Off Shore Tackle Podcast

We're catfishing this month on the Off Shore Tackle podcast! Matt "Cat Matt" Jones, talks to host Mike Avery about the status of catfishing, catfish tournaments and why he thinks his beloved "whisker fish" doesn't get enough credit from anglers. Matt then has great advice on how to catch giant catfish...including the use of Off Shore planer boards. Jones then has a preview of the big Catfish Conference coming up in February.

Nick DeShano of Off Shore joins us on this edition of the podcast. Nick talks about the past year, including some great crappie and catfish trips. He also previews the next "Off Shore Release".  That's the company's annual newspaper full of information about Off Shore products and how to use them.

This month we learn about the trophy fall walleye fishery on Lake Erie with Mark Brumbaugh. Mark is a successful tournament angler and long time Off Shore Pro Staffer who targets double digit fish in the western basin. Mark says when the water temperature drops, the big fish move in and become easy targets for crankbaits, snap weights and Off Shore boards.

Lance Valentine of Walleye 101 kicks off this month's podcast.  Lance talks about using Off Shore products to troll for walleye at high speed.  He says the new EZ Crankbait Tuner is critical at those higher speeds. Then catfish angler Matt "CatMatt" Jones joins the conversation.  Matt describes how Off Shore is making inroads into the world of catfishing.

Barb Cary of Wisconsin Women Fish joins us this month on the podcast. Barb talks about her efforts to get more women involved in fishing, and why some women have been reluctant in the past.  Barb outlines the projects she's working on, including a private facebook page and several fishing events for women.  She also talks about here relationship with Off Shore and how she uses those products to catch more walleye and salmon.

Lake Michigan charter captain and walleye tournament angler Russell Gahagan is featured this month on the podcast.  Russ checks in from the big ICAST show in Orlando where he saw some interesting new products. He also talks about the salmon and trout fishing out of his home port of Sheboygan, Wisconsin and has great advice for anglers travelling to new water.

A very interesting conversation this month with tournament angler and fisheries biologist Ali Shakoor.  Ali recently won the MWT tourney on Lake Erie and he says his background as a scientist helped him with that win.   Ali describes the importance of approaching fishing from a biological perspective, the migration patterns of great lakes walleye and how to use Off Shore products to catch more fish.

We’re talking with Lake Michigan Charter Captain Jeff Hedges of Trident Sportfishing this month on the podcast. Jeff fishes out of the port of Muskegon and has great advice on targeting salmon and trout using Off Shore boards.

Trolling expert Mark Romanack is the featured guest this month.  Mark talks about his long time relationship with Off Shore and why he uses their products.   Romanack also has advice on using the OR 38 boards for shallow water walleye, and choosing the right board for the species and conditions.   Mark also describes the various factors involved in trolling and why knowing the depth of your lures is critical to success.

Well known professional angler Tommy Skarlis is the guest this month on the podcast.   Tommy talks about the transition from walleye fishing to chasing crappies.  He says most good walleye anglers can be successful on those panfish.   Skarlis then describes some of the tactics he uses on crappies and walleye.   He also talks about his recovery from a terrible tree stand accident a couple of years ago.

From northern walleye to southern catfish this month on the Off Shore Tackle Podcast.   First, a newcomer to the world of professional walleye angling, Jake Trombley talks about how to use Off Shore guppies for precise depth control....and how speed can affect that depth.   Then catfishing veteran Lyle Stokes of CatfishWeekly.com describes how Off Shore planer boards have changed the way he targets giant river fish.

Off Shore’s Nick DeShano joins host Mike Avery this month on the podcast.   Nick talks about what it was like growing up in the fishing industry and how that shaped his role as leader of Off Shore today.   Nick also unveils their new crankbait tuning tool.  He says that device was two years in the making, and will help anglers get the best performance from their baits.

The Lake Erie walleye fishery is hot this time of year, and that’s the topic on this edition of the podcast.   Tournament angler and fishing educator Darrell Wood discusses the night bite for trophy walleye after dark.   Darrell has advice on using lights to keep track of your boards, the best trolling speed and hot bait colors.   He also suggests where trollers and shore anglers can find those big fall walleye.      

Trolling tips from one of the best anglers on the tournament trail this time on the Off Shore Tackle podcast.   Dean Arnoldussen recently won the Cabelas National Walleye Tour Championship by trolling Off Shore OR 12 boards.   He talks about how he won the tournament and the strategy involved in that win.   Dean then talks about why trolling can be so effective and has some great tips on how to be more productive while pulling boards.

We kick off this edition of the Off Shore Tackle podcast talking with Nick Deshano.  Nick is the guy in charge at Off Shore these days and he has some interesting thoughts on how the company brings new products to the market. Nick also has an update on the new OR 38 Awesome Crappie boards. Then, Lake Michigan salmon charter captain Dave James of Fish Hunter Charters joins host Mike Avery.  Dave fishes out of the northwest Michigan port of Frankfort. James says the salmon fishing is just starting to pick up there and they’re seeing some big kings.    

We start out talking about tournament fishing on Lake Erie with Ryan Wall. Ryan fished in the recent Cabelas National Team Championship and finished 28th out of 251 teams. He was 5th after day one and credits the new Off Shore Tattle Flags with his success in that event. Then, we head to Wisconsin and talk panfish with Troy Peterson of Mr. Bluegill Charters. Troy uses Off Shore Mini Boards to troll tube baits for big crappies and bluegills in shallow water.
