Another LUVCAST has just arrived, and its a good one! Italian duo extraordinaire Hard Ton have a reputation of being everything but ‘normal’. Our city Vienna is a breeding area for electronic music as it seems. Whilst the glorious days of most of the downbeat heroes are over, there's a large number of new talented acts entering the scene. However the next contributors to our Luvcast series aren't newcomers by any means. Constantin Zeileissen & Philipp Haffner have been producing highly acclaimed and complex electro and techno under the moniker Microthol since 2003. The last two years they focused entirely on the productions for Andy Butlers' project Hercules and Love Affair - which can be heard on the upcoming album "The Feast of the Broken Heart". Accompanying this fantastic project, the Duo also started producing uninhibited House tracks under the alias Ha-Ze Factory - their first track appearing on Andy Butlers DJ Kicks series. It`s LUVCAST time again! And for number 019 we've been offered a mix from Manuel Kim, who is one of the key figures in Munichs electronic music scene. He's running the prestigious GOMMA records, as well as Toy Tonics. (The latter is also home to a couple of his classic house edits.) Since 2012, Munichs nightlife has been pimped by Manuels bi-monthly nights at the wonderful club "Charlie". Among fellow DJs and musicians, Manuel Kim is known as an extremely versatile DJ and acribic record collector. Samanta Fox, the super-energetic duo from Berlin are providing the next installment of our LUVCAST mix series. As workhorses for the fabled “Salon zur wilden Renate”, Samanta Fox have recently released a great little EP on Renate Schallplatten alongside Snuff Crew´s “Snuffo” (including a brilliant Skatebard remix). The next LUVCAST comes from Elie Eidelman, a man who truly encompasses the facets of working as a modern DJ. He does the booking for some of the most popular underground acts, runs the awesome label JackOff Records, hosts the Sweat Lodge party series & online radio and he is a renowned DJ between Berlin, Jerusalem and NYC. The first LUVCAST in 2014 comes from viennese DJ Curly Sue. He is a close friend of Luv Shack Records and an occasional studio buddy of Lee Stevens. Together they revamped the old Police classic "Roxanne". Curly, whos real name is Michael Weiler, is one of the masterminds of the viennese crew 'Jugendstil' - a key collective of the Austrian underground music scene. Local Suicide consists of the eager and extremely busy couple Brax Moody and Vamparela. Bringing the best of both their musical and geographical heritage to the (turn-)table (Brax Moody is from Munich, Vamparela from Thessaloniki), the duo’s Berlin based Local Suicide project became a very successful radioshow, blog and platform for electronic music from all over the globe. However the heart of Local Suicide is their work as DJs, which had them tour the globe regularly for the last couple of years. LUVCAST 013 comes from two aspiring producers, passionate DJs and true vinyl lovers in the heart of Vienna. Sebastian Oberst and Andreas Buchner (in the simplest manner, calling themselves “Oberst & Buchner”) have become an integral part of the viennese music scene in a matter of three years, with being part of the popular ‘Klub Fraktal’ nights. And because they are nice & talented chaps, our friends at “Schönbrunner Perlen” have released the Oberst & Buchner debut EP ‘Today I Feel’ in 2012. Supporting local artists has become unpopular, which is plain wrong, and we don’t want to be part of this trend! So we were curious to see what they’d come up with when asked to do a mix for our Luvcast series, and we are not dissapointed! The brooding and constantly evolving city of Berlin is renowned for a high density and diversity of quality party locations. Every weekend, the great DJs gathering in this city would easily make a fine lineup for any electronic music festival. The mysterious duo Peak & Swift have put their very own stamp on this scene by helping the extravant “Salon zur wilden Renate” become one of the key locations of the city. Advocating a non minimalist approach in music, they opened doors to more creative and disco influenced nights for a city that has a heritage of dry techno. Their reputation as fine DJs is widely known, and most recently Peak & Swift launched Renates very own record label. In the year 1973, electronic instrument manufacturer Roland introduced the RE-201 tape delay. This machine became a highly sought after fx unit and is still playing a substancial role in many modern studios, however it is better known by the name ‘Space Echo’. When Luv Shack’s Lee Stevens sat down with fellow Austrian producer caTekk, and – after a long dialogue about music, life and reverb effects – they decided to team up in the studio, it came as no surprise they chose the name of this very effects unit for their project. Their focus is all on modern day dance music, yet ‘Space Echo’ share a very distinct passion for the different musical origins of what we now call house, dance or nu-disco which always comes into play in their productions. When producer Tomasz “Guiddo” Switala and vocalist Sebastian “Mavin” Magassouba join forces in the studio or on stage, they go by the witty yet catchy name Manhooker. They have a remarkable reputation in Europe’s music capital Berlin where they performed in the fabled Berghain and successively released on Ostgut Ton’s sublabel Unterton. Luv Shack Records aquired one of their tracks for upcoming release LUV011 and in the wake of this collaboration we asked the duo for a contribution to the Luvcast mix series. What we got is a wonderful ride through Manhooker`s musical cosmos: hip-house classics, disco/hip-hop jams, acid and deep house. The Luvcast series continues with a bit of a special mix. Radio Diffusion, a new addition to the Compost Records roster and one of the remixers of our latest release “Sum Of Luv”, have been prone to producing without genre boundaries since we first heard of them. And so it came as no surprise when they sent us this very diverse, two and a half (!!!) hour long mix. He is quite a legend in Viennas music scene and he has been hosting a weekly mix-show on austrias number one alternative Radio FM4 since 18 years.The London born DJ and self declared beer advocate (Beales: "the last track in this mix is dedicated to beer!") has been active in Viennas scene since 1991 and hence knows the people, the spots and vibe of the city. For our second Luvcast we’ve asked one of Vienna’s first Disco / Edits exports to grant us an insight into his current musical dwellings. His edits for the dutch Disco Devil imprint were highly sought after and got regular plays by heavy weights like Prins Thomas or Todd Terje.
