How Calculated Risks Expand Our Career Growth
15/08/2022 Duración: 11minIf calculated risks keep us growing, why do we stop? There are two contrasting ideas that many of us have about creativity. It’s that we want to stand out and share our work while at the same time we want to fit in. When we stand out, it means we’re not fitting in. We can’t have both. Human nature likes us to fit in, so it becomes very risky behavior to stand out even in a creative world. If we never make anything, if we make only what’s comfortable or we create something and then never share it, we’re hiding. We all do it. Creatives everywhere are nodding their heads. There is a sense of knowing this truth and a knowing that we need to put ourselves out there. We’re looking for career growth and creative growth to expand our lives and live better. Then again, it feels too risky. It’s not our calling to hide and leave our creative calling dormant. We’re meant to wake it up and nurture it. 03/08/2022 Duración: 01h13minIn this podcast, Marcus Buckingham takes on a journey through what makes the individual unique and why everyone should embrace their weirdness. Is work/life balance a myth?
18/07/2022 Duración: 12minIn this episode, I answer two popular questions. The first question I don't get asked enough, but I've certainly thought a lot about: how do balance career, exercise, and creative time. While this can be different for everyone, I share a few key aspects I've learned over the years including how I protect my self-care routine. Next, Dylan called in asking about how to manage two similar but different passions. We're all multi-hyphenates. Our passions have many layers and explorations. However, clients for one passion may not be the same for another. We get into how to manage it and at what point does it make sense to combine all your work in a single portfolio. I've been taking your questions on whatever is holding you back and getting in between your goals. It's part of an ongoing series I started on YouTube, called Daily Creative. If you want to submit a question, text me directly: 206-309-5177. --- Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive. CreativeLive is the world's largest hub for online creativ

How to Find a Mentor
20/06/2022 Duración: 23minEveryone wants a mentor, the wise little green creature who will teach us how to swing a lightsaber and use the Force. I was no exception when I started out in photography. No Artist Tolerates Reality
13/06/2022 Duración: 10minThe world would have you believe that creativity is an indulgence. “Get a real job” or “find something you’re good at” are a few common phrases that get thrown around. But so long as you do that, you’re on someone else's path. It isn't living your own life - it's following someone else's. Why spend your life that way when you could be seeing the world for what it really is? In today’s episode, we’ll explore what Friedrich Nietzsche meant by his words "No artist tolerates reality" and why it’s fodder for artists like you and me, even today. We’ll also dig into why: Creators cannot tolerate the “status quo.” Creativity is your birthright. Reality is malleable and different for everyone. Everything in this world was created by someone just like you. When you choose creativity, you distort reality, introducing a part of you into it to make a change in the lives of others. Establishing a creative practice is the only way to a creative life. Enjoy! --- Today's episode is brought to you by CreativeLive
