Christmas Movies! Christmas Movies! Christmas Movies! We list them all and discuss our holiday favorites.  Its a Mike and Mike episode.  We talk our favorite holiday movie traditions, and discuss the best films to watch this season.

S2E2 or #31 is all about vampires notably ones played by Brad Pitt, and Tom Cruise along with some others and what they do in movies and how to interview them... Obviously we are discussing What We Do In The Shadows and Interview With the Vampire.  We go deep into the genre and answer some age old questions. So leave your preconceived notions of vampires (and wooden stakes) at home.

We start Season 2 with a special episode recorded primarily from a golf course. What podcast would be complete without a little wind noise and a rain delay? We tee off on some of the obvious choices and forget that a ton of movies even exist.

32 years after the original, we get Vacation, a new road trip movie with Ed Helms as Rusty Griswold in the driver seat. We were skeptical for obvious reasons... And were pleasantly surprised in for not so obvious reasons.  We had mixed reactions to the movie.  But it gave us a ton to talk about... We can't help but to compare it to National Lampoon's Vacation from so many years before.  And we sort of think that was the point.  Enjoy as we drag Kevin Harvell into this one with us. We compare Chevy Chase to Ed Helms, Christina Applegate to Beverly D'Angelo and the kids to all the iterations of Rusty and Audrey.

Rags to Riches and the American Dream... or something close to it... we look at two films that have characters striving to make their lives better against considerable odds. Mike C and Mike L look at the struggles of Joy (played by Jennifer Lawrence) in David O Russell's 2015 drama, Joy.  Mike and Mike have slightly differing opinions on what makes the film okay but ultimately lacking... something.   By comparison, The Pursuit of Happyness, (2006) explored a similar story of life on the edge of poverty, and homelessness experienced by Chris Gardener and his son played by Will Smith and Jaden Smith to better effect. Both have their merits and we discuss.   annf3q2z

Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart team up to star in American Ultra the 2015 action comedy by director Nima Nourizadeh and writer Max Landis.  We compare this one to Eisenberg's work in the amazing zombie action spoof Zombieland (2009)! But did you know that Jesse Eisenberg has teamed up with Kristen Stewart before? We also discuss their work together in Adventureland (2009) with our guest Chris Hartman.  Enjoy it because we sure did!  Its a very rare triple feature episode!  Get ready to laugh and find a couple new movie to add to your Netflix queue.   

We discuss Captain America. Mostly Captain America: Civil War and Captain America: the Winter Soldier. But there is no getting around how awesome the Marvel Cinematic Universe or MCU has become.  And we pick sides! We are joined by Brian Jackson who brings some good insights on this one.  His audio starts to get funky toward the end of this one so we cut the episode short. We have only scratched the surface on Marvel Studios awesomeness...  

It may be #1977 for Dave B. from dvdinfatuation.com on his list of 2,500 movies to watch, but its our #25 episode! Did we finally realize that other people know more than we do? No. We will never admit to that. But we did bring in a big time movie buff to talk all about these two films.  The Walk (2015) Directed By: Robert Zemeckis & Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Charlotte Le Bon, Guillaume Baillargeon is the dramatization of the story of Phillippe Petit, the man who walked on a tight-rope between the two towers of the World Trade Center. Man on Wire is the the Academy Award-winning 2008 documentary of that same feat. We get into all sorts of stuff in this one.  At one point we all admit to the heights getting to us as we watched the movie.  Good thing Dave was there to add some value to this one.   Enjoy and then go check out Dave's website! http://www.dvdinfatuation.com/

It's the episode you've been waiting for...The Big Short and The Informant! w/ Mike Bell from Mike Bell and the Movies!  We get into some things in this episode... like Star Wars and bitcoins and music.  We also talk in length about The Big Short and how director Adam McKay walks us through complicated financial terminology and some how makes us laugh at a very recent period of economic collapse. Also keep listening all the way to end for a new track from Mike Bell and the Movies from their new album Room.  

We look at the work of Alejandro G. Iñárritu in his 2015 film The Revenant and the 2014 film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance).We discuss the visual masterpieces and the value of being nominated for awards. We are also joined by John Minardi on this one.  Acting and visuals are front and center in this discussion.  Leo DiCaprio will probably be mentioned.

It's a re-release and re-mixng of our 1st ever episode! We delves into the multifaceted Birdman starring Michael Keaton. As we stated originally "This film captures one’s imagination as an actor’s quest for redemption and respect pushes him to the limit" Only now it sounds really good.  Enjoy this and then listen to our episode on The Revenant.  They go together nicely!

Matthew Vaughn brings us two amazing films to talk about in Kingsman: The Secret Service starring Colin Firth, Taron Egerton, Samuel L. Jackson and X-Men: First Class starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence. So we watched them and discussed with Chris Hartman.  We get into the really important topics.  Maybe.

Love & Mercy tells of the mental struggles of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys as he deals with bouts of psychosis oppressive forces in his life and surrounding his music career in the 60's and continuing through the 80's. The Theory of Everything follows Stephen Hawking through his diagnosis of motor neurone disease, his career and how both affected his marriage with his wife Jane. These films are highlighted by outstanding performances by Paul Dano and Eddie Redmayne who won an Oscar for his performance. As these films deal with real people dealing with serious issues, we take more of a serious approach to our discussion.  We are lucky to be joined by Matt Nace once again, who as it turns out, is a bit of a Beach Boys expert.

It's Star Wars time!  We talk with 2 of our favorite guests Chris Hartman and Bradley Smith about all things relating to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.  We also talk about our favorite and not so favorite things about the other episodes in the Star Wars saga.  We also unveil our new theme music by The Recording Club.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael B. Jordan battle for cinematic boxing supremacy and the title of best boxing film of 2015 as Creed and Southpaw go toe to toe.Michael B. Jordan plays Adonis Johnson, the son of Apollo Creed. He's got a lot to prove, but is aided by Rocky Balboa in his corner.  Gyllenhaal plays boxer Billy Hope who loses everything and needs to fight to get it back.  We discuss all of this and more.    

With the additional insight of Matt Nace, we delve into David Lipsky’s exploratory sojourn with David Foster Wallace as he completes the book tour for Infinite Jest, comparing it to Cameron Crowe adventure in Almost Famous. Characters unite on a friendly professional level and then conflict on a personal one.
