In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason catch up in the midst of a busy summer.  Jason has been doing a speaking series on Romans at a Bible Camp, Brett attended the FLY Convention in Estes Park, CO, and Brian talks about the blessings and pains of moving from one church to another.

In this episode, Brian and Jason continue to muddle along without Brett.  Their discussion focuses on the role of doctrine and catechesis in forming people in the faith.  The basics of our faith work in much the way the ABC’s of language work.  We may no longer be singing the “alphabet song”, but we are still using letters each and every day, albeit in a more artful manner.  The same goes for the basics of our faith – we can never graduate from the Gospel, but we can move to a deeper understanding and appreciation of it.

In this episode, Brian and Jason demonstrate Brett’s vital importance to the podcast by recording an episode without him.  They discuss Jason’s recent Doctor of Ministry class at Concordia Seminary – St. Louis on Luther’s doctrine of the Two Kingdoms.  They also examine the vital importance of catechesis to Christian vocation and life in the two kingdoms.

In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason do a Bible study on Matthew 4:1-11 as they wrap up their discussion on the Sixth Commandment.  They look at the nature of temptation, and in discussing this passage, they point out that Jesus primarily serves as our substitute instead of merely our example.  In his temptation account, St. Matthew demonstrates how Jesus reverses the failures of Adam in the Garden of Eden.
