Episodios

  • Episode 24: Escape from L.A. (1996)

    13/11/2017 Duración: 01h28min

Snake is back! And so are we, with 1996’s Escape from L.A. It takes place in a world where a religious fundamentalist nutjob becomes dictator of America, and every moral infraction, right down to card playing, gets you booted out of the country, and the U.S. is about to get invaded by a coalition that includes the likes of Uganda and Cuba! If that run on sentence sounds good to you, you might just dig this movie. Also, we marvel at the size of Bruce Campbell’s forehead, Snake’s surfing ability, and just how cheap the CGI looks in this flick. Join us next time for Thankskilling 3!

  • Episode 23: Evil Dead II (1987)

    05/11/2017 Duración: 01h22min

JOOIIIIN USSS for our first ever review of a sequel, Evil Dead II! This one’s coming out post-Halloween, due to the Deadites possessing Audacity. What can we say about this one that hasn’t already been said? Probably not much, but we think we made a pretty fun episode anyway. Even if you haven’t seen it, you’ve probably seen this series referenced somewhere, whether it was the TV show Spaced or the Duke Nukem games. This one is a true no-holds-barred, adrenaline fueled thrill ride like no other! But be warned, this movie includes GRAPHIC hand holding! Also, how did Mack get into that yacht club? Why is Ash driving in the middle of the road? Why was the blood so fizzy? We attempt to answer those questions and more in this entry. Thanks for listening! Join us again next time 1996’s Escape from L.A.!

  • Pass the Peanuts 4: Mack and Sean Horror Talk

    28/10/2017 Duración: 01h07min

So getting a recording done for Evil Dead II continues to elude us (more on that later), but luckily we were able to get this Halloween time off-topic done. The conversation veers all over the place, but it starts with Mack’s rundown of the Halloween film series and Sean’s take on the newly-released Cult of Chucky. He also compares and contrasts the book and film versions of The Shining and we talk some horror video games. Mack delves into the Civil War book he’s reading (who cares), and then conversation veers everywhere from our college careers, politics, and even sports! It’s no Evil Dead II, but we hope you guys enjoy this one! Our Evil Dead II review should be here sometime soon.

  • Episode 22: Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

    20/10/2017 Duración: 01h35min

This Rocktober, join us for the episode so Beefy it took us a few months to create. We make our first venture into the '70s with Brian De Palma's Phantom of the Paradise. How Beefy is Beef? Does the Phantom ever go to the bathroom? Just how short was Napoleon? All that and more as we discuss Winnipeg's favorite cult classic. Join us next time for Evil Dead II! Correction: William Finley sings the song performed on piano towards the beginning of the film. Our bad, Winslow!

  • Episode 21: Escape from New York (1981)

    20/06/2017 Duración: 01h21min

Join us for episode 21, the beginning of our second season, as we'll be reviewing 1981's Escape from New York, directed by John Carpenter. Is Snake a bad enough dude to save the president? Will the Duke ever get the Brain he's looking for? Can dudes be cuddly? Tune in, find out. Join us next time for Escape from L.A.! Note: when we talk about Frank Doubleday, Romero, Ed and Evil Ed we're talking about the same guy. Same thing with Hauk, Lee Van Cleef and Angel Eyes.

  • Episode 20: Lizard Baby (2004)

    27/01/2017 Duración: 01h02min

This week's movie is 2004's Lizard Baby, the third installment in Hideshi Hino's Theater of Horror, the series that started it all. Sadly, Keith was not available for this edition so we were back to the two-man crew not seen since the days of World War Z! Lizard Baby is a Twilight Zone-style story of a man who seems to be the only one weirded out by his new son being some kind of reptile-or is it? The screenplay he's writing seems to be coming to life! We also discuss contemporary slang, what the vice-president might think of this unconventional family and tasteful lizard baby nudity. Join us next time for Escape from New York, which we'll be following up with its sequel, Escape from L.A.!

  • Episode 19: The Ref (1994)

    19/12/2016 Duración: 01h30min

Join us for our Mondo Cool Chrimbus Special, featuring Bryan, where we'll be reviewing 1994's The Ref, the movie where Denis Leary plays a “cat burglar” of a different kind who bites off more than he can chew. He's forced to deal with his hostages, the most annoying couple in Connecticut, played by Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis. The real pain begins when Spacey's mom shows up. We also discuss the intelligence of dogs, Malcolm in the Middle and what video game you should be able play as Denis Leary in. Merry Chrimbus and Happy Holidays! Join us next time for 2004's Lizard Baby. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 18: ThanksKilling (2009)

    29/11/2016 Duración: 49min

Join us for our (late as always) Thanksgiving spectacular in which we'll be reviewing 2009's ThanksKilling, a low budget movie about a talking turkey killing a bunch of walking stereotypes. It's actually not too bad, especially considering the budget. We also broke out an impromptu Quad City DJs medley, so that's worth the price of admission right there, not that there is one. Next time we'll be turning our attention towards Christmas with 1994's The Ref. Enjoy and thanks for listening!

  • Episode 17: Jason X (2001)

    15/11/2016 Duración: 01h17min

So here's another (very late) Halloween-themed episode in which we review 2001's Jason X, directed by James Isaac. We dip our toes in the waters of Crystal Lake (Crystal Lake Research Facility, that is) in our first attempt at an entry from the Friday the 13th series. The film gives us a fascinating look into the future, like how stupid everyone's apparently still going to be, how much of a freak the professors are and how little clothing you're required to wear on an interstellar field trip. Enjoy! Join us next time for ThanksKilling! Keith's spooktacular tune from the outro can be found here: https://soundcloud.com/mondo-nugget/biohazard-busters

  • Pass the Peanuts 3: The Safe Place Interview

    01/11/2016 Duración: 53min

On this edition of Pass the Peanuts we had the exciting opportunity to talk to Nick Hunt, the film maker striving to put Central Florida back on the horror map with his upcoming film Safe Place, currently in pre-production. Nick tells us how he plans on making a movie that's a game-changer in the horror genre. He also tells us how he got in touch with the legendary Lloyd Kauffman (who'll be in the film in a cameo role) and when he expects the film to be released and gives some great advice for the wannabe movie makers of the world. We also had a really fun conversation about horror movies in general and the Friday the 13th series in particular, along with the future of the Power Rangers and which movies are just too damn sick for comfort. We hope this talk will get you as excited for Safe Place as it did us! Enjoy. Check out Safe Place at these links; https://www.facebook.com/safeplacethemovie/ / http://m.imdb.com/title/tt5632104/ / https://twitter.com/safeplacefilm

  • Episode 16: The People Under the Stairs (1991)

    22/10/2016 Duración: 58min

Get ready to get SPOOKED STOOPID as we review 1991's The People Under the Stairs, directed by Wes Craven. It's the story of Ving Rhames enlisting the help of a 13 year old kid to rob some wealthy slum lords. What could go wrong? Just Everett McGill rocking a gimp suit and a shotgun and Wendy Robie throwing people into boiling water. And we haven't even gotten to the out of work grunge band that lives in the basement. All this and more in this week's entry! MONDO COOL MOVIE DUDES WILL RETURN in JASON X Check out Keith's track featured in the episode here: https://soundcloud.com/mondo-nugget/the-basement

  • Episode 15: Highlander (1986)

    02/10/2016 Duración: 01h08min

We finally return this week with 1986's Highlander, starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown and Sean Connery, not to mention a rockin soundtrack by Queen. In this time-jumping fantasy epic, we meet such characters as The Kurgan, a brutally insane ancient barbarian bent on decapitating our hero, that one detective from The Big Lebowski playing basically the same character, and the legends of '80s wrestling who are The Fabulous Freebirds. Find out who was nearly decapitated for real on set, and just how many sequels this movie spawned. We hope you enjoy!

  • Pass the Peanuts 2: MCMD Fall Preview

    11/08/2016 Duración: 54min

Despite the slight delay we hope you enjoy this off-topic omnibus episode. We do a little more digging into our dark pasts with Dragonball Evolution, Mack does his film festival round-up, Keith previews his video game still in development and expounds on his life as an amateur digital musician, and Sean previews his up-coming video game podcast currently in development, entitled The Good Soup Hotel. All that and more in another exciting(?) entry of PASS THE PEANUTS. Highlander review coming soon! Link to Keith's track used in our intro: https://soundcloud.com/mondo-nugget/mystic-future-alpha-formation-squad-delta-6

  • Episode 14: Dragonball Evolution (2009)

    25/07/2016 Duración: 01h33min

Today marks our show's six month anniversary, as well as our 14th movie review! We kick things up a notch with 2009's Dragonball Evolution. For the first time since World War Z, we wound up with an episode longer than the movie itself. We had a lot to say about this one, unfortunately for us, most of it negative. Oh well, we think you'll enjoy this one a lot. If Justin Chatwin, or any of his friends or relations happen to get an earful of this episode, we sincerely apologize. When that Dragon's rockin', you best come a-knockin'. Enjoy! MONDO COOL MOVIE DUDES WILL RETURN in HIGHLANDER

  • Epiosde 13: Deadpool (2016)

    13/07/2016 Duración: 01h28min

Join us for episode 13, 2016's Deadpool! One of the biggest surprise hits in recent memory, made with a modest budget, this became the highest grossing R-rated film of all time worldwide! Listen to find out why. The boys also talk UB40, what Deadpool does after hours with his tiny hand, and just who needs to READ A F*#KIN COMIC BOOK. We hope you all have as much fun listening as we did making this one! MONDO COOL MOVIE DUDES WILL RETURN in 2009's DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION.

  • Episode 12: Cocktail (1988)

    27/06/2016 Duración: 01h08min

Join us for this week's bizarre '80s artifact, 1988's Cocktail, directed by Roger Donaldson, starring Tom Cruise, Bryan Brown and Elisabeth Shue. It's a world where people drink Miller High Life and tomato juice for breakfast, where school's for fools, and a gentleman's bet can justify just about anything. Learn valuable life lessons, like how to cheap bar patrons out of their hard-earned dollars, find a rich wife, and stalk pregnant women! Oh, and how NOT to invest your money. All this and lots more cheesy, drunken goodness in our latest episode. MONDO COOL MOVIE DUDES WILL RETURN in DEADPOOL. Coming soon. Thanks for listening!

  • Pass the Peanuts 1: Mack and Sean Movie Talk

    18/06/2016 Duración: 50min

Have a surprise bonus episode! This one spent the past few months in the Mondo Vaults before it saw the light of day. It was recorded in between our two Dune recording sessions back in March. We talk about a lot of fun and strange movie theater experiences we've had in years past, as well as the future of Twin Peaks, how much of a dick Dave Mustaine is, and tons of other fun stuff! Keith wasn't able to make it out for this one due to illness but he was with us in spirit, as he composed the awesome opening music! For more sweet Keith-made tunes, go here: https://soundcloud.com/mondo-nugget Outro music by youtube genius FrankJavCee. Check him out here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAgoEUwn-LQy0fTyUxMngag Also here: https://soundcloud.com/frankjavcee Thanks for listening, as always! Epsiode 12, Cocktail, coming soon!

  • Episode 11: Guardians Of The Galaxy (2014)

    01/06/2016 Duración: 01h25min

This week we delve into 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt, among other repugnant aliens. We contemplate what would compel a man to listen to the same ten or twelve songs for 25 years, how bad sunburn would be under the light of two suns, and just how Black Metal Ronan the Barbarian is. Enjoy! Correction: at one point I referred to this movie as having come out in 2000...it didn't.

  • Episode 10: Dead Girl Walking (2004)

    11/05/2016 Duración: 41min

For this week's adventure, to celebrate our tenth episode, we return to the wacky world of Hideshi Hino's Theater of Horror to review 2004's Dead Girl Walking. What would you do if you were dead...but also not dead? Or your beloved family member was suffering from this problem, but also stinking up your house as a result? Those quandaries and more in this week's entry.

  • Episode 9: O Brother, Where art Thou? (2000)

    02/05/2016 Duración: 01h05min

Join us for episode 9 where we'll be reviewing the 2k Koen Bros. Klassic, O Brother, Where art Thou. This week's episode features our good friend Ben of youtube fame. Topics of discussion include soul selling, cow killing, and the supernatural powers of the visually impaired. "Sweet summer rain...like God's own mercy." Now that sounds almost as good as our latest episode. Check it out! Also, check out Ben's youtube channel, TheRiot Productions, at this link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAWg7Zggvk6oZV3KpV_sAmA Correction: Charles Durning DID NOT play the rich Lebowski in The Big Lebowski. That was David Huddleston. Sorry, Dave!
