Parenting Vs. Podcast

There comes a time in your life... In this episode we discussed what it's like to feel like you've made the wrong decision. We feel like our 30s have been self discovery, trying to discern what is worth dedicating our lives to. It's been a series of mistakes in parenting, in our careers, in our marriage. Now, we're trying to find out where to go. The journey isn't over, but this is us trying to talk through some of it. Enjoy!

We've all got our issues... We all experience privilege in our own way. We're trying to navigate how to have empathy for others, deal with the problems we have, and not minimize the problems of others. (Especially those who we perceive to have more "privilege" than we do.) And...raising three is hard (for us). But, raising four, even if it's just for a week, is harder. Enjoy!

Faith has been on our minds. We talk a lot about what bothers us, and faith has been high on that list. Not faith itself, but our own faith. We were brought up with a certain set of expectations, and we don't fit into those expectations at the moment. For most expectations, we don't care very much. But, faith is a big one. We want to live "right". We want to raise our kids in the "right" way. Inclusion and values are also important to us... So, we're kind of left out. We kind of talk about these feelings in this episode. We also sort of just drink beer and shoot the shit. Shoot shit with us! It's fun! (note: we pulled this episode originally, but decided to publish it anyway...)

Our thoughts differ when it comes to the thought of leaving our kids in the care of a robot. Robot is such a harsh term. AI seems nicer. Anyway, we discuss robot moms, Albuquerque, Lindsey and Ryan's Podcast about Albuquerque, and other things. Enjoy!

We traveled 4,248 km (2,639 mi). From ABQ to Denver to Salina to Vegas to Palm Springs to Laguna Beach to Palm Springs to Phoenix, and back to ABQ. It was a trip. We learned a lot about ourselves, our kids, the road, the cities. It was a blast, and this conversation is about that road trip. Enjoy!

We're planning a road trip through five western states--with our kids. There will be stressful moments. There will be beautiful moments. It's going to be an experience, and we're hoping it doesn't explode in our faces. Perhaps marriage is like this road trip.

Most of our episodes are all over the place, but this one takes the unicorn birthday cake. We're a hot mess of podcasters. I hope we not only make you feel awkward with our broadcasted bickering, but comfort you by letting you know it's okay to have tons of flaws.

So, math isn't our strong point. I think this is our 101st episode, but I don't want to check the math. We'll just say it IS our 101st episode. In this installment, we get deep into each other's thoughts, and what makes us tic.

We recently took a jet plane to Salt Lake City, then we got on a different plane that took us to Portland. In Portland, we met with friends and the Ocean. It was fun. This is about that experience. There is such a thing as an OVH. OVH is an acronym that means openly vulnerable husband. We talk about feelings and how men have them. And we talk about how we think we're going to deal with that... Our city needs change, and we get discouraged all the time... We want to balance anger with things that are going wrong with willingness to do something to change it. We don't want to give up, and we don't want to become complacent. We love our town... It is frustrating when you're the butt of a crime joke. Good things are happening, though. People aren't okay with the way things are going.

It's been a while since we've recorded anything. There was a lot to catch up on, so here it is. Life is busy...it just is. Seems like when you see someone, and you ask how they're doing, they almost always say "busy". We're all busy I guess. So, there's that. Busy. There's also real life. Marriage is hard. Parenting is hard. Life is hard. We talk about it all the time, but it's nice to know we're not alone. Enjoy!

We've recorded several minutes of podcast material, and several minutes of that is lost forever. The world is a better place because of it. A whirlwind of a weekend... Our emotions are shot. We feel joy and happiness, stress, and anxiety all at once. We'll record a podcast, then.

We're watching soccer. Kids are crazy.

We're all over the place on this one...but that's our baseline. The Franciscan hotel was an Albuquerque landmark. Built in the 1920s and demolished in the 1970s, it was a pueblo deco style hotel on 6th and Central in Albuquerque. We wished it was still here...but at least there's a nice parking lot in it's place. We talked about moving and taking the plunge, and hard decisions in life. We talked about faith, and living with doubt and questions. Accepting doubt. Giving up guilt. The usual. Enjoy! Visit the Albuquerque Historical Society's website...there's some cool stuff there.

Remember those choose your adventure books? I do because mine were all Christian choose your adventure books and they all gave you choices between reading your Bible or drinking a wine cooler. I always chose the wine cooler because secretly I wanted to be bad. We didn't talk about the books in this episode, but we did recently watch Bandersnatch on Netflix and we are choosing our adventure in reality as we speak.
