Michael Oldroyd - Comedy Podcast

Mike welcomes his friend Moises. They talk about what Moises means and then discuss the unique relationship and friendship they've had for years. If Wall-E from the Pixar movie was a human, he would be Moises. Moises is tech savvy, has out dated technology, and has a heart of gold. Mike's former boss/manager joins the show to discuss their business and personal relationship. John Freeman shares what an invaluable goof ball Mike was to manage. They talk about some of the things that made their business in healthcare successful and how they became such great friends. John also shares his history in speech/debate, the Tuskegee airman, Jackie Robinson, and his daughter, Jackie, who has special needs. He and his wife named her after Jackie Robinson because Jackie overcame all odds.

Mike welcomes his friend from TMZ and the Hollywood Improv, Mychael Anthony. They started together at the Funnybone comedy club in STL. Mychael shares stories about all the comedians he met through his experience at the Improv and the celebrities he met and interviewed while working at TMZ, including Dave Chappelle, Mark Wahlberg, Billy Bob Thornton, Kim Kardashian, and yes The MICHAEL JORDAN.

Former MIZZOU Basketball player and NYC comedian, Trevor Glassman, joins this week. Trevor and his buddy, Connor Kwiecien, have recently started Curbside Comedy, which is a traveling standup comedy show that performs in neighborhoods all over New Hampshire (all while using the best social distancing practices). Mike and Trevor talk about sports, comedy, and the infamous social scene at MIZZOU.

Mike talks about the latest in the world, including Kanye West running for president and The 4th of July this past weekend. He also mentions cancel culture, the Washington Redskins, the removal of statues, and some other things happening In the world right now.

Los Angeles comedian and longtime friend, John Grimes joins this week. John is an LA based stand-up comedian that went to high school with Mike. They reminisce on their time in class together (both always class clowns) and how their paths have led them to comedy. They also talk about Father's Day and Juneteenth.

Mike reads a journal entry from a relative that fought in WWII and was captured as a POW. It's John Oldroyd's recount of when his plane went down in 1944 & his parachute's descent to capture. Mike ties Nazis to racial discrimination that still exists to this day, and he covers the importance of ending racism across the board asap. He also discusses Flag Day, the conversations around statue removal, military base renaming, D-Day remembrance, Ulysses S. Grant, the current status of the world (the pandemic, the political landscape, and the civil unrest), ways that have helped him to achieve calmness during this time, ways to help others remotely during this time, as well as advice from his friend who is a nurse practitioner for good mental health.

Former star football player from the University of Missouri, Jimmy Jackson #1, joins this week. Jimmy is Mike's friend and former teammate. They talk about several topics, including what is happening in the world (regarding race relations) right now and what some of us can do to help. It's an insightful and uplifting episode. Young athletes can listen to it and be inspired to reach for greatness. Jimmy is a husband, father and coach in his hometown, Caruthersville, MO.
