Katy Bohinc is the author of Trinity Star Trinity, a long poem dedicated to the divine feminine recently released by the fine folks over at Scarlet Imprint. Katy is a poet and a data scientist; an avant garde publisher and a professional marketer; an activist, an astrologer and an innovator. She studied pure math and comparative literature, and in her words, she doesn't think these things are contradictory; she thinks it's the future. As for Trinity Star Trinity, this was written after experiences Katy had in the home of Greek lyrical poet Sappho and at the birthplace of the Greek Olympian Hera. The long poem takes shape as an ode or chant and is comprised of 27 poems of 27 words each, and speaks to Katy’s interest in astrology, triangles, and mathematics. Katy did join me via cell phone and the audio was a bit problematic at times, but the message comes through loud and clear in the end, so stick with it, because we did some thinking, we did some questioning, and we did a whole lot of laughing.   RESOURCES

Susie Chang and Mel Meleen are the wise and wonderful hosts of Fortune’s Wheelhouse, one of my favorite podcasts. Susie and Mel are in the midst of breaking down the esoteric correspondences of all 78 tarot cards found in the Rider-Waite-Smith deck, Aleister Crowley’s Thoth deck and Mel’s own Tabula Mundi deck. They’re looking at the cards and telling us how symbols from Hermeticism, kabbalah and astrology are incorporated into the cards, as well as other correspondences like the Golden Dawn color scales, musical notes and scents and smells. Some of you may remember Michael Joseph from episode 50, where he interpreted my natal chart for me, and then we rambled on about a few other things, including this idea that there may be more beyond what we consider the occult. Hey yo. So, I was recently back on the CWS podcast with my friends Grim and James. I was first on there last summer talking about this show, how it started, things like that. We’re starting 2018 with sort of a B-side to how we ended 2017. And the featured player here is Sarah McAllister, friend of the show and friend of mine actually. She’s the proprietor of Spirit Cell Tarot, where she offers, you guessed it, tarot readings. We talk a bit about that, a bit about Sarah’s trip to the last Burning Man event, and a bit about fish. We also chatted the day after I recorded my chat with our guest in episode 59, Gil Bates, so his work was top of mind as well, and that’s why I think of this one as a B-side of sorts. This time around we’re chatting with Gilbert Bates, author of a book I stumbled across earlier this year called “Love and the Three Levels of Consciousness”. Gil has authored a couple other books on similar themes, but this is the one that we focus on for the purpose of this conversation. The book is about the three levels of the brain, the brainstem, the limbic system and the prefrontal cortex, and how early emotional trauma is registered as a painful sensation in the lower brain, the brainstem. The need to repress this pain from conscious awareness leads to a disconnection between the cognitive brain and the social and emotional brain. Gil posits that the disconnection between these three distinct levels as well as the lack of essential input from the deeper sensing/feeling brain areas are the root cause of nearly all mental illness, and the reason why humans have so much trouble relating to each other in loving ways.
