Or more importantly, who do you think about? The child? The social worker? The birth parents? Foster parents? If it sounds complicated, you’re right.. So what can you do to help change a complicated situation into a blessing? On this week’s show, Kurt and Chad welcome three men who have been involved in the foster care process. They give a father’s perspective on how society (including those in the church) have either intentionally or unintentionally turned a blind eye toward a problem that effects so many.

This ministry grew out of the longings a handful of pastors and lay leaders to push beyond the limits that characterize men’s relationships in the church. Condemning thoughts, compulsive behavior, personal conflict, and spiritual despair can be struggles we all face on a regular basis. Is that just something we have to live with? Jaime’s dad, Steve, is the son of martyr Nate Saint, a jungle missionary pilot. Nate was speared to death in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador in 1956 by the Waodani tribe. Jaime grew up in a family that participated in mission ventures in Ecuador as well as in Mali, West Africa. After graduating from high school in 1995, Jaime moved with his family to the Amazon Rainforest to help the Waodani tribe learn to do for themselves what outsiders had been doing so that the Waodani could reach their own people with the Gospel.

What kinds of retreats have you been on? Corporate retreats? Staff Retreats? At the end of the weekend, were you so emotionally spent that you needed a “retreat from the retreat”? On this weeks show, spiritual director Tim Reist joins Kurt and Chad to talk about the what, why and how of retreats. Tim points out that we, as spiritual beings, need to have aspects of retreat in our life - individually and with other people.

When you hear the word “sabbath”, what do you think of? A day of full of rules about what you can and cannot do, or is it a day of things you get to do? Could it be that when we do less we are actually able to do more? On this week’s show, Chad and Kurt welcome Mike Amos and Ross Knecht to discuss what God intended for Sabbath. In addition, the guys talk about the ancient practice of Lectio Divina (“Divine Reading” in Latin). Lectio Divina teaches that reading and reflecting on smaller portions of scripture can reap big benefits for our souls, and for those around us. Observing the Sabbath, Lectio Divina, and much more will be covered at the Soul Transformation retreats put on by Further Still Ministries (beginning again) in January 2019.

“We all have an incurable disease - it’s death.” .001% That’s the percent of people in America diagnosed with the disease Scleroderma. It’s a disease that thickens a person’s skin and organs, shutting down the organs of the body and causing up to 40 other diseases. It is, in reality, a death sentence. On this week’s show, Tom Wimsatt talks about the day he was diagnosed with the disease that gave him about 8 years to live. He’s 4 years into that 8 year journey, and he says it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to him! The physical and spiritual journey that he has been on is one he never could have imagined.

John Jordan is the guest on this week’s show. He tells Kurt and Chad about his most exciting hunting trip ever - a grizzly bear hunt in a very remote part of Alaska. What John didn’t realize was that while he was hunting a trophy grizzly, God was hunting him. God’s love and blunt honesty forced him to finally confront his alcoholism, and get the help he needed. It’s a great story of hope and redemption.

On this week’s show, college professor and author Dr Eric Schansberg talks to Chad and Kurt about Genesis chapter 3. Chapter 3 tells the story of the temptation in the Garden of Eden - Satan injects doubt, contradicts God, and lies. He spent almost half of his life behind bars. Darrell talks about his journey from convicted felon to free man, a freedom he experienced even while still in jail. But his journey to freedom had some twists and turns. God’s plans and timing were not the same as Darrell’s, and it couldn’t have turned out any better.
