Answer: Trees On this week’s show, author Matthew Sleeth MD (MatthewSleethMD.com) talks about his new book “Reforesting Faith - what trees teach us about the nature and love of God.” Matthew reminds us that the tree is THE major metaphor in the Bible. Every main character and event in the Bible is associated with or linked to a tree. Yet over the years, trees have been eradicated from the scriptures by theologians. Why? Matthew gives us a unique and powerful perspective on something that God loves very dearly. In 1988 the Kentucky deer herds had grown beyond carrying capacity in some areas and biologists were encouraging additional doe harvest. This led to discussions between a few avid hunters who wanted to oblige wildlife management but had concerns about what to do with extra venison that they didn't have room to store or would exceed what their small families could consume. Sharing nature's bounty with those less fortunate seemed a natural choice and after a bit of research they discovered that donating meat to the needy was the answer. That fall Hunters for the Hungry was born as hunters joined with processors and food banks to supply donated meat to the needy. On this weeks show, Kurt and Chad talk with Jaime Saint. Jaime’s dad, Steve, is the son of martyr Nate Saint, a jungle missionary pilot. Nate was speared to death in the Amazon Rainforest of Ecuador in 1956 by the Waodani tribe. Jaime grew up in a family that participated in mission ventures in Ecuador as well as in Mali, West Africa. After graduating from high school in 1995, Jaime moved with his family to the Amazon Rainforest to help the Waodani tribe learn to do for themselves what outsiders had been doing so that the Waodani could reach their own people with the Gospel. Jamie talks about his surrendering to God to “write my story and show me enough vision to be obedient”, and that allowing God to write your story is not a sacrifice, when we know the character and the goodness of the author.
