For October 2012, the horror film, Sinister, was released to cinemas throughout the US. The movie was fairly well received by critics but made its mark on audiences who came out in large numbers making it as successful financially as Insidious and Paranormal Activity. When folks in the United States think of the CW network, they think of shows focusing on teenage drama and low brow humor. But in 2005, an idea was constructed about two young men and their search for their father. The show, Supernatural, was based on the concepts of other genre series of the past including The X Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel. The show focuses on Dean and Sam Winchester, two twenty-something's, who were brought up knowing that monsters are in fact very real. Their father felt it was his mission to hunt these monsters after the murder of his wife by a demon. Dean, the older, jumps aboard and takes up the family business while Sam, the younger, wants a more normal life. Another October and that brings about the Rock and Shock convention, a combo music and horror convention in Worcester, Massachusetts where attendees can come to see some of their favorite horror icons which this year included such stars as Danny Trejo, Michael Berryman, and Sid Haig. Also Hellraiser's Doug Bradley, author Jack Ketchum, and director Adam Green were their promoting their works. Dark Discussions was once again able to attend the convention and meet a bunch of great folks both famous and up-and-coming. The introduction of the zombie apocalypse boardgame Zpocalypse made an appearance. The new slasher Blood Was Everywhere debuted for convention goers. On April 26th, 1986, near Pripyat, Ukraine, a human error occurred which caused the Chernobyl nuclear power plant #4 to explode and release radiation into the atmosphere. At the time it was classified as the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history. The area was afterwards considered uninhabitable. Today, years later, nature has reclaimed the area where plants and animals now live as if it were the wilderness.
