First Martyrs of Rome Hello St. Mary Magdalene,  Did you know that in the year 64 AD the emperor Nero set fire to the city of Rome and then blamed it on the Christians? His actions resulted in a horrible persecution in the city of Rome that killed thousands of Christians including St. Peter! Today the Church remembers these brave men and women who gave their lives in witness to Christ!
