Second Place is the First Loser
26/05/2021 Duración: 48minParis Saint-Germain's 2020-21 season came to an anti-climatic end with only one trophy to show for its efforts. Now that the dust has settled, it's time to figure out what went wrong and how to improve for next season. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Cosé Espinosa for a one-on-one chat about PSG's campaign in which they finished runners-up to Lille OSC in Ligue 1 and fell short once again of their UEFA Champions League dreams. Up first, it's all about Ligue 1. We look back at the season and try to figure out where things went wrong and whether the managerial change had anything to do with the inconsistent play we saw from the squad this season. With Lille winning the title, many expect the club to sell its best players. We discuss whether that's the best strategy or would Lille and French football be better served if they kept their squad together and attempted to make a run at the knockout stage of the Champions League. Looking ahead to next season, we assess how long Mauricio Pochettino will h

Searching for Answers After Manchester City Dismantling
07/05/2021 Duración: 48minParis Saint-Germain was unsuccessful in keeping a club that didn't even want to be in the UEFA Champions League from reaching the final and they only have themselves to blame. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Cose Espinosa and Carl-Oscar Källström to discuss PSG's 2-0 defeat (4-1 on aggregate) to Manchester City in the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. After an impressive run in the tournament, defeating FC Barcelona and FC Bayern Munich in the knockout stage, PSG's fizzled out like a defective firecracker against the Premier League leaders. We discuss what happened and perhaps more importantly, who is to blame. In the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, Mauro Icardi was called upon to start alongside Neymar Jr. and Angel Di Maria, but the former Inter Milan striker struggled mightily and was subbed off shortly after half-time in favor of Moise Kean. Is Icardi such a poor fit that he should be sold this summer or can PSG build around him? Kylian Mbappé was left on the bench and didn't play a

PSG Gift Manchester City Advantage in Champions League Semi-Final
29/04/2021 Duración: 50minParis Saint-Germain picked the worst time of the season to revert back to their old ways and now, they have an uphill battle in their quest for UEFA Champions League glory. On this episode of PSG Talking, I’m joined by Matt Gooding and Guillaume Delaporte to break down PSG’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the semi-final of the Champions League. The match was a tale of two halves, but we try to start with the positives. In the first 45 minutes, PSG was able to score a goal through a Marquinhos header and Angel Di Maria skipped around defenders with ease. Truth be told, PSG should have probably scored two goals as Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappé both had excellent opportunities, but they were chances that would go unfulfilled. It doesn’t take us long to get to the negatives of this match for PSG. In the entire second half, PSG struggled to move the ball out of their own end and City’s pressing created chance after chance. Even with PSG causing their own problems, City still couldn’t score.

Super League is the Worst Good Idea in Sports History
24/04/2021 Duración: 51minThis week might have been the most chaotic since news broke in 2017 that Neymar Jr. was leaving FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by Matt Gooding and Marc Damon to discuss the rise and fall of the European Super League and look ahead to PSG's upcoming UEFA Champions League tie against Manchester City. We begin the show with the Super League and the owners of the 12 clubs who decided to break off and start their own European competition before realizing fans would be upset and backed out. With many of the teams in dire financial situations, should fans feel some level of sympathy or does it simply come down to poor money management? With the Super League's website still live as of the publication of this podcast, we wonder whether or not the league is truly dead or if it will be revived at some point. Can an American-style competition ever truly work in European football? Next, we look ahead to the match against Manchester City at the Parc des Princes and give our

How Paris Saint-Germain Cracked the Bayern Munich Code
15/04/2021 Duración: 01h51sParis Saint-Germain lost the battle against FC Bayern Munich, but they won the war and will https://www.si.com/soccer/2021/04/13/psg-bayern-munich-champions-league-video-mbappe-neymar (advance to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League). On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by https://twitter.com/BamaJ13 (James Teague), https://twitter.com/its_jcj (JC), and https://twitter.com/COKllstrm (Carl-Oscar Källström) (albeit a little late), to break down PSG's 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes that was ultimately just enough to see Les Parisiens through to the next round via the away goal rule. Up first, I ask the panel if the best team advanced. So much was made of Bayern's performance in the first leg and how statistically, they outplayed PSG, but at the end of the day, it was Mauricio Pochettino's squad that scored the goals needed while the Germans wasted chance after chance. The opening 45 minutes for PSG was especially thrilling. Neymar Jr. was sensational and reminded everyone why

Bayern Munich Was Arrogant Against Paris Saint-Germain
09/04/2021 Duración: 54minIt's been an up-and-down season for Paris Saint-Germain but when the bright lights of the UEFA Champions League are on, they've delivered more often than not. On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by https://twitter.com/ofthedoor1 (Guillaume Delaporte) and https://twitter.com/COKllstrm (Carl-Oscar Källström) to break down PSG's surprising https://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/match/2029488--bayern-vs-paris/ (3-2 victory over Bayern Munich) in the quarter-final of the Champions League. We begin the show with our overall thoughts on the result. Most PSG Talk contributors were cautiously optimistic about PSG's chances but scoring three away goals against arguably the best team in Europe was unexpected. Statistically, Bayern dominated PSG everywhere except for goals scored, and the reason why could be blamed on their arrogance in thinking they could get away with a high defensive line like they did in last season's Champions League final. This time, Kylian Mbappé was able to exploit the high line to the h

We're Feeling Something, Not Sure What It Is
25/03/2021 Duración: 57minThe international break is underway but there is still plenty to discuss when it comes to Paris Saint-Germain. On the latest PSG Talking, I'm joined by https://twitter.com/psgtourist (Matt), https://twitter.com/cosesinho (Cose), and https://twitter.com/Ofthedoor1 (Guillaume) to evaluate the state of the club at a pivotal point in the season. We begin the show with a recap of PSG's 4-2 win over Olympique Lyonnais that saw Les Parisiens move to the top of the Ligue 1 table. Has PSG become a team that performs at its best when the pressure is at its highest? Also, we analyze what Mauricio Pochettino has done tactically to get https://psgtalk.com/2021/03/video-mbappe-scores-the-opener-against-lyon-for-19th-ligue-1-goal-of-the-season/ (the most out of Kylian Mbappé). Is being the underdog actually a good thing for PSG? We conclude the show by discuss

Navas Denies Barcelona Remontada Sequel
11/03/2021 Duración: 58minWhew! It was downright painful to watch but Paris Saint-Germain are through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after a 1-1 draw against FC Barcelona (5-2 on aggregate). On the latest episode of PSG Talking, I'm thrilled to be joined by https://twitter.com/its_jcj (James) and https://twitter.com/COKllstrm (Carl-Oscar), two contributors we haven't had on the show in a while but are passionate PSG supporters who know their stuff. We begin with our overall thoughts on a match that most supporters would call disappointing. Sure, PSG drew and advanced to the next round over their European rivals, but Barcelona's dominating performance definitely puts manager, Mauricio Pochettino, under the microscope (especially after the decision to start Julian Draxler). Miraculously, PSG did score first https://psgtalk.com/2021/03/video-mbappe-calmly-scores-a-penalty-goal-to-give-psg-a-dominating-5-1-champions-league-tie-lead-over-barcelona/ (via a Kylian Mbappé penalty) in the first half and we debate whether th

Leipzig Loss, Tuchel in Trouble, and Elevator Error Traps PSG Players

On this episode of PSG Talking, I'm joined by James, Cose, and Guillaume to discuss PSG's two most recent results and we also look ahead to PSG's upcoming UEFA Champions League match against Istanbul Başakşehir. The show begins with a conversation about PSG's frustrating 2-1 loss to Manchester United in the first match of the Champions League group stage. The squad looked tired and devoid of ideas offensively even with Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr. on the pitch together. We discuss whether the blame rests on Thomas Tuchel's shoulders and whether his days could be numbered as manager. PSG rebounded from that defeat to United with a 4-0 win over Dijon FCO—the last place team in Ligue 1. Tuchel was forced to rotate his squ
