In his baptism, Jesus took one of three steps down (incarnation, baptism, and crucifixion) in preparation for two big steps up (resurrection and ascension).

Baptism represents a total commitment––putting your whole self in.

Jesus received the blessing of Spirit and word while at prayer after his baptism, modeling for us that prayer is one of God's vehicles for blessing.

Just as it was important to Jesus for John the Baptist to be faithful to his calling, so it is also important to Jesus that we be faithful to ours.

Christ makes himself known to us through the scriptures and the breaking of bread.

Just as Jesus said to those first disciples, "So I send you," so also he says to us, "So I send you!" (John 20:21)
