Speechwriters & Business Communicators Conference 2014, Thursday, 3 April 2014, Oxford. Caroline’s role as Chief of Staff to Deloitte’s global Chairman, Steve Almond, involves preparing speeches, presentations and detailed research briefings on a wide variety of subjects encompassing sport to economics to world politics, and just about everything in between. Prior to taking on this role, Caroline was Chief of Staff and speechwriter to Deloitte’s former CEO and global Chairman, John Connolly. She also writes speeches & articles for Deloitte’s current CEO, David Sproul. Caroline has lectured on several prestigious degree courses, including City University’s BA Journalism, and has an MA in US Studies. She will be speaking about the challenges of making global accountancy a compelling subject.

Speechwriters & Business Communicators Conference 2014, Thursday, 3 April 2014, Oxford. Jens is professor of rhetoric and visual communication at University of Bergen (Norway). He has written extensively about rhetoric, speech making, speech writing and powerpoint-presentations. He is president of the Rhetoric Society of Europe and co-founder and longtime chief editor of the research journal Rhetorica Scandinavia. For more than 15 years Kjeldsen has done speech writing courses and rhetorical consultant work for CEOs, political parties, and for most of the Norwegian ministries, including Ministry of Trade and Industry and The Office of the Prime Minister. Jens will be asking what's the point of speaking today, in the age of internet, social media, interviews and a constant shrinking of audience attention span? He will encourage speechwriters to reflect on the fundamentals of what they do: What's the point of speeches - and speechwriting?

Former speechwriter for Lord Ashdown and author of the definitive work on preparing speeches, Lend Me Your Ears, Max Atkinson pioneered academic research into effective political speechwriting. He was formerly a Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford and has held visiting professorships at the Henley Management College and other universities in Europe and the USA. He has estimated that poor PowerPoint presentations cost the UK £7.8 billion a year.

A controversial talk by Christian Nicholas Eversbusch Christian holds a MA in Rhetoric and German from The University of Copenhagen and works as a speechwriter at Rhetor, Copenhagen, DK, where he also teaches speechwriting to public servants, government officials and many others. His presentation is titled: Hitler's Rhetoric - pure evil or cunning craftsmanship?

Chris Witt is a speech consultant and coach based in San Diego, California. He has more than 25 years of professional speaking experience, working primarily with leaders – presidents, CEOs, and senior-level executives – who want to influence and inspire their audiences. He is the author of the international bestseller: Real Leaders Don't Do PowerPoint.

Chris West’s award-winning copywriting career spans Saatchi’s to Mother, and he is one of the people claiming to have written the line “You never actually own a Patek Phillipe. You merely look after it for the next generation.” His company, Verbal Identity, creates language which creates value for his clients and uses Text Analytics for Marketing to discover unknown themes in consumer conversations. Chris also writes for the Sunday Times and wrote the Best Film at Barcelona Film Festival.

Her breakout session will be titled, Why Bother If No One's Going To Read It?' - The truth behind annual reports - Why they really are worth the money you spend on them.
