Kay King can be reached via email at kking@namimn.org or by phone at 651-645-2948. “Gray Matters” is a series of five educational programs available for people who work with older adults. Targeted audiences could include senior workers in assisted living, long-term care facilities, adult day programs, rehab facilities, senior centers and senior housing. Pastoral care, health clinic staff, parish nurses, case managers, Meals on Wheels volunteers, hospice staff and volunteer befrienders are also potential audiences. Gray Matters: Depression is a good first choice for programming if the audience has just beginning knowledge about older adults and mental illness.     Concerned family members, advocates and people living with a mental illness from Baxter to Winona came together on March 16, 2017 for Mental Health Day at the Capitol to share their story with their legislators. This diverse group talked about the need for more school-linked mental health programs, vital first episode psychosis treatment, urgent reforms for the use of solitary confinement in Minnesota prisons and more. “Today is a reminder that there’s no longer a debate as to whether or not Minnesota needs to do more for the individuals living with mental illness and their families,” said Sue Abderholden, executive director of NAMI Minnesota. “The entire mental health community made it loud and clear that our mental health system is still under construction and needs funding.
