She gets jumped by Molly, who gets jumped by Morgan, who then is forced by Mouse to hold his fire because Mouse has Lucio by the throat. Eesh. I like it because she looks like a teenager, and isn't being overtly sexualized, which is more than I can say for a lot of the artwork out there. Oof. It's a MESS on these internet streets. In these chapters, Harry, Molly, and Morgan (plus Mouse) cross into the NeverNever and Harry finds out that Morgan is hidden by faerie magic. Turns out that the Order Of The Silver Oak (or whatever it's called) pin granted him a boon same as Harry, only Morgan didn't figure out about the locator spell attached to it. So they toss it, and head back to Harry's place. What ensues is a confrontation with a PI and then a lawyer, which leads Harry into a soulgaze...and he finds out that there is White Court involvement. And he's pissed. Thanks for listening! Before that, however, we have Harry meeting Peabody to get the folder on Morgan's case, and refusing to sign for it. RoShawn is pretty suspicious about why Peabody is being so dense about the plausible deniability aspect, and she feels like maybe Peabody wants Harry to leave some sort of paper trail. In short, she doesn't like Peabody.RoShawn does get a little distracted by the disappearance of Thomas, though. She doesn't think it has anything to do with the Suits, and she's worried about it. Hello, everyone! I'm sorry about the odd cropped nature of this image (which is from Dog Men, one of the Dresden graphic novels), but there are hardly any illustrations I can find of Listens To Wind or The Merlin, and honestly I just couldn't find much in the way of images for this section! These chapters are when Harry gets to talk to a few members of the Senior Council one-on-one, and he's maybe not as cautious as he should be. First off is Ebenezer, who is able to put it together fairly quickly that Morgan is holed up at Harry's place. Then there's Listens To Wind, who is not very receptive to Harry's disdain for politics, and finally there's the Merlin, who accepts Harry's help with some pretty steep conditions. And then, of course, there's this little dude Peabody that always seems to be around, and RoShawn is suspicious. I was, too. I guess we'll see! Even Harry is a little taken off-guard for a moment. But her recovers. And then she threatens Justine. When Harry leaves Zero, he runs into Anastasia Lucio, who has been tailing him in an effort to see whether he's a danger regarding the Council's search for Morgan. Harry is pained that he can't tell her the truth of what's going on, but he can't trust her to understand his motivations...and he's beginning to have doubts about Morgan's motivations, too. It's time for us to get into the next book, my pretties! FINALLY! I'm so excited! This one wastes no time in dropping a pretty huge problem into our fucking laps right the fuck away. It's really funny too because the only illustration that I could find of Morgan (that I thought was good, anyway) is from Dead Beat and involves him screaming in Harry's face with a sword at Harry's throat, so the fact that he comes to Harry for help is well documented as an anomaly even among illustrators. Then, there's something else that gets thrown into the mix rather abruptly. Harry doesn't know what the hell it is, but something is following him down the streets of Chicago, and it's so unbelievably foul that it literally sends him into a sort of seizure. By the time we wrap up on chapter 4, Harry is still writhing in pain on the sidewalk, attempting to curl into the fetal position, and accidentally biting his tongue. This episode, RoShawn and I are covering the last of the stories before Turn Coat begins, from Side Jobs and Brief Cases, and as far as I'm concerned they vary wildly in terms of quality. 'Last Call' feels, as RoShawn puts it, like a step backward in terms of Butcher's abilities as a writer, and it doesn't really honor Karrin's character the way she deserves. 'AAAA Wizardry', on the other hand, is a really nice glimpse into how Harry has grown as a person due to his own experiences, and due to his practice from teaching. First off, there's been a change of plans. I say at the end of this episode that there will be an episode on Christmas week, but I've decided (after a harrowing week) to take 2 weeks off instead of 1, so there will be no new episodes until the new year! Sorry for the gap, but also not sorry as I will hopefully avoid a nervous breakdown this way. This episode, we're covering two stories from two different collections, and these stories have very different vibes to them. The Warrior is, as RoShawn says, much more in the style of the main series: harrowing, high-tension, and rather serious. The whole plan the Denarians had come up with was predicated on him losing his temper, lashing out, and being impulsive, and for once he doesn't live up to those expectations. There's other stuff going on here, too, that has nothing to do with rescuing Ivy. First of all, there's the fact that this island feels so familiar to Harry that he's literally able to predict how many steps there are on the staircase leading to the building where they're holding Ivy. He knows where the potholes are. He knows everything about the place, but has no idea why. Then, of course, there's the injury sustained by Michael Carpenter.
