Grindbin Podcast - Grindhouse And Exploitation Films

One of the greatest exploitation movies ever made makes it's way to the Grindbin. The Cannon Group (Kinjite, Last American Virgin) brings the art of Ninjitsu to American audiences with a movie that was much more successful than it had any right to be. Franco Nero (dubbed and completely miscast) stars along martial arts legend Shô Kosugi and Christopher George (with a scene stealing role) in of the best bad movies ever made. 

The boys are back to talk about a film from infamous grindhouse director Ruggero Deodato (Cannibal Holocaust). Atlantis rises up from the ocean and it's up to two random guys to do... something about it. A complete mess of a movie but a fun ride regardless, The Raiders of Atlantis is an exploitation classic.

The boys are joined by Spencer from the High and Low Podcast to talk about one of the most controversial movies of all time, Ralph Bakshi's Coonskin. Protested, pulled from the theaters, and causing national outrage, Coonskin is a unique movie that is certain to offend almost anyone who watches it. Bakshi (most well known for Fritz the Cat and Heavy Traffic) takes aim at institutional racism in America and organized crime. This is a little bit of a different episode for us but we hope your guys enjoy it. 

Grindbin All-Star Claudia Jennings (Gator Bait) returns to the bin in an early 70's Roger Corman flick about the world of professional roller derby. Michael Tanner (guest from The Thing With The Two Heads) joins Hughes and Mike to discuss this cult classic.

The boys are back to discuss a musical that was never officially released in the USA. Featuring Pia Zadora, Grindbin All-Star Ruth Gordon, Jermaine Jackson and a few very special guests! This is a Grindbin you definitely don't want to miss.

The boys welcome Roger Corman back into the Grindbin with one of his directing efforts, 1959's A Bucket of Blood. The oldest movie we've covered on the show and a real hidden gem in Corman's filmography, A Bucket of Blood follows the exploits of a simple minded busboy as he tries to become an artist and fit in with the beatnik crowd at the coffee shop he works at. Filmed in only 5 days and with a shoestring budget, this is a film that proves the talent in front and behind the camera doesn't always need a large budget to produce a enjoyable film.

The boys take a trip down to Brazil for their first adventure into the cannibal sub-genre of exploitation film. Marketed as "Cannibal Ferox 2" in the UK despite having literally nothing to do with the first movie, Massacre in Dinosaur Valley is an exercise in the absurd. Rivaling Raw Force in it's random dubbing and nonsensical plot, Dinosaur Valley is an incredibly enjoyable bad movie that is a true hidden gem in the exploitation catalog.

The guys lock themselves into the drive-in for their first expedition into the Ozploitation genre of films. From acclaimed Australian director Brian Trenchard-Smith (Turkey Shoot, BMX Bandits, and a few of Leprechaun movies) comes Dead End Drive-In, a movie about a post-apocalyptic Australia where the government comes up with creative ways to deal with the unemployed. What seems like an episode of the Twilight Zone quickly devolves into something... well we don't really know what to make of it actually.

Summer Sequel month comes to a close with possibly the most depraved movie of all time; Screwballs 2: Loose Screws. A movie so vile it could be tried for sex crimes, Loose Screws takes the formula for a teen sex comedy and turns it up to 11. Four guys who've repeated the 12th grade a number of times are finally expelled and sent to an academy for idiots; where they just commit more sex crimes (and this time on the freshman class). This is a true Grindbin movie and it's a fitting way to end a month that has become quite the disaster in the annals of Grindbin history. 

Summer Sequel Month continues on the Grindbin with a listener request from our great friend and sponsor of the show: Shawn Thompson from LooseRounds.com. House 2 is a sequel that has almost nothing to do with the first one (that seems to be a running theme this month). When a married couple inherits a Nickelodeon game show of a house from their dead relatives they find it actually contains a portal to another dimension filled with dinosaurs and reject muppet creatures. Summer Sequel month continues with Rudy Ray Moore's followup to Dolemite (Episode 21 of the Grindbin). A movie that's less a sequel and more a re-imagining of the first movie. Dolemite brings down the Mob and a group of racist cops while providing plenty of patented Dolemite one-liners along the way. Human Tornado is an amazing movie and a worthy follow-up to the classic Dolemite. 

Welcome to Part 1 of the Grindbin's Summer Sequel Month. This week we are covering Surf 2, a movie that isn't actually a sequel. One of the worst films of all time and a movie that was highly requested from multiple Grindbin listeners, Surf 2 was an extremely painful experience... Thanks guys. 

On this episode we discuss one of the greatest cheap action movies we've ever seen. This movie has everything you could ever want: catchphrases, guns, angry police chiefs, one-liners, explosions, Gary Busey playing a saxophone on the beach; you simply can't ask for more.

The boys are back to discuss a movie Hughes forced everyone to watch but he's never seen himself. Mugsy's Girls (also called Delta Pi) was billed as the "female Animal House" but that is not even close to being true. A star studded episode for sure as Oscar Winner Ruth Gordon makes an appearance in one of her last film roles, Laura Branigangoes from singing to attempting to act, and even Bob Hope stops by to say hi to the guys during the recording. A movie that is so bad it might rival Lunch Wagon in pure Grindbin hatred. 

The episode that literally sent us to Hell and back trying to record it is finally here! A group of Las Vegas showgirls are hired to kill random Arabs in an attempt to save an ambassador's son. Hell Squad is a movie filled with bathtubs, bad foreign accents, terrible sets, and everything else you could ever want from an exploitation movie. This is a rate/review request from friend of the show Randy. 

Motorcycles, graveyards, toads, deals with the devil, suicide, the living dead, and more! The boys take on a real classic exploitation film from the UK, 1973's Psychomania. When Tom unlocks the secrets to immortality he convinces his friends to kill themselves so they can come back and spend eternity messing with old people around their local town. If it wasn't for that blasted devil and his legally binding lease agreements they might have gotten away with it too! 

The boys are joined by special guest Randal Silvey from the Grawlix Podcast to discuss a movie that contains some of the most shocking moments from Charles Bronson's 1980's filmography. Not only does Bronson use his hands in creative ways, he also has a best friend... who's a Dolphin. There is a reason this is one of the "forgotten" Bronson movies.
