    It's claimed live stream cameras are needed in Clare's abattoirs in order to ensure adherence to animal welfare standards. A proposal calling for the installation of cameras at slaughterhouses has got the backing of the local authority. Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon will now consider implementing the plan. O'Callaghan's Mills farmer and Cllr Conor Ryan believes it would have many benefits.

    Midwest Simon is calling for the Ukrainian Offer a Home scheme to be extended to all citizens in Ireland. The Simon Community's latest Locked Out of the Market report has found there are just 32 properties available across 16 study areas nationwide within the limits of the Housing Assistance Payment. In Ennis, there are just two properties available to rent, neither of which is within HAP limits. CEO of Midwest Simon Niall Garvey has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons the Government isn't treating the housing situation as a crisis.

    Ireland's finances are in "good condition". That is according to the Minister for Finance. Paschal Donohoe is confident we can meet the challenge of US tariffs. US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 30% tariff on imports from the European Union from the 1st of August. He has said that a trade agreement could possibly be reached between the EU and the United States. Minister Donohoe did caution that the scenario facing Ireland could "regrettably" have a "significant effect" on growth and job creation, although he added talks are underway at a European level to try and avoid this. Meanwhile, wider economic uncertainty worldwide has not led to a slowdown in consumer spending. New 'Bank of Ireland' data for May, shows Irish consumer spending rose 6.5 percent year-on-year. To assess whether consumers are looking at impeding financial hardship, Alan Morrissey was joined by, Micheál Collins, Ennis native economist and Assistant Professor of Social Policy at UCD and Dr Chris McInern

  • Claims North Clare Communities "Bypassed" By Tourism Initiatives

    It's claimed some communities in North Clare have been "bypassed" by tourism initiatives. Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy has asked Clare Tourism and Fáilte Ireland to work with towns and villages across the region to develop a "local area business and community training program" for each. It follows the establishment of the Burren and Cliffs Explorer shuttle bus in May which serves areas like Ballyvaughan, Corofin, Carran, Kilfenora, Doolin, Liscannor, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and Miltown Malbay. Councillor Garrihy believes smaller areas need a helping in hand in enhancing their tourism offering.

    Clare County Council is being urged to use the stick as well as the carrot as a means of clamping down on dog fouling. A total of 24 complaints have been made in Clare in relation to dog fouling so far this year. The local authority claims it's "committed to addressing the issue of dog fouling through a combination of education, enforcement, infrastructure, and community partnership". Doonbeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney believes fines should be doled out more liberally.

    Amid ongoing recruitment and retention challenges in Clare, Early Childhood Ireland is calling on the government to name a date to bring Early Years and School Age Care graduates' pay within public sector pay and conditions, in line with primary school teachers. In its Budget 2026 submission, the leading membership and advocacy organisation has urged the government to name a date to introduce pay parity for Early Years and School Age Care graduates, who are educated and trained to the same level as their peers in primary education. Alan began by asking Frances to further outline why they are calling for pay parity with primary school teachers for Early Years and School Age Care graduates.
