    Today is a big day at Shannon Airport and Foynes, Co Limerick. That is because Pan-Am is making a long-awaited return. After more than 30 years, a Pan American Airways Boeing 757-200, “Yankee Clipper 11” will land at Shannon Airport having retraced the Flying Boat routes of the 1930/40’s between New York, Bermuda, Marseilles, Lisbon, London and finally reaching Shannon Airport for a very historic visit to Foynes, Co Limerick.   • Foreign Direct Investment Agency Created Nearly 200 Clare Jobs Last Year

    Ireland's Foreign Direct Investment Agency created nearly 200 new jobs in Clare last year. According to new figures released by the Department of Enterprise, there are now 6,041 Industrial Development Authority jobs in this county. It marks a 3% increase on 2023's figure, when Clare had its lowest IDA jobs figure on record at 5,842. Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O'Gorman believes the rise is testament to the efforts of businesses promoting Shannon's industrial hub.

  • Calls For Bovine TB Compensation Rates To Be Raised In Clare

    It's claimed Clare farmers are being left significantly out of pocket due to an outdated compensation scheme. Currently the maximum remuneration available to a farmer who loses a cow to Bovine Tuberculosis is €3,000 or €5,000 for a pedigree bull. Farming bodies such as the IFA, ICMSA and ICSA have called for the cap to be increased however, citing operating costs and modern market values. Farmer and Scariff based Independent Member of European Parliament Michael McNamara says it must be updated.

    There's reportedly been an "alarming" increase in the amount of dogs being abandoned in Clare. Two dogs have been found in the Clarecastle area in the last week alone. Speaking on Clare FM's Morning Focus, Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote claims many breeders are selling pups without having the microchip registered in the new owner's name. He claims this is illegal and makes it difficult to the track down the person responsible for abandoning the animal.

  • Proposal Launched For Geriatric Centre Of Excellence 'University Hospital Ennis'

    A proposal intended for inclusion in the next National Development Plan has been made for a 'University Hospital Ennis'. The facility would be a Geriatric Centre of Excellence, equipped with an emergency department and would be located on a greenfield site, while a second Model 2 hospital and Local Injury Unit is suggested for West Clare. The recommendations are based on studies of the MidWest which analysed where future investment would have the greatest impact and were conducted by Hybrid Simulation Modelling Labs. Founder Sinéad Madden says it's needed to meet future population growth.

Doonbeg Fianna Fáil Councillor Rita McInerney says the homes are in line with the local authority's policy of allowing those with reduced mobility to access more convenient housing.
