Talking Apes TV: Tales From The Forbidden Zone INTERVIEW SPECIAL
23/12/2016 Duración: 01h22minHappy Holidays Ape Fans! Have we got a show for you! We are taking our customary break from reviewing an episode of the animated series, Return To The Planet Of The Apes, to talk with some special guests. On January 24, 2017, Titan Books will release the anthology book, Planet of the Apes: Tales From The Forbidden Zone based on the characters and situations from the classic era. On this episode we will be talking with co-editors and story contributors Rich Handley and Jim Beard. These high-energy guests tell us about the making of the book, what authors were chosen and which writers were interested but couldn't fit it into their busy schedules (no spoilers but one of these writers has written science fiction/fantasy films based a long time ago in a galaxy far far away). They even hint at whether or not any of the authors had written a story based on the mystery of Urko's helmet! We also talk with John Jackson Miller, an author who has played in many of our beloved universes from Star Wars, Star Trek and Hal

TALKING APES TV: Attack from the Clouds
28/10/2016 Duración: 01h46minHappy Halloween Ape Fans! In this episode of Talking Apes TV we celebrate this UrkoTastic holiday with stories of how Richard's Galen costume made him cry, we try to figure out how Yummy Mummy and Fruit Brute fit into the Monster cereals, and why Vincent Price is giving out Easter seals to trick-or-treaters. We also say goodbye to our dear friend, Gary Dubin who passed away in early October. We had lots of laughs as we dove into the 'was he/was he not' the young gorilla in the original Planet of the Apes film. Whether he was or not, we were lucky enough to meet him at an apes autograph signing last year. He will be deeply missed. Then we dive into the episode Attack from the Clouds. This is the 10 entry in the Return to the Planet of the Apes series which aired November 8, 1975. In this episode we continue with the theme of giant monsters when a a flying dragon creature is seen over Ape City. Urko believes it is his stolen plane being used in a secret plot to overthrow him. The dragon creature moves on and fi

23/05/2016 Duración: 01h20minHey Hey Apes! We teased at the end of our last episode that we were going to review the episode, 'Screaming Winds' from the Return to the POTA series but we’re going to take our customary mid-series break to talk with some friends old and new. We are very excited to have become fast friends with another simian podcast. Not apes, chimpanzees or orangutans, but Monkees! Creator and host, Ken Mills, will be joining us to talk childhood Ape stories, his passion for The Monkees and his KISS and Cheap Trick podcasts. What's an Ape connection without a new jingle? We have 2 great new Monkees/Apes jingles written by podcast composer Rob Dehlinger. If you thought 'Yabba Dabba Urko' was catchy ring-tone wait until you hear these! TALKING APES TV: River Of Flames
13/04/2016 Duración: 01h46minHey Hey Ape fans! This week on Talking Apes TV, Richard makes a connection between Planet of the Apes and another one of his passions, The Monkees (how ironic!). Then we dive deep into River of Flames (aired 10/18/1975). This is the 7th episode and now the half way point in this series of only 13 episodes, 1 less than the live action series. "River Of Flames" Synopsis Krador, the Underdweller, enlists the help of Bill and Jeff to help their world from being destroyed by the suddenly-active volcano. They suspect a trap, however if it is true than Judy will be in danger. Meanwhile Galen and Zira are battling over government funds with Zauis so they don?t go to Urko and his human-hunting agenda. Ape History class begins as we go back in time to visit the Adventures on the Planet of the Apes comic book and Planet of the Apes magazine. You have to give Fox credit for trying so hard to relaunch their ape franchise again and again. Sadly this was also a short lived series that ended after 11 issues in December of 19

On this month's show we discuss the 6th episode from the Return to the Planet of the Apes animated series, Terror On Ice Mountain which aired on November 22, 1975 (this episode should have been called "The forever-falling hot air balloon." or "Plot-jumping of the Apes") Synopsis During an archaeological dig, Cornelius uncovers an ancient, human book called, "A Day at the Zoo." He explains to Zira that this book would be deadly to the humans if it ever fell into Urko's hands. When Bill and Jeff see the book, Jeff wants to show the high-council so that the truth of the planet will be known, but Cornelius, fearing their safety, wants to hide it on the snowy mountain of Ghar. If you're a longtime listener of Talking Apes TV you'll know what we mean when we say this is the equivalent to the 'Horse Race' episode from the live-action series. Not the best episode to watch but the best episode to tear into because

TALKING APES TV: The Unearthly Prophecy
05/10/2015 Duración: 01h43minHey Hey Ape Fans! We celebrate our one-year ape-iversary of Talking Apes TV with this special episode of controversy! Richard and Mark give you an update on the Felix Silla/Gary Dubin debate. The little gorilla boy in the original Planet Of The Apes film should've said, "Guess who I am?!" instead of "Look it's a Man!" And if that wasn't enough, there was "Who's that Zira?" controversy. What episode of Return to the Planet of the Apes are we covering this time? If you look at some sources then you would have watched Lagoon of Peril. But if you look at other sources then you watched The Unearthly Prophecy. After taking apart this puzzle, we came to the conclusion that story-wise, The Unearthly Prophecy, would come as the third episode in the series. So that is the one we are covering. THE UNEARTHLY PROPHECY: While escaping from Urko and his soldiers Bill and Jeff find a secret door that leads underground. There they meet - The Underdwellers - cloaked humans with special powers. They also find another surprise f

The Adventure Continues with Special Guest Paul Bateman
13/07/2015 Duración: 01h18minHey Hey to all you Chimpanzee's, orangutang's and helmet wearing gorillas. In this episode of Talking Apes TV we wrap up the live-action Planet Of The Apes series. Joining Richard and Mark is artist and longtime Ape fan all the way from the UK - Paul Bateman. We give you our ideas of where we would want the show to go if CBS asked for our input for a second series and beyond! Which they could've produced seeing how there were more scripts ready to go. We go over these stories and see how they could've been handled. (Personally we wanted to see Galen in a 10 gallon hat. Listen and find out what that means.) We are also going to look at the 1981 wrap arounds Roddy McDowell shot as Galen when ABC recut the movies into 5 TV presentations! And we're also going to read some listener feedback. Thanks to all who wrote in and gave us information we didn't know about the series. Urko. Orko. Urko. Orko! Which is it? Urko himself weighs in on this heavily discussed debate. As we wrap up the live action series we want to

TALKING APES TV: "The Liberator"
03/05/2015 Duración: 02h18minHey Hey Ape fans! Welcome back to Talking Apes TV! We are the podcast that takes an entertaining look at each episode of the Planet Of The Apes TV series from 1974 to find out why it still stands up after 40 years. "The Liberator" is the 13th episode of the series and the most controversial because of its subject matter of slavery and atomic bombs. Many sources list this episode as "Unaired" - possibly because it was pre-empted in one or two major markets. However, both CBS-TV records and Neilsen Ratings data testify that it was shown in some areas. In "The Liberator" Alan, Pete and Galen are captured by a village who is forced to give up five human slaves to their ape overlords to work in the mines. The leader of the village sacrifices the unwilling humans to their god in a fatal ceremony. The temple where this is held turns out to be an ancient ruin where a poisonous invisible gas is manufactured. We also reveal the final winners of our Planet Of The Apes TV soundtrack! Thanks once again to LaLa Land Record

Synopsis: A village that Alan, Pete and Galen had just left is devastated by malaria. The trio returns to assist, only to find themselves sealed in by a quarantine. Alan and Pete butt heads with Dr. Zoran, a chimpanzee sent by the High Council to experiment on the humans. At the same time, Urko wants to burn the village to the ground, with everyone inside it. We also reveal the two new winners of the Apes CD soundtrack provided by La-La Land Records. Listen to find out if you're the lucky ape! Have you gotten your Talking Apes TV shirt yet?
