Synopsis: Pete, Galen and Alan risk an encounter with Urko when they attempt to foil the plans of a dishonest ape who is using bribery to gain total control over a district of human farmers. Unfortunately we (still) don't get any Pete backstory but we do get Urko backstory. We meet, Aborro, an old academy friend of Urko who may be even more corrupt and evil. When Galen hurts his leg and can't travel, Virdon and Burke seek refuge in a farm till their friend recovers. The farm is operated by a gruff but decent ape named Polar and his family. Throughout the episode, Pete shows Polar and Anto better farming skills. Polar is receptive to change, but Anto is not. What will happen? This episode is a departure from most - we see General Urko and Pete Burke working together in order to survive. While trying to get themselves out of a centuries-old subway station, Urko sees a poster for the San Francisco zoo. If Urko weren’t angry enough at the human race, seeing a gorilla in a cage tells him that maybe apes weren’t always the supreme. How will Pete survive this? LISTENER FEEDBACK: We heard you! Talking Apes TV is the podcast that explores the Planet Of The Apes TV series and why they still stand up after 40 years.  This week we look at the second episode of the Apes TV series titled 'The Gladiators', which aired in 1974.  Plot Summary: Virdon, Burke and Galen stumble into a village led by a chimpanzee prefect, Barlow, who keeps the human populace calm by gladiatorial combat. When Barlow finds the magnetic disc containing the record of the flight of Pete and Alan, they must get it back in order to have any hope of returning home. Galen goes to the village to attempt to retrieve the disc. While he is speaking with the prefect, Virdon and Burke are captured.  Listen for some great conversation and the many historical references to the 1970's in this episode.

Hosting alongside with me is not my beautiful wife JediTink Sarah, but the Skywalking Through Neverland creative consultant, Mark Oguschewitz. In our intro episode we give you a refresher of the films and the reasons why the Planet Of The Apes series is so important and has held up over the decades! One word - subtext. What are the Apes movies really about? Each film represents a sign of the time, and the issues the world was dealing with during the years 1968-1973.
