  • 78 – Ocean’s Wrong Twelve F-asterisk-ck With

    01/05/2017 Duración: 01h16min

This week we get hyped about announcements of albums and new music. Enslaved, Vintersorg, Exist, Schammasch, the Babymetal backing band’s project Kari Band. Oh, Decapitated and Dying Fetus also have new stuff, but maybe we’re not that excited about those. Then we talk about Roger Waters of Pink Floyd trying to get Radiohead to boycott Israel, James Hetfield of Metallica being involved in an anti-porn documentary, and Van Records (Sulphur Aeon, Slaegt, Urfaust) expanding to the U.S. Finally, the new Shadow of Intent album and Mike Portnoy praising Haken. Then, comic books (Ody-C) and movies (Colossal). 78 – Ocean’s Wrong Twelve F-asterisk-ck With https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep78.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 77 – Mikee Goodman of Sikth

    24/04/2017 Duración: 48min

The title is straight to the point! This week we have the great Mikee Goodman, vocalist of Sikth. Their new album The Future In Whose Eyes? is coming out on the 2nd of June, so we chatted a bit about it, and a lot more. His other project Outside the Coma, his upcoming video game No Truce With The Furies (gameplay), how Sikth has changed their process to work with Aliaes vocalist Joe Rosser in their line-up, and Mikee’s thoughts on where his lyrics come from and much more. • 76 – Nobody Expects The German Inquisition

    17/04/2017 Duración: 01h20min

This week we talk mainly about Woe‘s show in Hamburg being cancelled due to them sharing a stage with Inquisition, who organizers think is NSBM. That’s a cool discussion, but for those of you who just want the news, I guess we have some stuff along those lines as well. New music and stuff from Exist, Suffocation, Dragonforce, Shadow of Intent, Jamiroquai, Artificial Brain, Tombs, Bestia Arcana. Also the mini-feud between ESP guitars and Linkin Park, and hologram Ronnie James Dio being a thing. Also the new Sikth album. Then cool people time on a bunch of TV and movie stuff. Prison Break, Ryan Reynolds, Cillian Murphy and more. UPDATE: Since the time of the recording of this episode, more information has come to light from Woe. First off, and most importantly, the show was NOT cancelled by Hamburg Ist Droneburg as we had speculated initially but by the venue. The venue, Hafenklang, pressured the festival to pull Woe and Ultha’s show. Secondly, it appears we got the order of events wrong as Woe’s show al

  • 75 – Emperor Of Sand Isn’t (Totally Is) The Best Album Of March

    10/04/2017 Duración: 01h13min

Welcome to episode 95 of Heavy Pod Is Heavy Cast! And by 95 we mean 75. This week we talks about some new music, and Eden gets really upset about how much people like the new Mastodon. Ok, I’m being unfair – we have a level headed discussion about how great it is. Or maybe I’m just lying. I guess you can listen and find out! In other news, Papa Emeritus of Ghost is facing legal allegations that he isn’t paying band members, Spotify have introduced a paywall, and the following artists have new music/videos: Sikth, A Sense of Gravity, Russian Circles, Shadow of Intent, Power Trip, Vildhjarta, Prisoner, Scale The Summit. Also, Asira are an amazing new band that you have to check out. Then we do the usual cool people stuff, discussing (with spoilers) Grant Morrison’s comic Nameless and Ada Palmer’s Too Like The Lightning. Enjoy! Also, if you want Eden to get extra salty, let him know in the comments that you think Emperor of Sand is great. Of course, you could tell me I’m wrong and get me salty as well! YO

  • 74 – Technical Difficulties Feat. Ben Of Hadal Maw

    03/04/2017 Duración: 01h30min

Rough week! We have some news to discuss, and Ben of Hadal Maw to interview, but technical issues keep getting in the way. Also, bonus points if you can tell me what artist the episode title is referencing. Beyond having a neat conversation with Ben about the Australian scene and his writing process, we discuss some news with Eden, mainly new music from No Sin Evades His Gaze, Ulsect, The Acacia Strain (plus some musings on deathcore), Artificial Brain, Alpha Brutal, Orm and Alpha Brutal. Also Violet Cold got signed, maybe? We also discuss a cool playlist of “The Beauty in Black Metal”. Including stuff like Deafheaven, Zeal & Ardor, Panopticon, Ulver and more. We also discuss the movie Life and the third book in The Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch. Enjoy. 74 – Technical Difficulties Feat. Ben Of Hadal Maw https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep74.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. Check out this link to listen to it on iTunes. • 73 – Herman Li of Dragonforce

    27/03/2017 Duración: 01h40min

This week we have a super exciting guest! I’d try to slowroll it, but obviously from the episode title you can guess that it’s Herman Li of Dragonforce. We discuss a variety of topics, including the upcoming Dragonforce album Reaching Into Infinity, success, haters, creativity, Babymetal, video games and more. Herman was a great guest! Also Eden and I discuss some news after the interview. Chuck Berry‘s passing and the way the coverage has handled his problematic legacy, a bunch of new music, and Earth‘s Hibernaculum and Machine Head‘s The Blackening turning 10 years old. The new music includes Somnium Vox, Bloodshot Dawn, Entheos (not that one), Witherfall, Northlane, Emmure, Gorod, Enslaved, Solstafir, Beyond Creation (kind of). We also continue last week’s discussion on how the mentality focusing on new music sometimes makes us overlook albums, in this case Metallica‘s latest. In our cool people section we discuss Netflix’s Marvel’s Iron Fist and Better off Ted. 73 – Herman Li of Dragonforce https://s3.

  • 72 – Space Jews Aside, We Got The Money Shot

    20/03/2017 Duración: 01h24min

This week we recorded a bit early due to real life stuff. As such, we have a lot of asides in our discussions. We still talk about some news. Like the new Ulver song, Mastodon‘s Brent Hinds claiming Judas Priest aren’t metal, new Carach Angren, and Iapetus. The underrated release Eden highlights is Atsuko Chiba‘s Jinn. We then have an extended discussion on “the cult of the new”, and finally an extended discussion on Logan, the send-off to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. Bonus points if you figure out why I keep saying “we got the money shot”. 72 – Space Jews Aside, We Got The Money Shot https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep72.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 71 – The Podcasters Who Come To Steal The Attention Of The Listeners

    13/03/2017 Duración: 01h17min

Alright, so this week we talk about Nile. We do a balls deep segment on them. Also, we talk about some weekly stuff too. Alestorm‘s hilarious trolling with their 50 euro edition of their upcoming album, Disillusion‘s Patreon campaign, Suicide Silence complaining about their album not being well received, Pelagic Records (in general), and metal youtubers, namely Rob Scallon, Ten Second Songs, Paschalis Theotokis and RichaadEB. Oh, also there’s a new Mastodon song too.  71 – The Podcasters Who Come To Steal The Attention Of The Listeners https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep71.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 70 – Eden Loves Humanism

    06/03/2017 Duración: 01h21min

He actually hates it, but it’s good title clickbait to troll him! Also, sorry for the audio issues. I’ll fix them tonight, but if you really must listen ASAP, there you go. In continuance of no one complaining about me not linking to the stories in the show notes, I’ll descend further into laziness and continue not doing it. This week we discuss the Wintersun Indiegogo, new music from Solstafir, John Frum and Life of Agony, and the uproar about SXSW contracts talking about deportation. Then we go into a philosophy discussion about our backgrounds in the discipline, or core principles, morality and humanism. Eden loves humanism. 70 – Eden Loves Humanism https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep70.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. Check out this link to listen to it on iTunes. • 69 – Salt

    27/02/2017 Duración: 01h28min

Hey! This week we discuss stuff. Stuff like Marduk‘s show getting cancelled because they’re thought to be nazis, Wintersun‘s neverending shenanigans, Suicide Silence‘s new album. Yeah, this episode is called “Salt”. But we also talk about Dimmu Borgir releasing a live DVD and a new album, Gruesome being a good Death substitute, Ulsect totally not being djent, Myrkur working on a new album, Ingurgitating Oblivion being awesome, Dying Fetus working on a new album, then a bunch of new releases like Born of Osiris, Disperse, Hark, Benighted and more. Also movies and games and stuff at the end, of course.  Also, do you really care about the stuff I link in this post? If no one bothers with those links, I might as well just stop them. Let’s try dropping them for a week and see if anyone complains. 69 – Salt https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep69.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 68 – Cynical And Technical

    20/02/2017 Duración: 01h37min

Eden has abandoned us yet again, so, statistically speaking, we’ll probably have Ahmed or Nick with us this week. I guess you’ll have to guess whom’st’d’ve!? We talk about some news/drama, new releases, and mainstream-metal interactions. Namely Dallas Toler-Wade leaving Nile and getting replaced with Brian of Enthean. Then Cynic drama following the recent release of their demo tapes. Then some new music. Galactic Empire (and Anchorhead), Dodecahedron, Artificial Brain, Body Count, Linkin Park, Reaping Asmodeia, Ogarya, John Frum, Born of Osiris. Of course we talk about the dude singing Necrophagist at Canadian Voice. And the Grammys, namely Megadeth and Metallica.  Post-recording note: New Nile lineup is awesome. I’m stoked now. That fist bump was amazing. 68 – Cynical And Technical https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep68.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. Check out this link to listen to it on iTunes. • 67 – The Critique Of Pure Shitpost

    13/02/2017 Duración: 01h47min

This episode is just too good. Seriously, just listen to it. What does it contain? Edgy cultural/political jokes, a history of black metal and racism, an extended cool people section shitposting on philosophers like Kant, and much more. I’ll just tag some of the relevant bands here for SEO purposes, and the left is at your own peril. Abandon all hope, we who enter here. Warbringer, Suicide Silence, As I Lay Dying, Dream Theater, Overkill, Nidingr feat Myrkur, Sikth, Megadeth, Angra, Killswitch Engage. There you go. 67 – The Critique Of Pure Shitpost https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep67.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. Check out this link to listen to it on iTunes. • 66 – Linguistic Heuristic

    06/02/2017 Duración: 01h23min

This week we get weirdly political and anthropological. Well, maybe not weirdly. We are weird dudes after all. Not a lot of news, so we shitpost about Wintersun a bit more. Mini balls-deep on Mastodon while discussing their new single. We talk about a bunch of metal from places around the world that we normally aren’t well attuned with. Like Nine Treasures (thanks Bandcamp!), Violet Cold, and Sanatana. That devolves into a big discussion about language and geography and culture in metal. Also more Psykup, Eden gushes over Spectral Lore, we discuss the Ne Obliviscaris news. Then we bring back underrated releases with Gire‘s self titled. Finally, cool people time gets weird. • 65 – Time II Stop Jari

    30/01/2017 Duración: 01h27min

A week full of fun times! We talk about Wintersun shenanigans yet again, Tidal shenanigans, Bandcamp successes, then we talk about new music or content from a bunch of artists. Opeth, Leprous with Ihsahn, Psykup, Betraying the Martyrs, Born of Osiris, Dodecahedron, Disperse, Virvum, Six Feet Under, Arch Enemy, Quasarborn, Oni, Mayhem, Sunless, Pallbearer, Adam Young, and Mastodon. We also talk about this list of power metal in 2016, some cool people stuff. Also, take a look at this gofundme of a victim of crowdkilling (gfm link here) at a Code Orange show, and check out me and Eden’s new role-playing podcast! 65 – Time II Stop Jari https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep65.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 64 – Canadians In Cars Getting Tech-Death

    23/01/2017 Duración: 51min

Eden is out doing shady things, and I am yet again ridden with the darned cold, so this week we get Ahmed again and of course, we discuss tech death again. It’s relevant to recent happenings though! Mainly Relapse reissuing Necrophagist‘s classic Epitaph. We also talk about the upcoming Wintersun album “”””The Forest Sessions“””” (edit: I misread it – it’s called The Forest Seasons). Then we go on a stream of consciousness, discussing Converge, Wormrot, Benighted, Aborted, Aversions Crown, Cryptopsy, First Fragment, and Morbid Angel among others. It makes sense when you listen to it! 64 – Canadians In Cars Getting Tech-Death https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep64.mp3 Right click here to download audio file. • 63 – How Is This Train Still Going?

    16/01/2017 Duración: 01h52min

Do you like deathcore? My condolences. Oh, I’m just kidding. There are some good bands in the genre. On an unrelated note (truly), there’s a new Within the Ruins song and a playthrough as well. Also, Born of Osiris are redoing their debut plus a new song, and the new Aversions Crown is great. We also discovered some more Season of Mist stuff, namely Replacire. Nergal of Behemoth‘s new project Me And That Man is, well, interesting. Then we get incensed about people getting incensed about bands applying new funding and marketing models. Then we discuss why vocals are the main off-putting thing for a lot of people, and on that note, how avant-garde bands aren’t really that avant-garde. • 62 – Industry Shena-Nick-ans

    09/01/2017 Duración: 01h22min

Yay, we have a threesome! If we were youtube clickbait, I’d have to call this METAL PODCAST PRANK (GONE SEXUAL). Anyway, this week we have Nick around again, and as we are often wont to do, we talk about industry shenanigans with him. Namely the Nielsen report on 2016 music sales, Tidal’s new gimmick, some Facebook deathcore page scamming people, and then we go into some news. New music or whatever from Panopticon, Pyrrhon, Convulsing, Pallbearer, Good Tiger, and Wintersun (enjoy my rant on that). Also in our weekly Season of Mist worship, the One And All, Together, For Home album featuring Drudkh, Primordial, Winterfylleth and more. Then we talk about good double albums, what makes a live show good, and the shittiness of the notion of “female fronted” bands. Also I’m sick so I sound awful. Fun! PS: Wow that title is terrible. I have no shame though. Also, in light of having no shame, I’m just going to stop self-deprecating about how lazy I am in terms of typing up these podcast posts. It’s just the def

  • 60 – AOTY 2016 Deliberations, Part 2: Vape Out

    12/12/2016 Duración: 01h11min

I’m lazy so I’ll copy paste this from last week: So we’re doing a two-part series on picking the podcast’s official albums of the year 2016. We start with the blog’s list of 400+ albums that are worth consideration this year, whittle it down to 86 albums we care about, and then start cutting them. The objective is to get to a ranked list of 10 items and an overall list of 20 albums. We got down to about 45 last week until the cuts really start to hurt. This week we go down to 20, then to 10. This was real fun to do, so I hope you all enjoy too! • 58 – Cinematic Metal

    28/11/2016 Duración: 01h38min

I actually wanted to title the episode ” If I call this episode ‘Why isn’t Cinematic Metal a thing?’ surely someone will point me to some obscure Spanish power metal band that calls themselves Cinematic Metal so I won’t” but that would probably be too long for iTunes. Eden healthy on all realms but physical, so this week staff writer Cody DiLullo joins me to discuss movies instead. We do pay some lip service to metal news by discussing new music from Within the Ruins, A Day to Remember winning their lawsuit against Victory Records, the new WRVTH video, and Plini getting a solid shoutout from Steve Vai. Cody picks an underrated release, Fetish by The Boy Will Drown. Then we discuss our real shared passion: movies. We talk about the best movies of 2016, and we mention some other cool movies as well. We basically nitpick the fuck out of amazing movies, so don’t think we actually hate them. 58 – Cinematic Metal https://s3.amazonaws.com/heavypodisheavycast/ep58.mp3 Right click here to download audio file.
