A late goal by sub Sam Surridge earned the Reds a share of the spoils away at Bournemouth. The hosts had taken a first half lead and although the Reds had a good number of efforts on goal, Ryan Yates' first half header was ruled out for an offside. Even when Surridge did equalise, VAR had to check for offside, but the former Bournemouth man's goal stood. This felt like a symbolic result after Forest got battered at the King Power Stadium a few months ago, as a measure of how far the Reds have come. Two goals from Brennan Johnson decided the match, the first after VAR intervened on an offside call, and the second from a frankly sexy counter-attack. A dramatic night at the City Ground saw tempers flare, especially at the end after Forest won a penalty shootout to progress to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. Wolves will argue that they were marginally the better team in normal time, forcing a number of saves from Dean Henderson and having a penalty claim that falls into the "seen them given" category. Eleven changes to the starting line-up and most of them underperformed as Forest crashed to a deserved FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship strugglers Blackpool. The Reds deservedly went behind but then had more than enough chances to put the game out of sight, before more defensive errors allowed the Seasiders to convincingly put the game to bed, and leave Steve Cooper absolutely fuming. It was a big night for Forest - not quite must-win, but certainly must-not-lose against bottom of the table Southampton. The Reds (wearing yellow) duly took all three points, courtesy of Taiwo Awoniyi's first half goal. Although the away team did not play amazingly, the Saints could offer absolutely nothing and Dean Henderson didn't have to make a save as Forest got their first away win this century in the Premier League. It felt a little bleak when Forest managed to concede yet another soft goal in the first half, but they came out fighting after the break to really take the game to Chelsea; Morgan Gibbs-White was unlucky with a 20 yard thunderbolt, and the number 10's corner caused havoc in the box, and Serge Aurier took advantage to score his first goal for the club. In the end, Forest were disappointed not to get the win which would have elevated them out of the drop zone. It was a comfortable victory for the home team as Forest huffed and puffed, but provided very little threat to the Manchester United goal. First half efforts in quick succession from Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial effectively killed the game, although things could have been different if one of Ryan Yates' efforts had crept in; the first was saved, and the second snuck in off the leg of Willy Boly, who was in an offside position. In the end it was a convincing and comfortable victory for the Reds, who put out a strong XI against Blackburn's much-changed team. Brennan Johnson got two goals and put in a strong showing, with Jesse Lingard also causing problems, and scoring a goal with a double deflection. JLingz also set up Taiwo Awoniyi's goal with a great pass which the Nigerian complemented with a good cut inside and finish. Not one for the neutrals, this game saw Forest finish with an XG of 0.13, as the hosts' inability in front of goal, coupled with some resolute defensive play from the Reds, saw Forest leave the Amex with a hard-fought point. In truth, Dean Henderson only had to make one or two decent saves, and Leandro Trossard's effort hit the bar, so Roberto de Zerbi's men really should have made more of their territorial advantage.
