Who 37 - A Doctor Who Podcast

In which two out of three of our fearless podcasters get high on edibles while the third gradually sobers up from the two double-shots he downed prior to recording and is left wondering how the hell he’s going to edit the recording into a listenable podcast.   Did he succeed?  Why not drop a review on Apple Podcast  or a post on the Facebook page and let us know?  Anyway, we review the documentary film, “Doctor Who Am I” by the TV movie writer Matthew Jacobs, and we catch up on the latest casting news for Series 14.  

In which the fearless three piss on the graves of deceased right-wing radio broadcasters, trade chicken sandwich recipes, sing the praises of the best Dalek story you will never see on the actual Doctor Who program, and get in some gossip about other Doctor Who podcasts.  Happy Pride, everyone!

In which we go back in time to confront our racist pasts while trying not to mess with our timelines.  We also spend more time than we should discussing whatever the fuck “Doom’s Day” is, and Chris starts to come around on Disney’s involvement in producing the new series.  We get really political on this one, folks.  You have been warned.  

In which JB survives his first New Orleans Mardi Gras experience, Colin Baker gets cancelled, Doctor Who officially becomes part of the Marvel Universe, and Chris & Sean are tested on their knowledge of Doctor Who incidental and source music.  

In which JB marks the 10th anniversary of becoming a Doctor Who podcaster with a commentary on his very first podcast episode. 

In this technically challenged episode, we finally take on the Sixth Doctor with a Classic Commentary of “Terror of the Vervoids” (A/K/A The Trial of a Time Lord Parts 9-12), though, as always, we swerve way off topic the deeper we get into the story. We also give our Project Runway critiques of Ncuti Gatwa’s costume.

The Fearless Three ramble on about the latest news and rumors about the upcoming season of Doctor Who. Of course the BBC wait until after we recorded to release pics of Ncuti Gatwa and new companion Millie Gibson in their costumes, so all our talk about the show “not shying away from the boobies” is no longer valid because, like Clara, it looks like Ruby Sunday is going to be well covered up. We're taking this month off and will not be recording our review/commentary for Jodie's yet-to-air last episode until after Halloween.  So here's a previously unreleased bit of audio of the three of us discussing edibles.  Remember to imbibe responsibly, and don't forget to subscribe to the Doctor Who YouTube channel for f*ck's sake!!

With just over a month before the last Chibnall/Whittaker episode airs - with not one bit of promotion of said episode to comment on - the fearless three commiserate the passing of QE2 with a quiz that breaks JB’s brain and a commentary for “The Idiot’s Lantern” that barely covers what’s happening on the screen.

This month is all rumors and heresy (or should that be hearsay?) as the fearless three discuss the handful of “leaks” regarding the Centenary Special, the 60th Anniversary Special, Disney+ possibly buying the streaming rights for Series 14 and beyond, and Big Finish’s release schedule for the upcoming year. We also dive into from back in the days of the New Adventure novels, and we receive the most epic podcast review ever written.

Try as we might, our hearts were not into recording a podcast as much as usual, but just like the Psychic Circus, the show must go on! And just like how Hartnell and company filmed The Daleks Episode 2 mere moments after JFK’s assassination, we recorded this on a dark day in American history. To cheer ourselves up, we do a classic commentary on one of our favorite stories, “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy”. This is probably the drunkest and the darkest episode of the podcast thus far. Yeah, we’re a few weeks late, but we don’t have Patreon supporters, so we didn’t feel the need to drop everything to record a podcast when all the shit went down. So this is the inevitable reaction and discussion of the casting of Ncuti Gatwa as the next Doctor, David Tennant and Catherine Tate returning for the 60th Anniversary Special, and the new “Rose”. We also respond to listener feedback (a rarity!) and share some stories about meeting Doctor Who celebrities on the con circuit. Two Southern gents and a Yankee get drunk and talk about the latest episode, “Legends of the Sea Devils”, and one of us actually like it (for the most part). We also speculate over the “next time” trailer for the last Chibnall/Whittaker story and RTD2’s plan to model the series after the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, the conversation deviates now and again into subjects not suitable for the “Cancel Culture Club”.

In the midst of moving cross country and starting new jobs, our fearless podcasters find the time to make their monthly boys-night-out over Skype and record a Classic Who commentary. Even though we recorded this on Patrick Troughton’s birthday, Chris wanted to watch a Jon Pertwee story, so we end up doing a drunken commentary on one of our favorites, “Carnival of Monsters”. We also pay tribute to the nicest human alive today.

We went long on the recording session for the previous episode, so since I will probably be busy for a while setting up my new digs in NOLA (and am currently recovering from a nasty ear infection), I've split the recording into two episodes. We decided to do our review of “Eve of the Daleks” as a commentary, so whether you still have it on your streaming device or will be picking up the eventual DVD/BluRay release, listen along as Thasmine (oh dear god they’re really doing this?!) and company warm up some beans, run around like pieces on a ex-girlfriend's Monopoly board, and share their feelings for each other. Also, Chris can infuse THC into anything, Sean broke down and watched “The Mandalorian”, and JB stayed up till 3am to edit all of this.
