Women In Horror | Horrocane
21/02/2020 Duración: 08minIn the time that I’ve interviewed all these incredible women in horror, I’ve gotten to speak with actresses, directors, writers, performers, but Horrocane is a first. She’s a YouTuber from Australia. So not only is her location unique to the series, but so is her vocation. Talking from experience, YouTube is a tough place to break into. With the constantly changing algorithms, to the near daily updates to the monetization and discovery options, YouTube has made it hard for people who don’t already have an audience, which is what makes Horrocane so special. What started as dreams of modelling has turned into so much more, with her talent in writing, and her ability to give life to other people’s stories. Her channel focuses on creative talent from herself, her acquaintances, and people from the internet, where she, or a guest reads them paired with some great production work. It takes a lot of bravery to start a YouTube channel, and even more hard work to maintain it, but if there is one thing with YouTub

Women in Horror | Elizabeth McCafferty
19/02/2020 Duración: 54minThe great thing about this Women in Horror Month interview series is all the people I get to meet, and I couldn’t be happier about sitting down with Elizabeth McCafferty. She’s a British actress and filmmaker with a passion for feminist horror. She’s had some roles in some pretty large movies, and continues to make her way through the world of filmmaking, but her upcoming project is something she feels very strongly about. Elizabeth is currently funding a project called Love You To Death on Indiegogo, which she describes as a neo-feminist horror flick that deals with revenge and cannibalism. In other words, sign me up! It sounds like an incredible project that hits all the right notes in the world of horror. But she does need our help in getting it funded. As of writing this there is still 14 days left to donate, so I suggest doing so. Every little bit helps, and you’ll be able to find the link to it below. But what about the interview itself? Well, it was maybe the most fun I’d had interviewing somebody

Women In Horror | Somica Spratley
17/02/2020 Duración: 30minIn the world of horror, there are so many faces behind the scenes that make things work, that helps the machine run smoothly, and one of those faces is Somica Spratley. She is a visual effects and makeup artist with a flare for the creative. Not only is Somica a woman in horror, but she’s also a woman of color, and so much more. We all know that labelling people based on gender and skin color is a cliche, but when it comes to the film industry, it can still very much be an obstacle, even in 2020. However, that doesn’t hold her back, and in fact she uses what some might perceive as a disadvantage to her advantage. There aren’t many women who work in visual effects, or at least not many who get the opportunity, but Somica has used her talent and every tool in her skillset to help her achieve what many others only dream of.Through her talent, she has risen to become a well known, and well respected artist in Alabama, from working on sets to helping others hone their skills, Somica’s empire is quickly growing. Women in Horror | Kino McFarland
14/02/2020 Duración: 37minOne of the reasons why I love celebrations like Women in Horror Month so much is due to all the amazing and interesting people I get to meet, and today I got to chat with one of the most fascinating women I’ve ever had the pleasure of interviewing. Kino McFarland is a multi-talented performer, writer, filmmaker, and well, everything, and she even has a stage name, Kino B. Demented! How cool is that? While Kino’s mainstay is sideshow performances, where she does everything from eating fire to walking on glass, and even acts as a human dartboard, she also has an incredibly powerful short story published on her website (which you can find below) based on her own life experiences. She also shines a new light on what it is to be an extreme performer, boasting a masters degree to her belt - which is far more education than I have. She’s incredibly creative and intelligent, and that also shows in her passion for filmmaking. Her microshort, Witch Hunt, was shot very barebones using nothing more than the camera o

Women in Horror | The Horror Spinsters
12/02/2020 Duración: 44minBefore I get into the article, I would like to welcome The Horror Spinsters to the Morbidly Beautiful podcasting network, and they just happen to be today’s interview for Women in Horror Month! Kelly and Jess are two Canadian girls who absolutely love horror, especially in the feminist sense. They release their cast, I Spit On Your Podcast, on the last day of every month, and they talk about everything from horror movies to TV shows, and everything in between. Generally they have some kind of theme attached to the episodes as well. Don’t let the name fool you though, The Horror Spinsters aren’t you stereotypical versions of a spinster, in fact it’s a term they love, and are taking back, which is something we chat about in the interview. Feminism is important to them, from words, terms, and labels, to what it means in the realm of horror. Speaking of terms, words, and labels, I absolutely adore the name they’ve chosen for their podcast. It exemplifies everything they’re about, and it’s really quite awesom

Women In Horror | Stephanie Malone
07/02/2020 Duración: 48minOur first interview on the journey through the wonderful Women in Horror Month is a very special one. If you’ve listened to the podcast in the last year or so, you would be familiar with Morbidly Beautful’s website, and that website is founded by one Stephanie Malone. When I think of Women in Horror, she’s one of the first names to pop into my mind. She’s the creator, content provider, and editor-in-chief of the site, and she, more than anybody, deserves to be in the spotlight this week.During the interview, we chat about her passion for horror, and specifically women in horror. She tells us about her past, her experiences in horror and film, as well as what got her started on the road to what is now Morbidly Beautiful. Stephanie is a great person full of positive vibes and it was great to sit down and chat with her.In case you’re unfamiliar with what Women in Horror Month is all about, I encourage you to look into it further, but in the meantime, it’s all about just that - women in horror. Sadly, all too oft

The Banshee
31/01/2020 Duración: 15minThis week is the last day before we hit February, and with February comes the illustrious Women In Horror Month! In honour of that kicking off tomorrow, I have a myth for you in the realm of that - the Banshee. One of the most well known and famous of spirits, this wailing harbinger of death laments her song as a warning to those who are about to meet an untimely demise, or those close to you. If you hear a shrieking cry in the middle of the night, I have some bad news for you...Nevertheless, the Banshee has origins in the Celtic regions of the world, namely Ireland and Scotland, with a touch of Wales as well, but we're focusing mainly on the former two. Though the exact origin of the Banshee is unknown, her wails have been heard - and documented - as far back as the 1380's, and her story has evolved greatly since then too. She was once a fairy spirit who would lament at funerals, and days prior, weeping for the lost souls. However, as time went on, she evolved into more of a ghost story than anything, which

The Jersey Devil
24/01/2020 Duración: 24minI can’t believe it took me the long to do the Jersey Devil. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination with New Jersey. Don’t’ ask why, I’m well aware of the states reputation. Nevertheless, the allure of the hockey team, Kevin Smith films, and coastline has always been there – oh, and of course the Jersey Devil. In the same tier as Bigfoot and Loch Ness, the Jersey Devil ranks as one of the premier cryptids out there, with a history dating back to the 1700’s. With a legend that old, and that rich, there’s got to be a lot to talk about, and boy is there, and somehow I managed to keep the cast to just 25 minutes. It may be something I explore later on as well. From the Leeds’ family, to the mythological figure of Mother Leeds and her 13th son, to the geological location of the Pine Barrens and curses, this legend has it all. Like with any good origin story or legend the Jersey Devil has a lore rich in actual history, with historical figures such as Daniel Leeds and Benjamin Franklin bein

The Highway of Tears
17/01/2020 Duración: 37minThe Highway of Tears – what’s there to say on the topic? Well, a lot. For those unfamiliar with the massive stretch of highway in the middle of British Colombia, it’s a tragic and terrible story that is ongoing to this day. It’s a series of cases involving Canada’s Indigenous population that have largely gone unsolved, and some date back to the 1960’s. Over the course of the last 60 years, many women and young girls have gone missing or have been murdered along that length of road, with the official count being 18, but local residents claim it to be well over 40. Sadly, it’s not an isolated problem with Canada’s indigenous population, as that community of people have faced struggles for decades, if not more. However, the highway of tears, with its infamy is one of the deadliest places in the country for women and girls, especially for those of First Nations heritage. Listen to the podcast for more information and stories behind this terrible place, this dark spot on Canada’s history. Our sponsor: www.morb

The Beast of Bodmin Moor | Alien Big Cats
10/01/2020 Duración: 19minIt’s time for a lesson in the ABC’s… No, I trust you know your alphabet, I’m talking about Alien Big Cats. These aren’t some extra-terrestrial tentacle beings that look like cats, but rather regular old exotic cats, like pumas or leopards that have somehow found their way to a part of the world in which they simply do not belong. From these ABC’s stems countless myths and legends, and even inspired (to a degree) a classic Sherlock Holmes tale. These cats roam the highlands and fields of places all around the world, but today’s stop takes us to jolly Ol’ England, to a place in Cornwall called the Bodmin Moor, where a beast has been sighted for years, and on more than one occasion. Despite the lack of hard evidence, people swear that something stalks the scenic plains. In the episode, we’ll talk about different theories, as well as the likelihood of something like this living so far from its natural habitat. Our sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comMerch: www.redbubble.com/people/HorrorShotsYouTube: Horror Sho

Lake Lanier Revist | Hannah Truelove
03/01/2020 Duración: 14minWelcome to the very first episode of the Ominous Origins Podcast! Of course, this is still a Horror Shots Production, but with a twist. With the new branding, I’m thinking of throwing in some more real life dark history into the mix. Most of everything will still be in the supernatural vein, but I would like to expand on more natural horrors as well, such as the topic of today’s podcast. A little while back when we stopped off in Georgia for our tour of the Eerie USA, we talked about the cursed Lake Lanier, but there was one aspect that stuck with me; the unsolved murder of local teen, Hannah Truelove. Her story is a startling one, one that was never fully resolved. I felt compelled to look into her story more, and see what I can find, and what I found was chilling. An Update | A New Name
30/12/2019 Duración: 04minAs I mentioned in the last episode, Horror Shots, the Podcast is getting a makeover, and this is it! Welcome to the Ominous Origins Podcast! A brand new season will be kicking off on Friday, with the same compelling content you've come to expect from me here at Horror Shots. I also mentioned that Horror Shots won't be going anywhere. The brand still is alive and well, and as you can see from the RSS feed, it's still under the Horror Shots banner. I will be expanding Horror Shots in the future to include more great horror content, from clothing and designs to photography and short videos. Just, be patient. I really do hope you enjoy the new design and name (it rolls off the tongue a little bit better), and I hope you're as excited for the future as I am. If you would like to show your pride, check out my Redbubble store for some some designs, including the new logo for sale on a variety of things! You can do so here: https://www.redbubble.com/people/HorrorShots See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out inf

Year in Review | Icelandic Yule Cat
27/12/2019 Duración: 13minWell 2019 is coming to an end. It means a fresh start for many, and with it being a new decade, I thought I’d talk about the year that’s been, and what the future holds, as well as thanking you for listening. If I could thank each and every one of you personally, I would. It means everything to me that you’ve given the podcast a chance, and that you’ve stuck with me for so long. Thank you. But, that’s not all we talk about today. We take a trip to Iceland to have a look at their Krampus style legend, in the form of the Yule Cat, or the Jólakötturinn. I try to pronounce it in the episode, so have fun with that one. This cat stalks the Christmas night not to ensure behavior, but to enforce generosity. See what I mean in the latter half of the cast! Our sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comYouTube: Horror ShotsTwitch: www.twitch.tv/horrorshotsplaysWebsite: www.horrorshots.comInstagram: horrorshotsphotographyTwitter: @horrorshotspodFacebook: HorrorshotsPatreon: www.patreon.com/horrorshot See acast.com/privacy fo

Indiana | Crosley Monster
20/12/2019 Duración: 13minIn the state of Indiana there lives a familiar monster. Now, this beast has had at least two eye witness accounts, and both describe the same thing – though the encounters were vastly different. I’m of course talking about the Crosley Monster. Who, or what is that? Great question. This is a fairly new cryptid roaming the woods near Crosley Pond in Indiana, in fact the first, and potentially last sighting of this thing came in 2012. Many believe this to be a bigfoot like creature, but I have my suspicions based on these encounters with it. Regardless of what it is, it really does live up to its name – a monster. But, to hear these encounters, and to build your own opinion on just what it is, you’ll just have to listen to the podcastOur sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comYouTube: Horror ShotsTwitch: www.twitch.tv/horrorshotsplaysWebsite: www.horrorshots.comInstagram: horrorshotsphotographyTwitter: @horrorshotspodFacebook: HorrorshotsPatreon: www.patreon.com/horrorshot See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-ou

Friday The 13th
13/12/2019 Duración: 17minYes, Friday the 13th is more than just a Voorhees family reunion; it’s a day wrought bad luck and for the religious and superstitious, it means a whole lot more than many people think. Its origins date back hundreds upon hundreds of years, and it has had plenty of dark and devastating things have happened on it. From the ancient Greeks who had a different take on the 13th, to Italy, who also have an unlucky day, we’ll be exploring the origins and some of the events to have taken place on this day horror fans have claimed as their own. We’ll also take a little look at the origin of the number 13, and why it’s just so damn unlucky to many cultures around the world. Does it all stem from that mysterious Friday? Or is there more to it? Well, you’ll just have to give the episode a listen to find out more! Our sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comYouTube: Horror ShotsTwitch: www.twitch.tv/horrorshotsplaysWebsite: www.horrorshots.comInstagram: horrorshotsphotographyTwitter: @horrorshotspodFacebook: Horrorshots

Illinois | H.H. Holmes
06/12/2019 Duración: 20minWhile today’s topic might not be an urban legend, so to speak, it does fall into the realm of disturbing and macabre. Sorry to those who were hoping to hear about Bigfoot or other cryptids, but today I have a real life horror for you, something tangible, a monster made of man. We’re talking about H.H. Holmes, and his murder hotel. We can’t talk about Illinois without going into some detail about Holmes and his notoriety. I don’t touch on these topics too often, but again, Holmes and his hotel are the things of nightmares. Just who was Holmes, and what is this disturbing murder hotel (or castle as some call it), well, he was believed to be America’s first serial killer with an astonishing and downright diabolical trail of horror left in his wake. Grabbing tramps and run-a-ways wasn’t enough for this creature, no, he had his sights set on something bigger. During the World’s Fair of 1893, he decided to convert a building into a hotel for guests of the over 40 countries that would be attending said fair. On

Idaho | Coyote and The Seven Devils
29/11/2019 Duración: 11minThe stop on our tour is the unassuming Idaho, the state known for its potatoes, of all things. Well, like any other state, it has legends of its own. Being located in an area rich with history, including being part of the Oregon trail, and having a huge indigenous presence, it’s bound to have a story or two behind it. And that’s where we enter Coyote and the Seven Devils. The story goes that there were seven giants who preyed upon the children of Nez Perce, until the tribe’s chief called upon Coyote for help. With that assistance, they were able to quell the assault on their tribe… But how was that accomplished, and just who was Coyote and the Nez Perce people? Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out.Source: Bigfootencounters.comOur sponsor: www.morbidlybeautiful.comYouTube: Horror ShotsTwitch: www.twitch.tv/horrorshotsplaysWebsite: www.horrorshots.comInstagram: horrorshotsphotographyTwitter: @horrorshotspodFacebook: HorrorshotsPatreon: www.patreon.com/horrorshotBy The Candle's Light: shows.pippa.io

Hawaii's Man-Eating Spirits
22/11/2019 Duración: 16minAh, Hawaii! If I were to ever travel the USA in person, this would most certainly be a destination. The sun, the sand, the waves, it’s truly a beautiful state full of history and culture. However, there are certain places in the state that should be avoided, such as an island called Ni’ihau. The story goes that this is a very plentiful spot to fish, however as with the good comes the bad. The island, which sits as one of the most western islands is home to the 7th largest land mass, and has some rich history beyond the spirits that inhabit it, but that’s really all we’re interested in. I’m talking about the Man Eating Spirits of Ni’ihau. The story goes that many years ago several fisherman took a trip there to catch some fish, as the area around their village had seemingly dried up. They knew it was a risk. They’d heard the stories, but thought it was worth the risk so they could feed their fellow villagers. Brave souls they were, however not all of their stories end happily. Hawaii is home to all k

Georgia | Lake Lanier
15/11/2019 Duración: 22minWe are back with our tour of the Eerie USA this week after a little pit stop last. Today we’re going to be looking at the State of Georgia. After trolling for the creepiest urban legends, I found a whopper of one. We’re talking about Lake Lanier, the man-made reservoir sprawls an enormous distance, and was stricken with issues right out of the gate. From trouble funding the project, to having various states squabbling over the use of it, everything just seemed to be cursed. Eventually, after moving over 250 families, several cemeteries and their corpses (which, you know, is never a bad idea…), and essentially burying entire towns, strange things began to happen, as if that wasn’t strange enough. An extraordinary amount of people have either gone missing, drown, or even died in other ways (I’m looking at you murder) in and around Lake Lanier. Is the lake actually cursed, or is it just a popular place for people to visit, thus experiencing more accidents and deaths simply because of said number of visits? T

Interview with Ken Ammi | Nephilim Follow-Up
08/11/2019 Duración: 58minA few months back, you may recall, I did a podcast just touching the topic of the Nephilim. I say just touching for one reason, it is a very deep topic, deeper than I could have imagined. It is so deep in fact that I was contacted by one Ken Ammi to discuss the topic in more detail. In fact Ken didn’t even cover everything on the topic. Am I getting ahead of myself? I think I’m getting ahead of myself. First, you might be asking: What happened to the Eerie USA? Well, don’t worry, I’m just taking a little break from it to bring you this opportunity! Secondly, you might be wondering who Ken Ammi is, though you might have heard of him before, or even be a fan of his. Ken is an author, scholar, and all around intellectual. He runs his own website, http://www.truefreethinker.com where he covers an assortment of topics on religion, secular thought, and all kinds of incredibly interesting subject. I highly suggesting taking the time to visit his site, and purchase one of his books – one is on the Nephilim,
