All of our goods, our prayers and our commodities are to be brought before Christ. Far from having an impact on only a select few, the Psalmist envisions the King having a global impact. Showing love in action towards those in need. The King redeems those he loves out of slavery. Our love should not be withheld for a select few, but rather, given freely to all people. We should stand for the poor and needy and show our love in practical ways.

While our faith often puts us at odds with the world, we should seek, as we are able, to bring joy and levity to those who are hurting. 1. The King is honored (vs. 5a) 2. Looking forward to a future reign of God’s anointed; the Psalmist begins by calling on God to give the king a desire for justice and righteousness. The convicting work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers is practical and gracious. Those who are born of God through Christ should share some common traits with one another. This sobering text deals with the work of the enemy and how we can combat his evil schemes. Rather than giving cause for fear, the children of God possess the upper hand and can rest confident in what they have been taught. Believing that God rescues us from sin in Christ, we are to respond in obedience to Him. Far from being a legalistic or mechanical reaction, our commitment is given veracity by the love we show each other. The letter opens with a call to fellowship: fellowship with God and with each other. These relationships would be easy if not for the presence of sin in our lives. What we are attempting together is really just obedience to Christ’s call on our lives. The call of Christ goes against our natural inclinations. It’s not a path of ease and victory — its one of self-denial, death and obedience we are to follow and it does not come naturally. The church gathers together to equip the saints for the work of ministry and to grow in our biblical understanding and, when working properly, builds itself up in love. 1. We can so easily fall victim to our own egos and tell ourselves that our successes have gotten us to where we are. When we are tempted to despair we are encouraged to look back over God’s great faithfulness and trust in his present provision. God is faithful and will go before us in our battle against sin.
