Fantastic description is marred down by a "who done it?" that really only has 2 suspects without much motivation, then gives up a third in the final chapter. It has great use of a first person narrator very aware of his surrounds though, and establishes the parents involved maybe better than any story before it. I talk about all this, and puppies, on this week's episode.

This week's book has a lively protagonist, maybe the most rational parents, a little interracial romance, and some things that are better off imagined than seen. It tries to be a ghost story, but a sci-fi story, but a psychological thriller, and kind of falls on it's face at all three. I compare it a bit it to the visual treatment, but mostly have fun talking about Jerry's interactions more than any real danger he faces. Don't worry, next week we have werewolves!!!!

To round out the "big 3" long running stories/themes with Slappy the Dummy and Monster Blood, we have the first story involving a certain shopkeeper's long lost masks. We cover the protagonist's relationships with other angst-ridden youths in fiction, artificial life trying to exist in a real space, and the differences between the TV and book versions of one of the most famous Goosebumps stories around.

This week, the guys talk about the "pros vs. joes" gap, asking people to go back to their county, and the times they were rejected by women. One hosts' story is a bit more detailed. Cam also gives an update on the auto theft situation, and why the police are gre...goo... why they did their job properly in this instance.

Ten books in, I think this is the best story to date. We follow Hannah Fairchild's trek from kid to detective to guardian angel over the course of a summer, as she tries to uncover the truth about her new neighbor. Real danger, real consequences, and real emotion hit home, and it's the toughest re-read yet. All this, and a post office worker with a shotgun on this week's episode!

We probably have our strongest protagonist, as he faces monsters, kidnapping, and real deal murder. I also make a few comparisons to certain comic book locales, and take a few shots at M. Night Shyalaman.
