The GooseDown #14 - The Werewolf of Fever Swamp
21/08/2019 Duración: 19min*VOTE FOR THE SOUTH KONGRESS PODCAST AS AUSTIN’S BEST LOCAL PODCAST!* https://www.austinchronicle.com/vote-best-of-austin/ This week's book shows the limitations of only have 120 or so pages to work with. Fantastic description is marred down by a "who done it?" that really only has 2 suspects without much motivation, then gives up a third in the final chapter. It has great use of a first person narrator very aware of his surrounds though, and establishes the parents involved maybe better than any story before it. I talk about all this, and puppies, on this week's episode.

The GooseDown #13 - Piano Lessons Can Be Murder
14/08/2019 Duración: 24minThis week's book has a lively protagonist, maybe the most rational parents, a little interracial romance, and some things that are better off imagined than seen. It tries to be a ghost story, but a sci-fi story, but a psychological thriller, and kind of falls on it's face at all three. I compare it a bit it to the visual treatment, but mostly have fun talking about Jerry's interactions more than any real danger he faces. Don't worry, next week we have werewolves!!!!

-
The GooseDown #10 - The Ghost Next Door
17/07/2019 Duración: 30minTen books in, I think this is the best story to date. We follow Hannah Fairchild's trek from kid to detective to guardian angel over the course of a summer, as she tries to uncover the truth about her new neighbor. -
The GooseDown #9 - Welcome To Camp Nightmare
26/06/2019 Duración: 29minThis week's episode continues the trend of the unreliable narrator, as we navigate the scariest place a 12 year old can visit - summer camp! We probably have our strongest protagonist, as he faces monsters, kidnapping, and real deal murder. I also make a few comparisons to certain comic book locales, and take a few shots at M. Night Shyalaman.
-
The GooseDown #8 - The Girl Who Cried Monster
19/06/2019 Duración: 26min*CHECK OUT THE SOUTH KONGRESS PATREON!* https://www.patreon.com/ceehawk This week's book is the first in the series to introduce the unreliable narrator trope, and play a true cat and mouse game. Based on the "boy who cried wolf" adage, we follow Lucy on her path to be proven right, and explore the mindset of the misunderstood child, as well as the misunderstood parent. All this, and some John Goodman/Denzel Washington appreciation.
