He keeps a low profile on purpose because he prefers being heard and not seen. Although he has played for many famous people, he loves living a life where, once the party is over, he literally blends back in to a modest everyday life, recognized by no one...except those with discerning ears.Marv loves music. His pursuits to share his affinity for celebratory music that enlivens, emboldens and inspires is his motivation. His first goal when he began to DJ was to make a mixed cassette tape that would be enjoyed so much that people would copy it for their friends and encourage them to listen to it. Caring nothing about earning cash, at first, Marv just wanted to be heard and shared.Marv's earnest approach to DJing included respecting the craft and developing his skill so that he would be heard and regarded as a 'real DJ' (based on old-school definitions: Seamless mixing of his great record/music collection, flow and ability to read crowds). Marv's attention to performance detail combined with an open mind about including off-chart music in his repertoire caught the attention of a few major players in the music, fashion and television industry. In 1995, Terry Lewis (of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) gave Marv, who was employee of his Perspective Records label, the chance to play a warm up set at a venue called Tramps for the band Mint Condition. The owner of Tramps approached Marv about being the opening DJ for shows that featured 'urban' music and Marv got to open for artists ranging from Erykah Badu to George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic to the Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Chic, Rick James and Outkast.Marv solidified his status as the in-house DJ for Tramps and that led to an opportunity to work on a legendary night that would introduce him to many elites in the entertainment industries. Prince had a show at Madison Square Garden and he'd set up an after party and jam session to take place at Tramps and Marv was there to keep the crowd happy while they waited a couple of hours for Prince to arrive. In the crowd was a vice-president at Viacom who connected with Marv, and soon, Marv was playing at events for MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon.Since Marv essentially leapfrogged the club scene and found favor in New York's special events industry, Marv never pursued gigs at large and popular clubs. Since Marv didn't feel good about being part of bottle service club scenes where people paid as much as they would to take a vacation, for one night out - Marv chose to play at modes

A convergence of everything excellent, a night where I played music at an HBO event for Harry Belafonte at the restaurant & lounge Red Rooster. 24/09/2011 Duración: 03h12min

On this evening at the Waldorf Astoria, I transformed from Qool DJ Marv into the entertainer of the entertainers, Rainey Purple & the BlackerBerry Sweet Juice Orchestra. I only had to imagine what it would be like to be at a party in the 1920s. What would be the feel of an evening out? Back then, that was going to the club. http://theurbandaily.com/tv/jbarrow/qool-dj-marv-is-hbos-secret-weapon-video/ Outstanding musicianship abounds. A special thank you to spectacular pianist Peter Mintun. Every time that he took the stage, the stage was set for a change in energy and feeling. And thanks to HBO who, thankfully, confidently, feel that I'am able to envision their vision for the evening and deliver the musical atmosphere, no matter what the style or era. Imagination...action! • Love'nTruth&Hope'n

    30/08/2011 Duración: 01h19min

This is like an R&B mix, except at house music tempo. This is an R&B conversation, too. The mature version. The down here on the ground version. Let us listen in on this couple's house: Said he, "A Day Without U - Osunlade" Answered she...with a reaction by him, "My Reflection (Original) - Osunlade" Then he lays it on the line and tells her what he really thinks, "Angel - Liquideep" She heard, but had to confess, "Closer I Get (Club Mix) - Marie St. James" With words like those coming from her, they moved the conversation from the kitchen to a room where they could relax. You know what they say men think about every x amount of moments? "All Night Long (Album) - Mood II Swing" She's flattered and it feels so good to be wanted but she's got something else to say, "Stay Together (Original Vocal Mix) - Barbara Tucker" His eyes tell her that he understands as he reaffirms why he is where he is, "Girl of My Dreams (Timmy Regisford & Adam Rios Remix) - Peven Everett" Still, however, she wants to makes

On a boat as a part of a summer music festival called SunceBeat put together by the people behind Southport Weekender is a heck of a place to debut my house music sets. Especially as the opener on a boatride that included two Chicago house music legends Anthony Nicholson (http://www.5chicago.com/features/june2011/anthony-nicholson/) and Boo Williams (http://www.touchofsoul.fr/artist.php?id_mix=54&id_dj=31). Anthony said, "Do you my brother." {} = mental notes {I was} - Nervous Track (another word for Introduction and/or Statement of Purpose} - Preamble {putting that last thought into words} - Give A Little Love {it was kinda cloudy at this point + a Chaka's vocal from Clouds gave the groovers a familiar voice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xADrCKYUEcc} - In Da Clouds {but then after a few nautical miles, it got real pretty and blue sky like} - Paradise {now a groove with some nice organ

A mix made for high school students who participated in a writing program at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It contains a blend of Hip Hop and R&B with a thematic message of positive thinking, togetherness, and urban political ideas. The other side of the game. Look Beyond What Is Love Of My Life - Erykah Badu with Angie Stone, Queen Latifah, & Bahamadia (to start with the voices of women so that the young women are immediately involved...& I grew up with 6 women under one roof so many of my days were full of the voices of women who loved me) The Renaissance - All Natural featuring Lone Catalyst (included for the Jazz piano loop and lyrics that are personal, informative, and instructive. Also, the mention of getting by without stimulants is an idea that needs to be in the mix of it all) Hip Hop - Calvin Harris featuring Maine (American Hip Hop listeners generally let the accent stop their interest in UK Hip Hop - if they did not do that, they would hear the kinship and shared experience of appreciation
