At the start of the show we announce the lineup for the 10th annual Apocalypse Meow 10 fundraiser for Midwest Music Foundation coming up the first weekend of November. After that we’ll do a deep dive into the 4th annual PorchFestKC happening in Midtown KC on Saturday, October 14. The fest turns porches on homes in three neighborhoods into a stage for 150+ acts. it returns to Valentine, and has grown to Roanoke, and the eastern edge of the Volker neighborhoods in Midtown KC. We will sit down with fest organizer Kathryn Golden and talk about the event, logistics, where to park and of course play music from several of the acts on the fest. Hear from Cameron Johnson Music, Pearl Allure, The Matchsellers, Noah Davis Music, Black Stacey, CUDO, Eems, Amanda Hughey Music and Streetlevel Uprising.

Tonight on the show it’s all about new music and new releases! Our inbox was full of music that’s been released over the last few months and we wanted to share it with you. We hear brand new music from The Roseline, Fathers, CANDYASS, Momma's Boy, They Call Me Sauce, KD Kuro, Andrew Foshee, Khrystal. and recent releases from The Old Son and The Dear Misses. and then NEXT Tuesday, October 10 is all about Porchfest KC!

This time on the show we turn our attention to the 86th annual 2017 Plaza Art Fair, happening Friday-Sunday, September 22-24, 2017. In addition to featuring artwork from 240 artists and food from 25 restaurants, there are 3 stages featuring 50+ KC area bands and it’s all FREE. Take a deep dive into the lineup on Ink Magazine’s stage; this is the 7th year for INK magazine's Stage at Country Club Plaza Art Fair at the corner of Ward Parkway and Pennsylvania right by Gram & Dun. Hear music from some of the 23 acts; from Friday: Hembree, Smokey James & the Avalanche and Emmaline Twist. Then Brandon Phillips and The Condition, Golden Groves, Barclay Martin Ensemble (his final gig before he moves to Spain!), Claire Adams and Nick Siegel, who play on Saturday, September 23. Finally hear music from Run With It playing on Sunday, September 24. 

It's another two-hour special Pledge edition this week! Our friends from Pink Royal stop by to talk about their brand new EP and big album release show coming up on Friday, Sept 22 at recordBar. Then we hear from a lot of BIG acts and KC bands too that have upcoming gigs; names like Ben Harper, The Mountain Goats, Angel Olsen, Tech N9ne, and BANKS, as well as Violent Bear, The Center State, Yes You Are and a bunch more!

This show is all about KKFI Crossroads Music Fest 2017, which is happening on Saturday, Sept 9. Bill Sundahl, the man with the plan from KKFI 90.1 FM will join us and tell us about the great lineup featuring 40+ bands in venues all around the KC Crossroads Arts District. We give you all the info and logistics about CMFKC and of course, hear a lot of music from acts playing the fest. Music included from The Phantastics/Kemet the Phantom, Various Blonde, Making Movies, Crystal Rose Music, Eems, Pageant Boys, The MGDs, Duncan Burnett and Brad Cunningham Band.

We wrap up Promoter Month with long time KC/Lawrence promoter Brett Mosiman of Pipeline Productions. This will be our fifth week sitting down with a promoter and they have been some of our FAVORITE SHOWS!!! Brett, books CrossroadsKC at Grinder's, The Bottleneck, other area venues and back in 2004 he created Wakarusa. He also helped pick the music for this week’s show, we’ll hear from: David Byrne & St. Vincent, Sylvan Esso, John Butler Trio, The Indigo Girls, Lake Street Dive, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise and the great Levon Helm.

We’re joined by special guest and longtime KC/LFK promoter Jacki Becker of Eleven Productions Presents. This is our 4th week of hanging out with the biggest promoters in the KC are that book your favorite bands in your favorite venues. Jacki’s answers to Chris' interview questions helped picked the songs for this week’s show: Neutral Milk Hotel, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Murder By Death, Thundercat, Angel Olsen, Pinegrove, Noname and The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die - yeah, it’s a great show! 

It's our 3rd week of Promoter Month and this week we’re joined by Pat Fielder from Mammoth. He books shows all over the KC and Lawrence, from The Granada Theater to Providence Amphitheater, he works on Middle of the Map Fest, Boulevardia and just did Flyover KC a couple weeks ago. His answers to Chris' questions have picked the music for this week’s show. We’ll hear from: Hot Water Music, Jason Isbell, Jawbreaker, The Menzingers, Descendents, Iron And Wine, Six Percent, Duncan Burnett and SZA . 

On this show we sit down with the person behind one of the most active venues in KC, Frank Hicks of Knuckleheads Saloon.  We talk about how he turned a motorcycle shop into an amazing venue with four stages hosting dozens of bands weekly. His answers to Chris' questions make up the playlist, hear music from: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash and Jason Eady. Maybe some stories about Merle, Johnny and Leon Russell too..? Then, for the last segment of the show we are joined by members of the band Mess, as they celebrate the release of their new EP this Saturday, August 12 at The Rino.

All through August on the EIGHT ONE SIXTY it’s “Promoter Month”. Every week we’ll sit down with the people that book your favorite bands in your favorite venues all across KC & Lawrence. between the FIVE of them they have well over 100 years in the music business. We kick off “Promoter Month” with Mike DuCharme of AEG Presents and Arvest Bank Theatre at The Midland and as an added bonus, Jon Hart will be joining us for the show too. Hear from huge acts like: Radiohead, Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave, Chance The Rapper, Fleet Foxes (here next Tuesday!) and The Chemical Brothers. Also hear from some up and coming acts too, like Petit Biscuit and Middle Kids (here on Sept 9).

Of all the people to surface in the KC music community lately, one of the most intriguing is 20 year old,  Aaron Rhodes of Shuttlecock Music Magazine and Podcast. He lives in your favorite venues and also in DIY spaces that you maybe never have heard of. Listen as we talk to him about his podcast, then check out his last podcast where he sat down for 80+ minutes with Bill Brownlee of Ink Magazine, The Kansas City Star & KCUR 89.3. Podcast Month continues as we sit down with the guys behind The Chalkboard Podcast to kick off the show! Then we hang out with the guys in Instant Karma as they get ready for their big EP release show on Saturday night, Instant Karma! Trying to Find My Mind EP Release Free Show. The Chalkboard guys have picked out music to share from Salar Rajabnik, Ben Kweller, Styrofoam and maybe some others too. Also, we get a sneak peak/listen at some tracks from Instant Karma's new EP.

It’s halfway through the year let's focus on some of our favorite releases and shows of the year so far! We could never fit ALL of our favorites into a one hour show but if you listen you will hear some great songs from Krystle Warren, Smokey James & the Avalanche, Radar State, Momma's Boy, The Sluts, Black Stacey, Second Hand King, Olivia Fox, Lennon Bone and one non-KC act, Slowdive(band). Then Anna Selle and Kevin Briody will join us to talk about a new publication, HearQueer. It’s an online and print publication that amplifies queer voices in music. The HearQueer Issue 001 Launch event is at Mills Record Company on Friday and Rachel Mallin and The Wild Type and Erica Joy Music will perform. 

We told Chris to do whatever he wanted since it's his birthday week, so you can hear some of Chris' FAVORITE things!
