  • Someone You Should Know: The Center for the Intrepid

    16/12/2007 Duración: 19min

Bruce McQuain from QandO joined us for another edition of Someone You Should Know. Bruce has a great Veterans Day tribute, reminding us that everyone who serves is a hero. The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Thanks to Matt, Bruce is now on board and we are lucky to have him as part of the show. Tonight Bruce used a series of fabulous articles in the New York Post by retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters as the basis for Someone You Should Know. You can read the articles here and here. "As Ralph Peters and Lt.-Col. Jennifer Menetrez, MD, the director of the Center for the Intrepid, were standing just outside the rehab gym, where amputees were sweating through an exercise class she said, “We consider our patients national treasures.” And they are. And that is why Sgt. Jose Martinez, Staff Sgt. William Corp, Lance Cpl. Chris Traxson, Gunnery Sgt. Blaine Scott, Sgt. Eric Morante and the entire staff of the Center for the Intrepid and the Warrior a

The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Thanks to Matt, Bruce is now on board and we are lucky to have him as part of the show. Tonight, Bruce told us about PFC Channing Moss, "Sgt. John Collier, CW3 Jorge Correa, SFC Daniel Brown and MAJ John Oh had never known or come into contact with a young infantryman named Channing Moss until that fateful day in March of 2006 when they and others would risk their lives to save his. It isn’t often you get such a vivid example of the professionalism, courage and brotherhood that the profession of arms engenders. They all knew what they were risking but they all risked it on the chance that they could save a life. Moss said it best when he said, “I knew it was love of country and brothers in arms” that drove their decisions to try a

  • Part 2: John Bolton on Pundit Review Radio

    19/11/2007 Duración: 11min

What a great pleasure and honor to welcome former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. John Bolton, to Pundit Review Radio. Ambassador Bolton joined us for wide ranging, thirty minute interview in which we covered a ton of ground. I have broken the interview into two segments. His excellent new book, Surrender is Not an Option, was the basis for our discussion Segment two is about 12 minutes long and we covered the sorry state of the Ivy League (Bolton has some great stories in the book about his experience as a conservative at Yale); the Israeli bombing of Syria, which Bolton thinks should be talked about more publicly and the rise of China's military while the world focuses its attention on Islamic fanatics. His excellent new book, Surrender is Not an Option, was the basis for our discussion This first segment runs about 18 minutes and we cover the sorry state of the U.N., the situation with Iran and North Korea, as well as the inter-agency friction between State, Defense and Justice. We also talked about the relationships between the principals at the top of these agencies, people such as Richard Armitage, Colin Powell and Condi Rice. It was very interesting to talk to him about the role of interpersonal relationships and how it can influence public policy. What is Pundit Review Radio? Gen. David Berger, 2nd Marine Division’s assistant division commander, who presented the Silver Star to Chiarini. “He would not let his fellow warriors down. He used himself to protect his comrades. • Michael Yon live from Baghdad

    04/11/2007 Duración: 48min

The one and only Michael Yon joined us for a lengthy conversation about the current situation in Iraq, and Afghanistan. Michael talked about the incredible changes he has seen in Iraq in the past six months. He’s in Baghdad and several times he talked about how quiet it was. He talked about the changing tactics of Al Qaeda, and how they are not working. We asked him to explain for the casual observer how we changed the game in Iraq. He talked at length about Gen. Petreaus and The Surge, but he emphasized that it is about much more than an increase in troops, it is a complete change in tactics, and it is working to an astounding degree. Michael was not as optimistic about Afghanistan, largely because of the poppy situation and his lack of faith in NATO to properly manage the mission. As always, we got the good, the bad and the ugly from Michael. Michael is a truly independent voice, fully supported by his readers. Please consider supporting his important work. • Patti Pattoin Bader on Valour IT

    04/11/2007 Duración: 12min

Patti Patton Bader, the founder of Soldiers Angels, joined Bruce McQuain from QandO along with Gregg and I to discuss the ongoing fundraising drive for Valour IT, an amazing project that provides voice activated laptops for our most severely injured soldiers and Marines. "As he began to recover, CPT Ziegenfuss wanted to return to writing his blog, but serious hand injuries hampered his typing. When a loyal and generous reader gave him a copy of the Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred software, other readers began to realize how important such software could be to CPT Ziegenfuss’ fellow wounded soldiers and started cast about for a way to get it to them. A fellow blogger (blog author) who writes under the pseudonym FbL contacted Captain Ziegenfuss and the two realized they shared a vision of providing laptops with voice-controlled software to wounded soldiers whose injuries prevented them from operating a standard computer. FbL contacted Soldiers Angels, who offered to help develop the project, and Project

  • Someone You Should Know: Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy

    15/10/2007 Duración: 11min

When Marcus Luttrell’s book Lone Survivor came out, Blackfive commented, "Finally, the story of one of the most harrowing battles in our nation’s history is being told." A key participant in that battle, Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, has posthumously received the nation’s highest award, the Medal of Honor. Incredibly, his hometown newspaper isn’t interested in his story. They, the New York Times, have yet to cover it. Bruce McQuain has put together a moving tribute to this American hero. RADM Slavonic has held a number of senior communications positions in the Navy, including Chief of Information overseeing all aspects of the Public Affairs Program and Director of Public Affairs, MultiNational Force - Iraq. RADM Slavonic was terrific talking about his experiences working with a media. He touched on many challenges such as setting up and executing the embed program, the volume of requests and the agenda of certain media outlets. • Bill Clinton's oral culture

    01/10/2007 Duración: 03min

Did you catch any of George “Stephy” Stephanopolous’ hard hitting interview with his former boss Bill Clinton this weekend? It was classic Clinton, and that’s no compliment. You don’t want to miss his laughable self-assessment of his presidency. The ego on this guy is just incredible. At one point Stephy asked him to rate the GOP field of candidates, because we all know that Clinton has their best interests at heart. Clinton’s choice for the upset, fellow former Gov. of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee. And why is that? Because he’s the best speaker the GOP has, he and Clinton grew up in an oral culture. Yep, that’s what he said, an oral culture. This clip is almost certainly headed to Hall of Fame for Least Self-Aware quote of all-time. What is Pundit Review Radio? • Retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters returns to Pundit Review Radio

    01/10/2007 Duración: 28min

One of our favorite guests, retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters joined us last night for a talk about Iraq. Ralph was just there and talked about the disconnect between what he saw on the ground and the what he is seeing take place in Washington DC. As usual, Ralph pulled no punches. He compared MoveOn.org not to a post-modern grass roots political group, but to a Soviet-style totalitarian organization that seeks to silence its critics. Ralph said he cut his teeth as an old Soviet hand, and says he has seen this movie before. Speaking of movies, Ralph talked about the rash of anti-=military movies, the fallacy of “I support the troops but not the mission” and so much more. Ralph saved his best for the modern day Democratic Party, which he said was led by Hillary Clinton, “the last man standing in the Democrat Party.” Finally, his comments about John Murtha were PRICELESS! All are members of G Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. In the case of all three, they had either responded to or were a member of a Marine platoon which had been ambushed and pinned down by insurgent fire. Between the three they received one Navy Cross and two Silver Stars." This is the story of Corporal Marco Martinez, Cpl. Timothy C. Tardif and SSG Adam Sikes. What is Pundit Review Radio? Pundit

Bruce McQuain from QandO joined us for another edition of Someone You Should Know, the untold, inspirations true stories of the men and women fighting for us around the world. The Someone You Should Know radio collaboration began as an extension of Matt Burden’s series at Blackfive. Thanks to Matt, Bruce is now on board and we are lucky to have him as part of the show. From Bruce’s Project Hero tribute at QandO, "Soldiers in transportation units aren’t supposed to be trigger-pullers. Soldiers in transportation units are supposed to drive trucks. But the war in Iraq has changed that dynamic, and it has placed units that normally operate behind friendly lines in the forefront of the conflict. PFC Jeremy Church’s story of heroism underlines that and demonstrates there’s nothing soft about our combat service support soldiers in Iraq." What is Pundit Review Radio? • Pat Dollard on Brian Depalma

    10/09/2007 Duración: 28min

We welcomed Pat Dollard back to the show this weekend. He gave us an update on Young Americans, his Iraq documentary that will be coming to a major cable channel very soon. That’s great news. You can check out over an hour of raw footage at PatDollard.com. My favorite part of the interview was when Pat took director Brian DePalma out to the woodshed for a well deserved verbal smackdown. Depalma just won Best Director at the Venice Film Festival for a so-called “pro-troop movie” is anything but. This was classic Pat Dollard, pulling no punches. Every time Pat is on the show we get memorable phone calls. This week, a Vietnam vet and a retired Marine from Maryland called in to thank Pat. The most memorable call we ever took was with Pat on the line, it was from Susan, an Army wife and mother.
