Debunking Persistent Myths About Hydraulic Fracturing08/11/2023 Duración: 10minThe other day, Heartland Institute Research Fellow for Environment and Energy Policy Linnea Lueken was a guest on the Ron Arquette Show on KRNS radio in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was invited on to talk about a new paper she wrote with Heartland's Tim Benson titled "Debunking Four Persistent Myths About Hydraulic Fracturing." As Linnea explains, "fracking," as it's commonly called, is the process of extracting natural gas and oil from several miles deep beneath the surface of the Earth. This revolutionary technique -- combined with horizontal drilling -- has made America a global energy leader again and created thousands of good-paying jobs. But opponents of fracking peddle myths about damage the process does to drinking water, causing air pollution, health problems, and even earthquakes.Heartland was happy to be able to bust these myths on Rod Arquette's show. Have a listen to this brief interview and learn more.Read the paper by Linnea Lueken and Tim Benson here: https://heartland.org/wp-content/uploads/2023

Removing Medicaid Loopholes to Improve Long-Term Health Care07/11/2023 Duración: 34minStephen Moses, one of the leading experts on long-term care in the U.S., says the nation can dramatically improve the quality of our health care system if we could get rid of the loopholes that allow nearly everyone to qualify for Medicaid coverage. The current system encourages few people save for long-term care because it is widely accepted that the government will pick up the tab. While this may be true, government control limits innovation and leads to worsening health outcomes. Moses, and the Paragon Institute released their latest report on the problems with long term care in the U.S., called Long-Term Care: The Solution. In October 2022, Moses and Paragon outlined the problems in Long-Term Care: The Problem. People prefer to live out their final years in the comfort of their own home but surprisingly, many of the elderly end up in institutional care. That is no accident. Medicaid is the largest payer of long-term care, and one reason is because you don’t have to be impoverished to qualify. This has

The Coming Collapse of Green Energy (and why EVs will never catch on) – In the Tank #42206/11/2023 Duración: 01h11minThe Heartland Institute’s Jim Lakely, Chris Talgo, Linnea Lueken, and special guest Jason Isaac of the Texas Public Policy Foundation present episode 422 of The In the Tank podcast. The Biden administration is continuing to mandate the electrification of everything while at the same time pulling offline the reliable and affordable power generation and transmission that would make it remotely possible. And this is a global delusion, not just a growing problem in the United States. Energy prices are skyrocketing and the “green energy” industry is now demanding even more government handouts – and permission to hike prices even more – to keep the scam going. But are we seeing signs that a rapid collapse of the scam is near? Investments in “alternative energy” companies took off in 2020, but all those gains are now gone. General Electric announced that it will post $1 billion in losses in its wind division. The S&P Global Clean Energy Index is down more than 30 percent this year and still dropping. Siemens, o

Private Choices & Public Hypocrisy: The Teachers Union President Controversy31/10/2023 Duración: 40minThe executive president of one of the nation’s largest teachers unions is under fire for the revelation that her eldest son attends a private school. Teachers unions universally oppose school choice programs that include private schools, and in doing so they deny education opportunities to children whose parents cannot afford to pay for them to leave the deteriorating public schools. This is an especially troubling problem in nearly all the nation’s big cities, where the public schools are plagued by poor student achievement, disorderly behavior in classrooms and other facilities, disastrous teaching methods based on ridiculous fads, and politicized curricula. Denisha Allen, a senior fellow at the American Federation for Children and founder of Black Minds Matter, joins School Reform News to discuss this problem.

Media Lies & a Fracturing Society - In The Tank #42126/10/2023 Duración: 01h20minThe Heartland Institute's Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, Justin Haskins, and Chris Talgo present episode 421 of the In The Tank Podcast. The New York Times' recent admission that they "relied too heavily on claims by Hamas" in regards to the Gaza hospital bombing is telling. It further reveals how broken our media system is. Worse, however, is the effect our media is having on social cohesion, leading to a fragmentation of society. This is contributing to a reality where the left and right are living in increasingly distant universes where common ground is exceedingly hard to find. What does this mean for our country and are there any solutions to the problem?PRIMARY TOPIC – Media Lies and a Fracturing Society Townhall - Americans’ Trust in Mass Media Sinks to Record Lowhttps://townhall.com/columnists/christalgo/2023/10/20/americans-trust-in-mass-media-sinks-to-record-low-n2630110 Politico - NYT admits error in Gaza hospital reporthttps://www.politico.com/news/2023/10/23/gaza-hospital-new-york-times-00122986 New

Hottest Summer Ever? NOT!21/10/2023 Duración: 01h06minOn Climate Change Roundtable, we take a stand against selective information portrayal, examining the contexts often omitted in mainstream climate discussions. This week, we’re covering the go-to media hottest ever narrative parroted after every summer. And, we'll have special guest Marc Morano on to discuss Mann's court appearance in the decade old Mann vs Steyn case this week. The media has been quick to dub this the 'hottest summer on record', but what does that truly mean in the vast timeline of Earth's climatic history? The referenced record composes the last 150 years, a misleading statement outright. And during this time, Earth is recovering from the Little Ice Age, further skewing the data. When you look at the Earth’s entire history, temperatures are well within norms. We discuss issues with the temperature record, misleading language, and highlight objective data.An Unexpected Ally in Michael Mann When figures like Michael Mann, known for the hockey stick chart, begin to voice concerns about the media

Woke Lawsuits Target Affordable Healthcare (Guest: Hal Frampton)18/10/2023 Duración: 12minJoin us as Hal Frampton, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, delves into a pivotal legal case in Michigan's Sixth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. He's representing Christian Healthcare Centers (CHC) and Sacred Heart Academy as they navigate the expanded civil rights protections in Michigan, which now encompass "gender" and "sexual preference." Both institutions could potentially be compelled to hire individuals who don't align with their religious principles. Established in 2018, the Grand Rapids-based Christian Healthcare Centers offers a unique, direct-pay primary care model that also caters to patients' spiritual well-being. While they serve all patients irrespective of sexual preference and identity, their hiring process requires employees to resonate with their religious beliefs and confirm this with a signed statement. Potentially, CHC could be sued for not hiring someone who does align with its mission. In this episode, Frampton addresses: 1. If there has been no fine or penalty yet against CH

Civilization vs Savagery — In the Tank Podcast #41912/10/2023 Duración: 01h14minThe unfathomable evil of Hamas’ attack on Israel last week was a reminder that the eternal human struggle between civilization and savagery never ends. This is going to be a tough podcast to get through, but it is important to not look away from the hate and the horrors inflicted by the enemies of civilization. Some say this barbarous act changes the Middle East forever. Maybe. But what does the fight in Israel say about the future of global liberty, which we’ve always assumed would remain ascendant forever? And what are we to make of the overtly pro-Hamas sentiment found in American streets, the halls of Congress, the heights of academia, and other redoubts of the ruling class?

Global Food Production vs. "Climate Catastrophe"06/10/2023 Duración: 01h07minThis week we look at agriculture, which seems to be constantly under attack as either being a contributor to climate change, or will suffer from predicted climate change catastrophic effects. But, the reality is far different. Despite a modest warming over the past century, agricultural yields continue to grow, setting several new record highs in the past decade. Further, despite media claims of effects from drought and heatwaves, crops continue to flourish.

What Will it Take to Destroy the Climate Narrative? - In The Tank #41805/10/2023 Duración: 01h18minThe Heartland Institute's Donald Kendal, Jim Lakely, Chris Talgo are joined by Linnea Lueken for episode 418 of the In The Tank Podcast. It seems like every day there is a new story that blows a hole in the climate narrative - a new study showing the impracticality of a 100% renewable grid, or an electric vehicle battery plant that requires coal power to function. We are told constantly by the media, politicians, and now even the Pope that we must change our lifestyle in an effort to combat climate change. Yet, most people don't care. These facts leave the ITT crew wondering: What would it take to finally destroy the climate narrative?OPENING CHIT CHAT AP News - Kevin McCarthy is out as speaker of the House. Was Obamacare Designed to Fail?03/10/2023 Duración: 26minIs it possible that Obamacare was intentionally set up to falter, leading frustrated Americans to implore the federal government to assume control of health care? Devon Herrick posits this theory, having recently explored the topic on the Goodman Health Blog. He highlights that without the crutch of subsidies, Obamacare is destined to collapse — a prediction echoed by many during the 2009-2010 debates surrounding the inception of the Affordable Care Act.Herrick delves into various topics, including the expansion of Medicaid, and the concept of Medicare for All — or as he terms it, “Medicaid for All.” Since the enactment of the ACA, 21 states have contemplated bills advocating for single-payer systems. However, the majority of these proposals were thwarted due to their exorbitant costs. For instance, Vermont terminated its program, while California’s initiative never came to fruition. Colorado’s electorate decisively rejected a similar proposition. Currently, Michigan is weighing the adoption of a single-payer
