  • Religious Liberty and the American Founding (Guest: Vincent Phillip Muñoz)

    13/04/2023 Duración: 01h07min

Heartland’s Tim Benson is joined by Vincent Phillip Muñoz, the Tocqueville Associate Professor of Political Science and Concurrent Associate Professor of Law at the University of Notre Dame, to discuss his new book, Religious Liberty and the American Founding: Natural Rights and the Original Meanings of the First Amendment Religion Clauses. They chat about how the Founding Fathers understood religious liberty to be an inalienable natural right, what we can and cannot determine about the original meanings of the Religion Clauses, and how a re-adoption of the Founders’ understanding would lead to a minimalist church-state jurisprudence delivering neither consistently conservative nor consistently liberal results.

  • Biden Issues ‘Toughest Ever’ Electric Vehicle Mandates – In the Tank Podcast #393

    13/04/2023 Duración: 01h01min

The Heartland Institute’s Jim Lakely, Justin Haskins, and Linnea Lueken Talgo present episode 393 of the In The Tank Podcast. President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency has just unveiled the “toughest ever” car emissions rules to force Americans to buy electric vehicles. This new mandate should be called the “Break America’s Electric Grid” rule. While we still have choices on what vehicles we buy, the Biden administration is trying to severely, and quickly, limit those choices. Can we go this fast into an EV future? And if we do, what are the real costs in terms of quality of life, freedom, and the environment.  We’ll also play clips from a devastating interview of Elon Musk on the BBC this week. He was challenged by the mid-wit newsreader about allowing “misinformation” and “hate speech” on Twitter, which serves as the world’s public square. Unfortunately, the BBC newsreader’s dismissive attitude about free speech – a foundational right in a free society – is troubling and shared by many in the upcomi

  • Trump Is Indicted, What’s Next?

    11/04/2023 Duración: 12min

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg did what the left has wanted for years, served Trump with an indictment. Under what charges? Bragg’s case states that Trump’s payment to Stormy Daniels in exchange for signing a non-disclosure agreement violated campaign financing laws, a flimsy argument at best.Chris Talgo, editorial director at The Heartland Institute, joins The Kristian Garic Show to discuss the indictment and what Americans can expect going forwards.

  • Can You Trust Your Hospital Doctor? (Guest: Twila Brase)

    04/04/2023 Duración: 17min

Can the doctor taking care of you in the hospital be trusted? In this episode of "Health Care News," Twila Brase, R.N., a leading voice on patient advocacy and privacy, explains how hospitals are employing "hospitalists" who are more accountable to the hospital corporation than to patients. While physicians cannot mistreat patients or neglect their care due to liability and licensing concerns, those employed by hospitals may have to follow standardized treatment protocols that may not be tailored to individual patients. Minnesota is considering a bipartisan "Trusted Doctor" bill, the first of its kind in the country, that allows patients to choose a trusted physician to treat them, regardless of whether the physician has hospital privileges. This issue arose during the pandemic when family physicians were prevented from treating hospitalized COVID-19 patients with drugs like Ivermectin, as hospitals followed other protocols. Outside physicians were even banned from treating their patients in hospitals from Ne

  • Money Talks: Biden's Bold Move to Fund Social Causes with Retirement Funds Says It All (Guest: Phil Kerpen)

    03/04/2023 Duración: 21min

On today’s episode of Environment & Climate News, H. Sterling Burnett and Phil Kerpen of American Commitment cover the ramifications of Biden’s actions regarding ESG and our financial system. In light of Biden's veto of the Congressional resolution aimed at blocking the Department of Labor's ESG rule, pension fund and portfolio managers now have the option to use their clients' money to support progressive social and political causes. The outcome of this veto, if unchanged, would release fund managers from their fiduciary duty to act solely in their clients' financial interests by prioritizing the promotion of climate change and board room equity over ensuring retirees have adequate funds for their livelihoods. Studies indicate that ESG managed funds and companies perform less favorably in the market compared to politically neutral companies that focus on profit-making.

  • Cancer Can Exposes the Health Care Shortcomings Under Obamacare

    30/03/2023 Duración: 26min

In this episode, host AnneMarie Schieber dives into the story of Robert "Bob" Fioretti, an influential figure in the world of Chicago and Illinois politics and cancer survivor. Bob's journey through the healthcare system in the last decade, specifically during treatment for throat cancer, sheds light on the challenges faced by many in the age of Obamacare. Despite having "Cadillac" health coverage, Bob was overwhelmed with over $100,000 in out-of-pocket costs for his treatment. He also explains how he was never formally notified of his cancer diagnosis and how the system made him feel like just a dollar sign. His book, "My Cancer Journey," details the many factors that he needed to consider for his quality of life while fighting cancer, and how ever rising bills impacted his mental health. Bob and AnneMarie discuss potential solutions, such as "center of excellence" insurance plans tailored specifically for cancer care. Tune in to hear an eye-opening account of navigating the healthcare system as a cancer pati

  • Silicon Valley Bank Was a Woke Bank, and it Was Wokeness That Brought it Down

    29/03/2023 Duración: 11min

The other day, Heartland Vice President Jim Lakely was a guest on The Mark Reardon Show on 97.1 FM Talk in St. Louis. I was invited on the show to talk about the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank and how much woke politics had to do with it.That bank and our federal regulators were a lot more interested in advancing left wing political goals, such as donating to Black Lives Matter, seeking investment equity, and fighting for "climate justice" -- whatever that is -- than it was hiring a risk assessment officer. Silicon Valley Bank had a Diversity Equity and Inclusion executive, but not a risk assessment officer for the last three quarters before it collapsed. So how much did woke politics have to do with it? Listen to this brief clip and find out.I was invited on the program because of this piece on Heartland.org, which was a rough transcript of something I said on Heartland's weekly In the Tank Podcast.https://heartland.org/opinion/silicon-valley-bank-was-a-woke-bank-and-wokeness-is-what-brought-it-down/

Bernstein, University Professorship chair at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, to discuss his new book, Classified: The Untold Story of Racial Classification in America. • We're Doomed... Again! IPCC and Media Jump the Shark

    24/03/2023 Duración: 01h41s

Earlier this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its AR6 climate change report. Expectedly, the report is defined by serial doomcasting and claims of impending catastrophe despite the growing mountain of failed predictions that are conveniently ignored. One of the most controversial claims made in the report is that anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main driver of temperature change. Real-world data has proven this false, yet it’s the main takeaway in each IPCC report.First released on Monday was the “Summary for Policymakers,” a section intended to guide policymaking decisions across the globe. The AR6 report continues to omit key information in favor of sensationalized claims that are easily refuted. For example, the 36-page summary doesn’t include a single mention of the logarithmic relationship between atmospheric CO2 concentrations and global temperature. Surely, policymakers should know that each unit of CO2 added to the atmosphere has a decreasing eff
