Jack's Silly Little Friendly Neighborhood Star Trek Discovery Podcast

The Drunk Star Wars Party rages on as Jack and Kregg follow up Caravan of Courage by immediately watching its superior sequel, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, and quickly discover any movie with Teek and Wilford Brimley in it can’t be that bad.  Along the way we’ll be offering up all kinds of half-baked theories about what’s going on that could be solved by actually paying attention to the movie, and delving deep into the culture and mythology of Endor.  Oh, and DIA-BEETUS.

Drunk Star Wars is going full steam ahead to the forest moon of Endor, as Jack introduces Kregg to the wonderful world of Ewok Adventures, and Kregg introduces Jack to the wonderful world of podcasting from the bathroom.  Like Mace and Cindel, they are at the beginning of a long and arduous journey.  Will there be a Wicket to save them, in this, the DRUNK COMMENTARY TRACK for Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure?  There’s only one way to find out!  Gunda!

Happy Life Day everyone!  Your gift is more Drunk Star Wars!... in commentary form.  We’re going into the deeper gnostic regions of the Star Wars cinematic universe as Jack guides Kregg to some Hi-Third-Oh unseen Star Wars films for him.  We’re kicking it off with something amazing; the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special!  What more can be said here, except to tell you that if you want to follow along with us, try to find a version titled “The Star Wars Christmas Special” (even though that’s not what’s it called; the War on Christmas started MUCH earlier than we imagined), which also has commercials from the original airing, which are honestly more fun to see than the Special itself.  It’s like a skyscraper made of hot dogs!

Barm’s back again for a trip, a Short Trek if you will, to Kaminar, to see the long awaited origin of Saru.  And now that we’ve seen it… well.  Just listen to the episode.  We’re talking about kelp, kelp farming, Kelpiens, Final Fantasy X villages, classic haphazard Discovery storytelling, Stargate, The Predator, JJ Abrams-style Mystery Boxes, and most importantly, Saru, his family, and his abduction at the hands of the ruthless, bloodthirsty Philippa Georgio.  Oh, and CGI Hummingbird Bug Things.

Join Jack and Barm on a Calypso cruise to the sora-hawk, Betty Boop and taco-filled future that awaits us some 1300 years from now.  While we marvel at the simple beauty of the show, we’re also talking short dicks and shorter Treks, Discovery’s love of holograms, the surprising ways this reminds them of TNG, some fantastic story ideas for the upcoming animated Trek show, and Calypso, man.  Like, what does it mean, what’s it all ABOUT, you know what we’re saying? 

There are two Short Treks out that we haven’t even addressed yet, but first, it’s vitally important that me and Kregg get drunk and do a commentary for this almost forgotten thirty-four year old sequel to a classic movie.  And you’ll find 2010 to be much improved with the addition of two drunk guys doing a lot of shitty Russian accents and making “that’s what she said” jokes over the film.  Starring Helen Mirren, John Lithgow, Roy Scheider, and Bob Fucking Balaban.

Jack and Kregg get drunk and do an audio commentary for 2001: A Space Odyssey, for some reason.  It’s a thing that doesn’t even have “star” anywhere in the title!  So fire up your copy of the film and prepare for the only thing that can improve on PERFECTION: two drunk idiots talking over it.  This summary can serve no further purpose;  Goodbye.

Jack is back with Barm again to talk about the third original novel based on the explosive new CBS All Access series, Star Trek: Discovery!  As with every other Star Trek: Discovery book, this one does not follow the crew of the Discovery.  Instead, it focuses on a tale as old of time: a Kelpien learning to overcome his fear.  In that vein, we’ll be talking about fear chubs, the ol’ Constitution Class, Goro & Mortal Kombat, Saurians, the original Saru make-up, Tholians, the Peliar-Zel and their role in TNG and DS9, and all the latest (as of three months ago) trailers and Season 2 news.  This is, without question, the single most exciting podcast you will ever hear.

Jack and Barm are finally back to talk about the literary EVENT of 2018, Dayton Ward’s Star Trek Discovery: Drastic Measures, and this is no Carlos prank this time.  It’s the real deal, and they are having a blast talking about a book that they don’t really care about very much, starring one immediately dead character from Discovery, and a mirror version of another who technically has never appeared in the show, on a crazy mission in the past to stop another character who appeared in one episode of a different Star Trek show.  But why waste time talking about the plot when we can really dig into Dayton Ward’s unusual writing style and his propensity for going into great detail about the hair and ethnicity of every new character we meet?  And then just talk about  Lord of the Rings for a while?  Ahh, it’s good to be back!
