Strange Grooves Podcast

On this week's episode, we make a visit to Local 107.3, the community/campus radio station in their hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick. The station has been around for a while, so it's no surprise that it has a pretty intense record collection. We sit down with Glen, Local 107.3's Station Manager and Shawn, the station's Spoken Word Coordinator. We talk about how vinyl has made a comeback on at the station and how more bands are sending in vinyl for their demos. We also talk about the resurgence of another old format, cassette tapes! Glen and Shawn share how artists reusing and recycling old tapes in some really creative ways. We also share our favourite albums for the station's collection, which we dug through before recording. Giving back, live session learning curves, KISS and Abba museums, and so much more on this episode of Strange Grooves!

In this very special bonus episode, Cherise is in Lowell, Massachusetts interviewing Evan Lunny. You may have heard of Evan in our previous episode with his fiance (and Cherise's cousin), Matt Letson. Evan is an avid and passionate music lover and vinyl collector. So when Cherise recently came down to visit on vacation, she was so excited to sit down with him, dig through his collection and talk music!

A couple weeks back we sat down with one of our favorite duo's, John and Lisa from Tomato/tomato. They are honestly just so freaking lovely. No matter where on the planet they are playing, they do more than just play for an audience and make great music. They are educators, huge community supporters, role models, fashion trendsetters. This month, we were at the Area 506 festival in Saint John, hosting a special "strange" lounge backstage for all the artists. It was a wicked weekend full of food, drinks, and great music. It was also a weekend full of awesome interviews that we will be rolling out over the next couple weeks. One of those interviews was with Brett Emmons, the frontman of The Glorious Sons. On this week's episode, we're hanging out on Cait's living floor with The Backstays. The Backstays are a pretty new Saint John band, but they are already making waves in New Brunswick's music community. They just recently released their first single "Dreams" and are gearing up to release their EP on August 2 at the Five and Dime! We dig into the interesting story of how the band got together (it involves Twitter stalking and taking a chance Kijiji Ads!); their creative process and, of course, their musical influences.
