When the experienced and much travelled sustainability designers, Frank O'Connor and Jude Sherry of Anois identified and mapped out over 300 derelict properties in Cork city that can be restored for much needed housing, creative and work spaces you start to take notice BUT you automatically come up with many reasons why it is not possible. Frank and Jude debunk not only these reasons (myths) but also use other cities they have personally experienced including Amsterdam and Bristol as examples where it does happen.       It is possible, but what does it take to make it happen? When I received the gift of a second hand book. that was written by a very special American friend of ours, Jane Maas who had since passed and I found a note in the book I was very curious. This treasured book, signed by the author came with a note from the store owner, Michelle Allen from the Bad Reputation Boutique, a vintage clothing store in New Jersey - this was bizarre!! I tracked the store and Michelle down in January of this year hoping to learn more and we had a really interesting chat about the book, her business and even Donald Trump as it was in the immediate aftermath of the Capital riots. On part two of this two part podcast I chat with Sharon Vaughn, one of the international songwriting greats. We chat about the ingredients for songwriting success, Garth Brooks performing in her honour when she was inducted in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, coming out of her genre and writing musicals and pop songs including three for this years Eurovision. My son Brendan and his girlfriend Ayla are now free having completed their two week quarantine period in the 'Holiday Inn' in Auckland! They talk about their last day in "captivity", the final part of that process and what it was like to enter a country where there is no Covid!! As part of our mini 'New Zealand' series I chat with my son Brendan Canty and his girlfriend, Ayla Amano on their very last day of quarantine in the Holiday Inn in Auckland. They describe the detailed routine, the testing, the food, the exercise, the room confinement, the transparency and the lengths that the government go to, ensuring that any trace of Covid is caught and does not enter the country, keeping their citizens healthy and safe and enjoying living normal lives. It was great to get the chance to talk to my friend, Joe Kavanagh the Lord Mayor of Cork City, 100 years after the Burning of Cork.
