Although Yacht Club Games has a single game under their name, many of the members have a history of creating games under company WayForward Technologies combining modern game-making with retro game sensibilities and homage. We were lucky enough to steal some time from David D’Angelo and Ian Flood of Yacht Club Games to discuss Shovel Knight, the effects of YouTube as advertisement, using Kickstarter as a funding platform and thoughts about Shovel Knight related spin-off games!

This week, Paul is underwhelmed but satisfied with Guardians of the Galaxy while Nathan cracks into his newly acquired Laser-Disc collection by watching Howard the Duck… and actually LIKES it?!? I don’t know but it’s obvious he doesn’t like The Sopranos: Road To Respect on the PlayStation 2 almost as much as Paul hates The Waste Land. Also, Paul retells a tale of burning toys in a fireplace.

Lucas Pope is a man of many talents; he has to be to fully realize his ideas for games. Although hitting the jackpot with Papers, Please, Mr. Pope has been making games and working in the industry for years. Between UI/menu design for the Uncharted series and a “dystopian document thriller”, Lucas loves working on video games and was good enough to share some insight with us!

Nathan watches a kid grow up in Boyhood while Paul plays more Dark Souls 2 in between waiting for ArcheAge queues. The Legend of Zelda games get talked through for a long while because Nathan jumps into Twilight Princess to find that it is actually quite good! Also, China can now legally sue Canada?!

A formal apology: it seems that our absence has created a rift in humanity that has resulted in racially charged riots, “gamers” being shitty people, “feminists” being equally as shitty people, celebrity pictures getting leaked and JonTron calling someone a name on twitter. We talk about all this craziness from the last month in one giant, 4-hour long fiesta… just look at how many tags there are at the bottom of this post! Also, what phallic foods are your favorites?

We celebrate Nathan’s birthday by talking about our feelings on The Terminal, Transsiberian and Deliver Us From Evil while Paul starts regaling the daunting task of learning EVE Online. As per usual, we discuss some local Calgary restaurants you should check out if you’re ever here and talk about how little we care about Comic Con San Diego. Also, Nathan admits to one of his deepest fears.

Nathan has been getting into some stuff he can get behind including Shovel Knight, Mario Kart 8 and True Detective (again). The moment i’m sure many of us have been waiting for… Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is finally out and Nathan has some thoughts about it! Also, some pretty flagrantly dismissive talk about some gross subject matter!

A new Transformers movie brings ire to Nathan and we learn what we look for when a Steam sale hits. Luckily, some Death Note and rewatching Panty & Stocking With Garterbelt keeps the blues away! Also, House of Cards might be the most well written show on TV? (It kind of has to be).

Hey Vern! This week Nathan completes his homework and talks about Mad City after getting confused about Neon Genesis Evangelion’s finale and pissing Paul off with descriptions of it. Also, who remembers Ernest movies?!

Nathan still is without internet, so because of this the whole podcast is recorded old school over THE PHONE! Where most podcasts might call this a lack of sound quality, we like to present you with a new “nostalgic feature”. Okay, we apologize if it’s hard to listen to because of this but please rest assured there is some good stuff here. Nathan sees that new Tom Cruise flick Edge Of Tomorrow and plans to blow up the internet after watching Transcendence. On the other hand, Paul enjoys a futuristic setting in Watch Dogs while simultaneously getting sick of it! Also, Catholic school indoctrination stories, why E3 isn’t discussed in this episode and how LAIR killed Paul’s gaming soul.

This week, Nathan packs up for a move and, in turn, has watched a bundle of movie not limited to but including Paycheck, Death Sentence, Olympus Has Fallen and 2012. But, it isn’t all “old-skool” as he also went to see XMen: Days Of Future Past. Paul, on the other hand, finally beats Dark Souls 2, plays a healthy amount of Wolfenstein: The New Order, Transistor and also has some first impressions on Watch Dogs (WITH NO “_” BETWEEN THE WORDS!). Also, is Lootcrate worth your time/money? Paul tells all!

Godzilla roars back into our hearts with the new 2014 release. How was it? Well, we talk a solid hour or so of it (including what some might call spoilers but, c’mon, you aren’t going to a Godzilla movie for “story”, right?). Transistor was released literally 12 hours before recording this so Nathan has a few opinions on it as well as some thoughts on Maximum Overdrive and World War Z. Paul is getting closer to finishing Dark Souls 2 and talks a bit about The International 4 (eSports, new hotness). Also, Google possibly buys Twitch or something. Does it matter? We have a few thoughts!

This week, Paul and Nathan are delighted to invite community favorite co-host and friend Carlos (AKA handsomefatman) of Two Fat Guys Talk Games back to talk some mess about Dragon’s Dogma, Superman movies and South Park. Nathan spends a whole bunch of time watching television stuff as he continues through The Sopranos and Mad Men while also trying to see what’s so good with Asura’s Wrath after revisiting 12 Angry Men and The Verdict. Paul is thoroughly happy with indie studio Mimimi Productions’ The Last Tinker: City of Color, less than impressed with Bound By Flame and logging his time into Dark Souls 2 finally! Also, we talk about Sound Man, the best Mega Man robot master boss!

Took a week off to collect our thoughts and coming back with the sickness (oooooh-wah-ah-ah-ah) and a 4.5 hour podcast! Site problems be damned, nothing will stop the podcast! Nathan visits an expo before getting grumpy about Amazing Spider-Man 2 while Paul gets a Wii U primarily for ZombiU and NES Remix 2. Into The Dark is a piece of garbage game (we explain why… just listen) and Sidney Lumet hated “teamsters”. Paul bores Nathan with an in-depth talk about WildStar (and MMOs in general) and Archeblade! Also, would you eat scorpions on pizza?!

Easter happened. Nathan watched Oculus, Paul watched a bunch of South Park and the two discuss how Plan Canada representatives have turned them into horrible people. Also, Nathan finds the quietest room in the world.

Throat problems and late night recordings lead Paul and Nathan to put on their bedroom voices and recount tales of becoming a serial killer in Harvester, surviving off the wasteland in Nether and finding the origins of “fahgettaboudit” from Donnie Brasco. Also, the merits of contemporary art and YouTube bait are discussed.

Taking it back old-skool… kind of. We go offline again to try to prevent some audio glitches and come out relatively successful! We’re also successful in finding out Who’s Coming To Dinner, what life might be like in Brazil and why Rushmore isn’t that great. Also, who would Nathan erase from existence?

This week, Paul plays Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z and Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls while Nathan spends time as a goat in Escape Goat 2 and does a better “Snake” voice than Keifer Sutherland in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. Also, just how Swedish does one have to be to get internet famous?

Nathan does his best Kiefer Sutherland impression after playing Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes while Paul tries desperately to stay alive in post-apocalyptic Russia playing the DayZ standalone alpha build. Jake Gyllenhaal does a good job weirding Nathan out in Enemy while the DOTA 2 documentary Free To Play scratches the same itch for Paul as Indie Game: The Movie. Also, just how bad can Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z be… right?

Nathan gets enthralled with Remember Us while Paul dives back into the World of Warcraft and finally starts Star Wars: The Old Republic. Also, the Pixel Response Pokemon Classic v2.0 is over and we would love to thank all our contestants!
