Episode 71: The Reality About Comparison and Identity
25/07/2019 Duración: 15minComparison and identity are topics that are important for us as Christians, as business owners and as women. We're going to dig into the Bible and see what it says about identity and how we can use our identity in Christ to remind ourselves who we are. This show is a continuation of show number 69, Remember Your Identity. If you haven't listened to it, I invite you to go listen now. One of the things I wrote in my devotional book, Created for This, is how powerful God's love is for you. He calls you his daughter and we can find our identity deeply rooted in him. Psalm 139:13-16 says, "For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one

Episode 69: Remember Your Identity
11/07/2019 Duración: 16minIdentity is something that, as I've been learning more about and dwelling on identity in Christ, I've seen how important it is in the way I do everything. It impacts your business, your household, how you are with your friends and more. Let's dive into scripture. Galatians 3 - when we put on Christ, we are in Christ. When we become a Christian, it changes everything. Sanctification - we become more like Christ, we put on his identity. It defines who you are, your purpose and your calling. As we think about our identity, I'm going to read you some verses that give me an idea of who I am in Christ, because when we take that step to become a Christian, we may not see an immediate change, it may take time, but change happens. The fruits of the Spirit develop over time. I've become more patient since I was a little kid, and I accepted Christ into my life when I was eight. It's through different things and different life experiences. Romans 1:5-6 says, "Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the

If you're a veteran, you can use https://www.veteranscrisisline.net/. My story takes us back to when I was in the Navy. We were living on the island of Oahu. I was having a really hard time processing the fact that I was so far away from my family, I felt super alone and that my leadership wasn't doing a great job getting us/me acclimated to the Navy command. A command is the headquarters for those Sailors or Soldiers assigned to that area. I felt like the command was not supportive of the Sailors and there was not good moral in the command. There have been a lot of mental health issues in the military on Oahu because of different things.

Episode 67: You Can Say Yes to Rest
20/06/2019 Duración: 14minI'm giving you permission to rest. Yes, you can rest. There are so many people giving us permission to hustle and work really, really hard. I love my work and I love working, but I also feel like we need to be resting. It's not something a lot of people talk about, it's not something we get permission to do very often. So, if you need permission, here it is. Mark 4:35-40 "That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!”Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” There are many stories in t

Episode 65: Your Body is a Temple
06/06/2019 Duración: 20minI want to share with you something that's so important to us as Christian and business owners. This is not to add on another layer of things we should be doing. This is important. Please listen to this and don't feel guilty for what you are not doing. As Christians, our bodies are the temple of God. When we become Christians, that's what the Bible says. Therefore, we should take care of ourselves. It's not a trivial thing that people talk about being healthy and taking care of ourselves. Get Moving. As business owners, I know it's hard to take care of ourselves. It's hard for me to find time to prioritize walking two miles. For me, the biggest driver in taking care of myself is being there with my for my kids and my family. I want to be able to run with them and not to have my back issues. I have chronic back pain from being in the military, and knee and shoulder problems. I also know that if I don't keep moving, I'm going to have a harder time. Thankfully, we have a treadmill in our basement. If it weren't f

Episode 63: Using Your Platform for God's Glory
23/05/2019 Duración: 14minWe have been given our platforms by God, to be used for his glory. Your social media platform, your stage platform, your relationships - they all are meant for God's glory. So how do we do this? Listen to this episode for more thoughts and how-tos. Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." To listen to my podcast on being rooted in Jesus, click here.

Episode 62: Creating a Better Life Through Bags with Rebecca Smith
16/05/2019 Duración: 30minBetter Life Bags started when Rebecca made herself a diaper bag. When friends and family prompted her to start making them to sell, she started an Etsy shop. She loved giving part of the proceeds of the bags she sold to a company called Kiva loans which allows you to pick a woman to sponsor in a 3rd world company through a microloan. She would add the picture of the woman she was sponsoring to the bag when she sent it to the purchaser so they could learn about the woman who was being sponsored through their bag. Rebecca and her family moved to Hamtramck, MI where there's a large migrant population. When she started to get too many orders, she looked around the neighborhood and figured out who it was that she would be able to hire. She hired her friend Nadia who was from Yemen. Because of that work, her friend was able to buy bunk beds for her girls. The company now has 15 employees who make Better Life Bags. Rebecca and I chat about how the business has grown and developed, how she shares her faith with the w
