Mac East 2nd Floor Studios Presents Submersion

In Episode LXI the crew has docked the submersible, Merve, on the USS Wetfloater and are ready to continue their journey with full length movies. We had to ease back into things and with having just done Crash Dive and Crash Dive 2 the crew now tackles Crash Dive! Not the same Crash Dive as our earlier episode, this Crash Dive is from 1943 as we begin our classic movie cycle. A PT Boat hotshot is told he will be going aboard a US Submarine because there is one desparartely in need of an XO. Although the sub totally sucks because it’s no PT Boat, he’ll have to make due. On leave for the weekend he meets a woman whom he begins stalking, turns out that it’s the same woman his Captain is planning on marrying. Sparks will fly and Nazis will die in this classic submarine movie. In Episode LX the crew loved doing a submersible pod so much last week that they continue on with another one. This week dive deeper into The Simpsons episode Simpson Tide in which Homer joins the Navy and is given command of a nuclear submarine. In Episode LIX the crew takes a step back and questions their entire existence after having watched so many bad films in a row. After much deliberation they decide that it’s time for a Submersible Pod! The crew covers an episode of Street Sharks, the cartoon from the 90’s in which people are transformed into human/shark hybrids and can save the world. In Episode LVIII the crew continues on their bad movie cycle journey with Crash Dive 2 or is it Counter Measures? Michael Dudikoff reprises his role from Crash Dive with a completely different character but don’t worry he’s the same Dudikoff we’ve come to expect. Russian terrorists are escorted by the US Navy while leaving a port in Croatia for Syria, and attempt to launch missiles at Russia. James Marlowe offers an electrifying performance as the US Ambassador while he tries to figure out what’s going. Michael Dudikoff is the star and hero of a submarine film where he is called upon to stop Middle Eastern terrorists from Yugoslavia from launching a nuclear missile at the United States. In Episode LVI the crew continues on their action movie cycle with none other than world renowned martial art god Steven Seagal in Submerged, not to be confused with our earlier episode Submerged starring Sam Neill. Seagal is the world’s top assassin and is release from prison to stop an evil genius from using mind control techniques to kill US Ambassadors and other political leaders in Paraguay. He’ll also attempt an escape with his old crew on a submarine, which may or may not have anything to do with the story. In Episode LV the crew moves on to a new cycle, however this movie smells strangely of the most recent cycle. It’s on to a bad movie cycle and with Sub Down, we’re trapped on the ocean floor one more time. Stephen Baldwin is some sort of genius and has designed a submersible that will be tested aboard a US Navy Submarine. A game of chicken with a Russian sub goes horribly wrong and Baldwin and the entire crew are trapped on the bottom of the ocean floor under thick ice in the arctic. In Episode LIV the crew continues their journey of finding films in which our submarine is Trapped! A routine training exercise goes completely haywire and the Squalas is trapped on the bottom of the ocean floor. It’ll be up to Swede Momsen, played by Sam Neill, to rescue the crew. The second film we cover is Morning Departure, originally a stage play it was turned into a film and stars Johns Mills and Richard Attenborough. In Episode LI the crew starts a new series of films, Trapped! All submarines/crew are trapped on the ocean floor and it’ll be up to some real heroes to save the day. The cycle kicks off with the 1978 drama Gray Lady Down, starring Charlton Heston and karate legend, David Carradine. When the sub that Heston is in command of is struck by a surface ship the only hope for survival is Carradine’s experimental submersible the Snark, to go in and save the day. In Episode L the crew celebrates the gold anniversary of episodes with Goldmember! The movie in the Austin Powers franchise features a submarine base created by Dr. Evil. The 2002 comedy was directed by Jay Roach and stars Mike Meyers, Beyonce, Seth Green, Michael York, Robert Wagner, Mindy Sterling, Verne Troyer, Michael Caine, and Fred Savage. Austin will need to travel back to the 70s to save his father from the gold obsessed Goldmember. Meanwhile, Dr. Evil has a plan to use Goldmember to pull a golden asteroid into the Earth destroying the polar ice caps. In Episode XLIX the crew continues into the fourth week of 2018 In Review with the spring release, Submergence. Directed by Wim Wenders, this artistic film stars James McAvoy and Alicia Vikander. Our leading actress and actor meet on vacation and begin to fall in love. Work will take them their separate ways. Danielle (Vikander) must head north of Iceland to make a scientific discovery aboard a submersible while James (McAvoy) heads to Somalia to stop the flow of bombs into Europe. Directed by James Wan, this huge blockbuster stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Temuera Morrison. A lighthouse keeper falls in love with the queen of Atlantis and they have a half blood son, Arthur. It’ll be up to Arthur to claim his rightful place as king of Atlantis and stop his younger brother Orm from waging war on the surface dwellers #us. There are also submarines involved in this. A billionaire comes aboard his marine biology research base to witness the discovery of a new deepest point on the oceans floor. Things are going well until The Meg decides it’s time to eat the new invaders. In Episode XLVI the crew sails on into the sunset after what is commonly referred to as one of the greatest sub movies. What now? Will they stop, nay… They must go on. In Episode XLV the crew continues closes out Cold War Movie Month with the most popular sub movie of them all. We dive deeper into the 1990 adaptation of Tom Clancy’s The Hunt For Red October. The Academy Award winning film was directed by John McTiernan and stars Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Scott Glenn, Sam Neill, James Earl Jones, Tim Curry, Courtney B. Vance, and Stellan Skarsgård. Captain Marko Ramius is given command of the Red October, a new submarine with a silent propulsion system. He plans to take his boat and defect to the United States. He lets his superiors know of his intentions after his journey is underway and the chase is on. The Americans believe that the Red October is a first strike weapon and headed straight for the United States. CIA analyst Jack Ryan lays it all on the line because he knows that Ramius is going to Defect. The Academy Award Nominated film was directed by Lewis Gilbert and stars Roger Moore, Barbara Bach, Curd Jurgens, Richard Kiel, & Caroline Munro. During the Cold War, a madman is stealing submarines with nuclear missiles on board in an attempt to end the world. It’ll be up to James Bond and his new Russian counterpart XXX to put an end to the madness. During the Cold War, a Soviet submarine runs aground on a sandbar near an island off the New England coast. Locals quickly believe that the Russian invasion has begun and start to take up arms in attempts to stop the hostile takeover. In Episode XLII the crew begins to navigate the waters of Cold War Movie Month and dive deeper into the 1965 classic The Bedford Incident starring Richard Widmark, Sidney Poitier, James MacArthur, Martin Balsam, and Wally Cox. The film is directed by James B Harris, who’s also directed the instant smash hit Cop starring James Woods. During the Cold War, a US destroyer stalks the Soviet submarine Big Red off the coast of Greenland. We’ll see if our crew is able to successfully track the submarine and force it come out of hiding.
