Tournament Angler Melinda Mize is no stranger to the sport. Both her parents were avid anglers and introduced her to tournament fishing at the young age of 7. She took to it like a fish to water, and it's pretty much been game on ever since. She currently fishes the BFL's, the Toyota Series, Bass Opens, and any local tournaments she can work into her busy schedule. Now with 2 daughters of her own, Melinda is excited to see how they have taken to the sport as well. This week I'm excited to introduce you to someone who only started fishing in the last couple of years, but she's all in. @fancypantsfishing is her Facebook and Instagram handle (go give her a follow!). Her actual name is Kat Jones, and I was thrilled to have the chance to meet her in person while we were down at Logan Martin for the LBAA Classic.  It's hard to beat the passion of someone who is new to the sport and has a love for it like Kat clearly does. She's even toying with the idea of trying out an LBAA event or 2 next year as a Co-Angler! Kat came to a couple of our weigh-ins during the tournament and I think the ladies may have made a bit of an impression. Welcome to a milestone! The 200th episode of The Woman Angler & Adventurer podcast. Since this show launched back in 2018, we've had only a few West Coast anglers on the show- not nearly enough. So I can't think of a better way to celebrate our 200th episode with another West Cost angler- Clara Ricabal! Clara's origins are from Cuba, so she's bi-lingual and part of Takemefishing.org's Women Making Waves campaign, as well as their Vamos A Pescar initiative to help get more women and minorities involved in the sport of fishing.  This episode is being released as both a video and an audio episode via our normal major podcast platforms. I recently had the opportunity to do a tour of the St. Croix Rods headquarters in Park Falls, WI. I have to say, if you're into fishing and you ever have the opportunity to do this free tour, I highly recommend you do it! The manufacturing process of a fishing rod is unbelievable. At St. Croix, they even make their own blanks, and to able to witness that process alone is phenomenal.  Before that, I had the opportunity to meet and chat with Savannah Stenlund, the new Angler Engagement Coordinator with the company. Last week was iCast week down in Orlando, FL. Many of us have been chomping at the bit to get back to business, see new products, network with new friends as well as get reconnected in person with some old ones.  Before the big week officially kicked off, Captain Debbie Hanson, Gabriella MaGrath and myself has a little Women Making Waves breakout session to go visit a local waterway outside of Orlando. Captain Debbie got the inside scoop from one of her friends (Jim Sweatman) who works for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission on a great place we could rent a few kayaks, get out on the lake and have a good chance landing some largemouth bass.  We chose to hit up the Winter Park Chain, and the lake we fished was super clear as it was spring-fed. We rented from a great guy who runs Peace of Mind Kayak Tours. It was a short paddle and through a canal to get to the lake we wanted to target. There was a lot of grass, so Texas-rigged Senkos seemed to be a good bet. It wasn't long before Gabriella McGrath and I w

We had such a fantastic time fishing with Captain Mark Cahlik with Mark1 Sportfishing and Bays Edge Resort up on Lake Erie out of Port Clinton, OH a few weeks ago that he invited us back up to have a go at smallmouth bass this time around. What a treat that was! These smallmouth on Lake Erie are no joke. We caught a bunch of chunks that meant business and we had an absolute ball! The same crew got back together- Brittany Howard, Tiffany Minton, myself, and Dana Scott. We all caught a bunch of fish- and not just smallmouth, we landed multiple species including Smallmouth, Walleye, Sheepshead, Perch and Catfish. The majority of the catches however were Smallmouth and Walleye. Captain Mark definitely put us on 'em! Find out how in this episode as we tell all, despite the cliches about Put-in-Bay! Those that follow this podcast also know I do a weekly Monday Night Live Series called The Women's World of Fishing Monday Night Takeover on YouTube and other social media platforms with fellow angler Barbara Harris. On this week's episode of the show, I have the opportunity to feature one of the most respected anglers that fishes the Women's Pro Bass Tour, Lady Bass Anglers Association Tournament Trail: Alisa Johnson. Alisa has been fishing with the LBAA for 9 years now. She started out at the back of the boat and got to fish with a lot of the Pros that she now competes against as a boater. She learned a lot from these ladies over the years and it's evident that she's putting the knowledge she gained to great use. She's a consistent angler and I'm so excited for you all to get the chance to meet her as we chatted backstage right before she had to weigh in at the Cane River Wildcard tournament on Day 2. It was a hot and humid grind, but we all survived and I'm bringing you a quick recap of my experience on this week's episode! I also had a couple conversations from backstage during weight-in on Day 2 with a couple other anglers, Noella Mclaurin and Shannon Wells to share a little bit about their experience. While it didn't end well at all for me, I am happy to say I earned enough AOY points throughout the season to qualify to fish The Classic on Logan Martin in September! That was one of my major goals this season, and with it being my 1st as a boater and all the challenges I had to overcome throughout the year, I am very happy to have made it. How is it June already and this is the 1st time we've had the opportunity to take the Lance Truck Camper Mobile Podcast Studio AND the Key West 230 Bay Reef to a Women's Pro Bass Tour Tournament? We've been building and building for this moment since last fall and the time has FINALLY come.  Just in time for the Wildcard Tournament on Cane River in Natchitoches, LA. This is the final event of the year before the Fall Classic on Logan Martin in Alabama...will I qualify? To put it out into the Universe, I already set up our reservation at an RV park for that event after learning my lesson this year with the craziness of the industry. This was one of the major reasons this is the 1st time this pair is traveling together to a tournament. This week I'm excited to welcome Brittany Howard back to the podcast almost 50 episodes later (if you missed the last one, check it out here!) This time we took a trip up to Lake Erie to cast for walleye with Captain Mark Cahlik from Mark1 Sportfishing in Port Clinton, OH. We stayed at the beautiful Bays Edge Resort where I stayed when I came up for a girls trolling trip in the fall. The accommodations were great as usual. We brought a couple other ladies along and we all had a blast...so much fun in fact we are talking about coming back up in July for smallmouth! The weather Day 1 wasn't the greatest, but we still caught some nice fish. Day 2 totally made up for it. We had an absolute blast and we recap the entire experience on this week's episode!
