Beatnik Turtle's Encore Song Of The Day

Well? Do you have any ideas? It needs a name.

The sounds at the end were recorded at the corner of Gilbert and Burlington in Iowa City. It's Jason and Eric Elmer talking while the microphone dangled out the apartment window.

In honor of April 20th...420...a number which has something to do with the subject of the song (although there's a lot of debate on our end as to why this number is associated with it). Beatnik Lawyer says: Be warned! This song is extremely catchy and you're likely to start singing it aloud at odd times without really knowing it. This usually isn't too much of a problem except that, with this song, it's tagged "explicit" thanks to a certain ubiquitous four letter word that's sung throughout (we'll let you guess as to what that four letter word is). So, we made a clean version available as well (it's today's bonus song) but it's just about as catchy. Anyway, don't say you haven't been warned.

Based on actual events at a party Beatnik Turtle once perfromed at. The events alluded to are also one of the reasons why Beatnik Turtle never plays parties anymore.

Sometimes life corrects your faults and deficiencies on their own. And, after awhile, you find yourself becoming less unique and more and more...average.

This is another sweet one from Holmes. He laid down the guitar and vocals in one session and we built it up from there.

This goofy jingle was created for a great short film called "Made From Scratch."

Pizza Wheel - a small, cardboard-tasting, personal pan pizza dished out at schools and universities across the US. Usually eaten instead of whatever the healthy meal for that day was.

Even vegetarians like bacon and eggs.

John Lisiecki wrote this great tune for and WITH his 2 year old son.

Matt Scholtka told us about his friend Pete that had all kinds of food allergies. Nevertheless, he always ate food that he shouldn't have which always caused him to run off to the bathroom. He did this without fail, so they started placing bets on what he'd eat. Unfortunately for Pete, Matt mentioned this story to Jason, who subsequently wrote a song about it.

Nothing beats a guy with a mustache - unless that guy also has a ponytail! Everyone loves a guy with a "chick whip."

This one came about from an idea for a sketch that we had with some theater friends of ours. It became a song instead. As it is, we think it belongs in a musical. Something like Jesus: The Musical. If anyone writes it, please give us a call so we have a place for the song.

This is a strange, alternate version of a song off The Cheapass Album. The one on the album completely rocks out in a Cars-like way. This one, uh, doesn't.

Since the site launched, this has been the song that appears when you get a "404 Error." But don't panic - this isn't a real 404 Error. At least, we don't think it is...this time.

Most of Beatnik Turtle has some form of ADD and - HEY, look, a monkey!

This is another one we wrote and recorded in February and so became part of our Record Production Month album, "All In A Day's Work." Jason's Mom still uses an Apple IIe and prints to a dot matrix Imagewriter II at her home office. The home office is just a room away from the studio and we couldn't resist the urge to mic the old machines and add them into the song.

Because so many of us work in office settings, we tend to write about it. Today's song got a whole new remix for The Song of the Day, has been played live at several Beatnik Turtle shows, and appears on the Live Album with lots of horns set to a Mozambique beat. Watch for a full re-recording on a future Beatnik Turtle album!
