This week, we launch into Chapter 5 of the Gospel of Luke. There is so much to learn from the disciples in their response to Jesus and his seemingly strange requests. What, after all, did He know about fishing? He was a carpenter’s son. Did He actually believe that He was the master of everything? Let’s be honest, you won’t faithfully spend time with someone you don’t think possesses the answers to everything, knows the future, and has the power to move heaven and earth for you. From this semon we will see that “the boys” got it - they really got it! Their response - as the Mastercard commercial goes - was “priceless.” Luke 5:1-11

As His apprentices, we are called to the same engagement with God the Father. Believe me, I struggle as many of you do. Good things get in the way of the perfect things. I want to do better, and I want to be more in tune with the Father's desired activities in my life. I don't want to spin my wheels in an ever increasing "Fatherless vacuum." That's our task this week. Luke 4:42-44 1. What activity pulls you away from your alone time with God? 2. When you think back to your intimate times with God, did you find yourself emotionally balanced? 3. Why do you think it is so hard to be consistent with your alone time with God? 4. Senior Pastor Jeffrey Cranford continues his study of the Gospel of Luke by finishing the two displays of Jesus’ encounters with the realms of the seen and the unseen. Last week, he had focused on the demonic, and now his focus will be the physical realm by healing people. This will help you see what amazing authority Jesus has over all areas of our lives. Luke 4:31-44

This week, we continue the study of the Gospel of Luke. In addition to the demonstration of power over the unseen, we also explore the implications of Jesus taking authority over the physical realm by healing people. As we discussed last week, people were amazed by the authority of His teaching precisely because He was backing it up with God-like authority over the realms of both the seen and unseen. Are you persuaded that Jesus has this kind of authority? Luke 4:31-44 1. Why was Jesus performing miracles? Why not just tell people He was there to save them? 2. Do you think most people were more fascinated with the displays of power or Jesus Himself? 3. Are you more intrigued with the power of the kingdom or a relationship with Jesus? 4. Do you now understand that proclaiming liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners applies to this day?

Jesus had made some sobering claims about himself and some rather confrontational claims about the Jewish nation as well. How would he follow this up? What was the encore to something as dramatic as that? For goodness sake, they tried to throw him off of a cliff! The answer is simple; he began to do exactly what he had promised - proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisoners. Again, the people were all amazed. How does that apply to us in the 21st century? Luke 4:31-44 1. What "works of the devil" has Jesus destroyed in your life? 2. Have you ever had a physical healing? 3. Think about your own first encounter with Jesus. Was it a result of someone else in your life and the interaction they were having with Jesus? 4. Do you often go away to pray? If not, why not? 5. Do you have a sense of GO when you talk to God? Does he ever put it on your heart to share your faith?

As Paul Harvey would say, are you ready to hear "the rest of the story?" Last week, we observed the extraordinary moment when Jesus unrolled the scroll in the synagogue in Nazareth, read a prophecy about the coming messiah written by Isaiah 700 years prior, and simply said, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing." Wow! Did you catch that? Jesus was leaving no room for speculation about who He was claiming to be. This simple act has reverberated down through the last 2,000 years and is still impacting millions of people each year. Jesus is "the man." Actually, Jesus is the God-man. Luke 4: 22-30

Can you believe it? We are now going to continue our walk through the Gospel of Luke. I know that using four weeks to take a deep dive into our strategies to battle temptation might have "tempted" you to tune out, but we have actually had a large response from many of you, saying that it was very helpful and gave you new tools to combat the struggles between your ears. Luke 4:14-15 1. Have you ever thought of the Scripture as being "progressively unveiled?" 2. If so, has it dawned on you that you know more than almost any Biblical figure ever knew about God's plans? 3. Have you been a recipient of Isaiah's prophecy in chapter 61? If so, how would you describe your transformation?

It's that time of year when many families put up Christmas trees in their homes as part of our celebration of the season. But what does the Christmas Tree mean to you? It is important that during turbulent times that we speak biblical truth out of love (Ephesians 4:15), and it is imperative that we pray for our leaders - whether we agree with their leadership or not (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Is your confidence increasing as you learn to use the Word to battle these temptations? 4. What partnerships have you made in the past that you now see as unprofitable?

With this sermon we move on to chapter four and investigate the temptations of Jesus in the wilderness. These three temptations represent the three primary categories of all temptations. All of us are tempted in these areas. Without a strong weapon to stand against these assaults on our personhood, we can easily succumb to years of pain and despair in the relentless pursuit of that Satanic whisper in our ears. Pastor Jeffrey shares with you some scriptural strategies to overcome these attacks. Luke 4:1-13 1. Are you surprised that it was the Holy Spirit that led Jesus into the wilderness? Can you see that this is a journey we all must take? 2. Of the three categories of temptations, which category do you find to be your weak spot? 3. Do you have a scripture or multiple scriptures that help you counter this attack? 4. With respect to the AIM system, would you be able to give great detail about your walk in the kingdom?

This week, we are diving deep on this enigmatic character affectionately referred to as John the Baptist. Many of you know that John and his forerunning ministry have been a big area of study for me through the years. Though I have a lot to say about this amazing Biblical figure, I will constrain myself and offer up some insights that will help you live right here in the 21st century. As you can tell, I love John and understanding his role will make you a more effective Gospel advocate. It may not sound too exciting, but trust me when I say, you are in for some fun! Questions to ponder: 1. Had you ever understood John as being the "best of the best"? 2. What are the several things John's ministry represented? 3. How might you use John's ministry to help a friend see their plight without Jesus? 4. Does it give you confidence to know that John's life was predicted hundreds of years in advance? 5. Do you realize that God has a specific role for you to play in the earth, and it was written before your birth? 6. D

We continue our march through the Gospel of Luke by exploring some details in Luke's Gospel that we don't want to escape your attention. It brings up some deep and profound truths about the nature of Jesus. Was He God, or man, or both? Was becoming a man, in some unique way, helping us to understand our own journey through this life? This week, we will continue our march through the Gospel of Luke. The message is entitled, “The Expectant Ones.” While Elizabeth and Mary are both expecting in the story, Senior Pastor Jeffrey Cranford will be referring to a type of expectancy that is spiritual. Have you ever thought about whom God favors? The angel Gabriel greets Mary with, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.” Today, we ask the question, “Why?” Who are the favored ones on the earth? Does that grab you? This message will encourage you and provoke you to a new dimension of faith. Can’t wait to be with you!

This week, we are going to continue our journey through the Gospel of Luke. We hope last week reinforced your belief that the Bible is an utterly reliable historical source of life for the world. In this teaching, we are going to explore the spectacular fulfillment of the Old Testament in the birth of John the Baptist. Whether you realize it or not, John was ushering in a new kingdom and signifying the end of an entire way of relating to the Creator. His birth was no less spectacular. Strange, miraculous, and somewhat disturbing could all be used in describing the circumstances surrounding his birth. Are you ready for this?
