Alendi was the man set to release the power from the well, before Rashek killed him and took it for himself. The Lord Ruler defeated Ruin in a way, or did he?  Vin is recovering from her stab wound during her encounter with an inquisitor at Kredik Shaw. We believe that the only reason Kelsier allowed Vin to come is due to Ruin's influence on his slightly mad mind. Upon returning from her sickbed in Luthadel to Mansion Renoux. Vin believes Sazed must be an Allomancer, in her mind that is the only way he could have defeated an inquisitor, and rescued her from near death at Kredik Shaw. Boy, does she have a lot to learn. Sazed drops some knowledge on us about keepers, the Lord Ruler's breeding program, feruchemy, and the history of the Terris people since Rashek's rise to power.

Vin and Kelsier approach Kredik Shaw in the night. Is the Lord Ruler's palace made of metal to hide what's inside of it from the eyes of Ruin? We explain compounding; the method of combing allomancy and feruchemy that Rashek uses to obtain immortality. Also, we spend a little time explaining how Kelsier got caught in Kredik Shaw the first time. Mare did not betray the small party in the way everyone thinks. As the two Mistborn enter the palace, they're confronted by multiple groups of soldiers in a series of bad ass action scenes. None of them survive the encounter, and Kel reassures Vin that they are justified in killing Skaa soldiers. We'll talk a bit about Kelsier's strange moral compass. As our heroes walk into the inner sanctum of the Lord Ruler and his religion, they are confronted again, but this time by Steel Inquisitors. Kelsier and Vin flee in different directions, two chase Kel, and one pursues Vin. Eventually a fatally injured Vin crash-lands on a rooftop. Unbeknownst to her, Sazed has been follow

Sazed is concerned about the exchange between Vin and Elend, and questions her thoroughly. Despite Sazed's warnings, Vin is looking forward to seeing him again. Lord Renoux talks about meeting Elend many years ago, well before Oreseur became Renoux. We'll discuss how the Kandra may have gotten that information, and how Kandra society and law works in general. Kelsier heads out into the night on a mysterious mission, and the ever curious Vin follows. She discovers the Allomantic highway, and quickly works out how to jump from bronze spike to bronze spike. Upon reaching Luthadel, Kelsier discovers Vin. With the understanding that he won't be able to prevent her from following, Kelsier gives Vin a new lesson in Allomancy. Atium, and it's uses. Hell-bent on uncovering the secrets of the Lord Ruler, Kelsier heads toward Kredik Shaw, with his Skaa Mistborn Apprentice in tow.

Kelsier has had Vin return to Luthadel for further training in her Allomantic powers. Each of their Misting friends will teach her what they can of Allomancy, starting with Breeze. We have an interesting conversation spurred by Breeze's personal interpretation of the morality of manipulation. Does Breeze indeed have an unfair advantage in social settings? Kelsier and Vin have started sparring to improve the newly discovered Mistborn's skills. It's been several months, and Vin has progressed quickly. When the two Mistborn return to Mansion Renoux, Sazed informs Vin that she'll be having her hair cut. She hates it, but Sazed and Kelsier agree that this will be crucial for her impersonation of a 'lady'. Sazed tells us about Trell, an ancient god, that the Lord Ruler tried to wipe out any knowledge of. We'll learn much more about this character in Mistborn Era 2, which leads us to believe that there was at least some factual basis in the ancient story Sazed tells us in this scene. We know Sazed's study of human religion and history turns out to be critical later when he's reshaping the world. But why did he choose this path of subverting the Lord Ruler in the first place?  Kel realizes through a conversation with Saz that the best way to continue Vin's training is to send her to is Misting friends, to study each individual metal. Kelsier is training Vin, and the opening of this chapter is Vin's very first steelpush/jump. She is not successful in clearing the battlements of Luthadel. Kelsier pulls her to the top, and tells her to jump back off or wait for the city guard and explain to them how she got there. Not much of choice at all. Vin botches her landing as well, nearly breaking her neck in the fall. Kel wants vin to make her mistakes now, while he's there to help. While the two walk along the outside of the city's walls, Vin encounters her first mistwraith, we'll have a discussion about mistwraiths, kandras, the relationship between the two, and how they were created by the Lord Ruler. Marsh confronts Kelsier about the level of violence has already committed. Essentially questioning whether or not Kelsier's leadership is an improvement on leadership in it's current form. Do his ends justify the means? although, Marsh eventually consents to return and debate Kelsier's plan further. Staying in Club's shop is a luxurious experience for Vin. Although, she isn't feeling any less paranoid than usual, despite the people she's working with. They don't even seem like Skaa to her. She begrudgingly takes a bath, and hates the way she smells afterward. After surreptitiously smuggling some food out of the kitchen to hoard it in her room, Spook knocks on her door to tell her that the crew is starting a meeting upstairs. This is the original meeting where the crew lays down an outline to accomplish their goal. We'll walk our listeners through the plans the crew comes up with, one step at a time, the pros and cons of each idea, and talk about how those plans ultimately play out through the series. We'll learn about the role of Lord Renoux in the plan, and watch the more knowledgeable members of the team quickly realize that Renoux is not a nobleman, nor even human. Vin is back at Camon's safe house. Her gut is telling her that the Canton of Finance shouldn't have been so easy to manipulate. She suspects a trap, and although she's right, when Camon finds out Vin is planning on leaving he beats her mercilessly. The tiny amounts of metals she has latent in her blood aren't enough to sooth him. Kelsier enters by blowing the door off it's hinges. He hates injustice, and he wants his new Mistborn. Kel: With a knife in the chest. Kelsier and Dockson meet on top of the walls of Luthadel to discuss how Kelsier's new job will move forward. Kelsier has been gone from the city for years, and Dockson is still getting used to the idea of Kel being Mistborn. The two men go over their options, picking the members of the crew they'll need to pull off this new job. Dockson tells Kelsier that, before they go to their meeting he has something – or rather someone – to show Kel. It's Vin of course, the only other known living Skaa Mistborn. The two men watch Camon and Vin walk into the Canton of Finance to pull their scam. The two lesser thieves are being scammed by the Obligators, who have only set up this second meeting to confirm that Vin is a Misting. Luckily for Vin, Kelsier finds out what she is just in time to save her life.

How much of Vin's thoughts are her own, and how much is Ruin's influence? We discuss Vin's 'Luck' as instinctive Allomancy, used in various ways. When an Obligator arrives to discuss a deal with Camon, negotiations don't go well. Vin soothes the Obligator's emotions while he's talking to Camon, and the Obligator appears to change his mind. Kelsier makes a visit to a plantation north of Luthadel, to preach his evangel. The owner of this particular plantation is known for being particularly harsh on his Skaa. We know how Kelsier feels about that. When a young girl is taken from her hovel in the night to be the Lord's new toy, Kelsier becomes furious. He kills the nobles that live there, the Obligators, all of their guards, and everyone else who raises a hand against his righteous rage. All while the Skaa sleep. When they awake in the morning they realize they'll all be killed if they stay, their only choice is to join the rebellion. Kelsier left them no other option. In this third world building episode of Mistborn Spoilers, we discuss the events surrounding the ascension of the Lord Ruler. Rashek Murders Alendi in his sleep, and takes the power at the Well of Ascension for himself. There is no doubt, this act saves the world from Ruin. Rashek changes the world, the people, animals, and plants. He makes many mistakes, but manages to put off armageddon for 1000 years.
