  • Music Technology, The Opportunity Is Immense

    25/09/2018 Duración: 08min

Today I'm talking about my current thoughts on the ever-growing tools we have at our fingertips as musicians. It's easy to deny change, but vital to embrace technologies like this. I don't discuss it in this clip because it all happened afterwards, but consider looking into automated mastering . All I'm saying is do some research before denying it. There is potential in this area - the technology is only going to get better! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #53 - "She Depicts"

    24/09/2018 Duración: 08min

A song about Surrealism. It's actually about Erica Baptiste's surrealistic, abstract paintings. (@eb_russo_art). Wrote this one in Winter 2017. It's got some potential, what do you think? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • The Beauty Of Making Your Album On Your Own Terms

    18/09/2018 Duración: 06min

Working on your project on your own timeline while at the same time growing your audience is a blessing! You can choose however you want to portray your process, while simultaneously slowing building up some buzz for the album. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #52 - "Sundrug"

    17/09/2018 Duración: 05min

This one makes me think of sun rays over a windy desert. It's got a lot of potential, picking up speed and dying down again. I think I'll add vocals over this one, perhaps after the guitar solo! This idea is in G, time signature of 4/4, and it's got plenty of moments to work with! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Stream Of Consciousness Writing For Lyrics, Dissect Podcast

    11/09/2018 Duración: 04min

Some tips for really getting inside your song's concept and lyrics. I got inspired by this technique when listening to the Dissect Podcast's coverage on Kanye's "Monster" and Frank Ocean's "Bad Religion" --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #51 - "Mauve Ropes"

    10/09/2018 Duración: 04min

A jungle/rainforest atmosphere. I picture a man swinging around on purple vines across a psychedelic violet jungle. This has gotta be used for a film! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #50 - "I Can See The Lens"

    05/09/2018 Duración: 05min

I like this semi-cryptic, personal, short song that I feel is well-suited to be #50! I wrote the intro riff in July 2017, but I worked on the lyrics, melodies, and solo this summer. I think it's got some potential! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Working On The Album Never Stops, Music Quiz, Short Covers

    04/09/2018 Duración: 06min

Even while vacationing on Labor Day Weekend I don't stop working on the album - whether it be thinking on the lyrics, music arranging, chords, or field recording. I'm always thinking "what other sounds could I gather from the outside world?" --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #49 - "Juh The Gunk"

    29/08/2018 Duración: 05min

This one is confusing! Written back in around 2009/2010, it's in 10/4 and it's centered around D. There's some cool arrangement stuff going on here, though I'm not crazy about the drum sound in this recording - it's from an old drum machine. I had to do a lot of EQ to make the hi hat much less harsh, but I lost some audio quality by doing so. You still get the idea! I actually think there should be some saxophone somewhere in this song. Thoughts? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • International Collab, Animoji

    28/08/2018 Duración: 06min

It's always great to collaborate with people - you never know what could come of it! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #48 - "My Driver"

    27/08/2018 Duración: 04min

This one PUNCHES. It's a rockin' riff in E minor, just instrumental for now. Not sure what context to put it in. I think it's got a cool groove to it - maybe it could use some guitar solo improv over it? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #46 - "True Love On A Mental Plane"

    22/08/2018 Duración: 05min

I've always really liked this one from 2010 - it was so nice to revive with drums, bass, harmony vocals, and subtle electric guitar swells (can you hear them?). I'm going for that psychedelic/dreamy vibe in this song about slipping into love. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Taking Cover Requests From Your Audience, Album Brainstorm

    21/08/2018 Duración: 05min

More on Instagram Stories & engaging with your followers - really building those relationships. Also, I did a lot of brainstorming this weekend on the macro-views of my new album - the concepts, lyrics, etc. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #45 - "Hazra"

    20/08/2018 Duración: 04min

This riff is super old - I think 2009. I like the sections, but I'm wondering if there should be more lyrics besides just "Howl at the moon" hahaha. Maybe a solo over the outro as well. What are your thoughts? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • IG Stories: Going for the Ask (New Album Announcement)

    17/08/2018 Duración: 06min

IG Stories is an awesome way to engage with your followers/listeners. Be strategic about how you build your audience - stay organized and be great to them. I'm so excited to get started on Volume 1! This has all been such an immense learning experience. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #44 - "Theater Tears"

    15/08/2018 Duración: 02min

The idea is from 2016. Came up with it on a whim, but the electric bends came only recently. I think it could fit as some kind of soundtrack. Maybe some strings to embellish it more? I think I could see this used in a film. Perhaps a silent film! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support
