  • Riff Talk #42 - "Armory"

    10/08/2018 Duración: 04min

Someone make a video game - this will be the theme music :) I wrote this one in April 2018, just improvised it with my ditto looper. It came to life with some drums! I like the moment it breaks down and gets a bit symphonic, but i'm not crazy about it kicking back in so abruptly. I probably won't keep it like that! The motif's gotta be used somewhere, though. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #41 - "Burn I'm Feeling"

    08/08/2018 Duración: 05min

What a strange psychedelic folk song! I tried to stay close to the original recording of it from 2009 with the vox effect. It was great bringing it to life with more instruments. The drums did a lot to it, as did the harmony vox. What do you think about this one? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #40 - "Pink Lectro Wood"

    06/08/2018 Duración: 03min

This one's instrumental for now, but it could lead to some vocals. As for the title, I usually just write down the first phrase that comes to mind right when I record something. Not sure what I was thinking back in 2010 but it works for me! I love keeping the working titles. Enjoy this acoustic nature jam! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #39 - "Headspace"

    03/08/2018 Duración: 04min

This riff/idea was written back in 2013. I've always liked this one! There's a strange contrast between the (bit Black Sabbath-ish) riff and the verses. And no, I don't actually want that Picardy Third at the end there, still trying to come up with a 2nd half to this piece! Though I like how it'll modulate to D. Let me know your thoughts! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #38 - "Tunnel"

    01/08/2018 Duración: 05min

Man, this one's nuts. I like the different ideas floating around, particularly the main riff and the mini guitar solo when everything stops. Lyrics need some revisiting, but I've always had that weird melody in my head. What else could you see happening here? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Thank You - Just hit 1,000 plays! You ROCK

    30/07/2018 Duración: 28s

So damn cool guys. Whoever's out there listening, come talk to me! I wanna get your feedback, see what you guys like and HATE. I appreciate this so much THANK YOU :D --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #37 - "Wall Marauder"

    30/07/2018 Duración: 04min

This one's from 2012. I'm thinking ACOUSTIC Rammstein, nah mean? I'm not sure if the riff needed electric guitar, but maybe a 12 string or some other texture to accompany it. I like how it kicks bass, but yeah this idea needs to go somewhere. It's like acoustic industrial, if that makes any sense. DU HAST. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #36 - "Cadabra Pearls"

    25/07/2018 Duración: 04min

Another oldie - love the title, it fits the music well. It's in 10/4 - sort of doesn't feel like it though. This is one of my favorite basslines I've written! I love how it dances around the drum groove and guitar riff. Can you hear any other instruments being playing over this? Well, besides a phone alarm. Groove = the dancing space between the instruments --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #35 - "A Part Of Me Rumbles"

    23/07/2018 Duración: 05min

Another super oldie, circa 2010. It all started with a phone recording at the piano rooms at UMass Amherst. I had this weird vocal idea ("slipping the venom inside the rose...etc") that never made too much sense. But reviving it with some more arrangement, and slightly altering the lyrics totally brought it to life! Needs to head somewhere though. Thoughts? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #34 - "Champagne Dizza"

    18/07/2018 Duración: 05min

Such an old song! Man, Champagne Dizza dates back to sophomore year in college, so around 2010. I've always liked this one and it was awesome to revive it. I think it works just fine with no drums - not even percussion I don't think. Still trying to work out the words, but there's some potential here! Let me know your thoughts. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #33 - "Wavelength"

    16/07/2018 Duración: 03min

This is a fuzzy, warm, hypnotic riff that could work as some sort of soundtrack to something. I can mayyybe hear some vocals over this - curious for someone to try it out! Listen to that bass, it's a peculiar line. You know what I mean by hypnotic? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #32 - "Levitate"

    14/07/2018 Duración: 04min

Well this one was a friggin' blast! Lotta potential here, it's a bit drone-y but I think that's why I love it. I mean I GUESS I can add a section with more chords. The lyrics were written on a whim, so lot of room for messing around with that. The solo was fun as hell to record with all that feedback. I'm hearing another solo with some cool instrument. Who's got a dulcimer or something? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #31 - "Decorum"

    12/07/2018 Duración: 04min

Seeking a vocalist for this one! Or any kind of lead instrument that would blend in well with this one. This one's got some potential - I like the 2 different sections, and the subtle additions when Section A comes around again. Decorum is a fairly recent one, only about 2 months old. I'll start digging up some really old ones! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #30 - "I, The Lurker"

    09/07/2018 Duración: 04min

This riff is in a CAVE I tell you. I hear a lot of potential with this one - perhaps as a film score piece or an instrumental. I'm not hearing vocals with this one for some reason but please surprise me if you do! I also think this title really fits the music. Just picture a strange lurking creature twitching around inside a cave looking for other forms of life. Yea. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #29 - "Verdure"

    06/07/2018 Duración: 05min

This next riff was written early last year in 2017. I think the name fits the music well, it's got a sort of "nature" sound to it - well to me, anyway. Clearly 2 distinct sections here. The switch when the drums come in is cool but I'm not entirely sure where to go from there. I'm thinking maybe it'll stay in that rhythm for a bit and perhaps somehow end up at Section A. Thoughts? Suggestions? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #28 - "Down"

    02/07/2018 Duración: 05min

I really enjoyed making this next riff - I think it's one of those ideas that can just keep going forever. The improv soloing over was really fun to do, probably because the progression is emotional and serious. Fits the name "Down", I think. I could hear some vocals on this too, no? Who wants to solo over this? I think it'd be a blast to trade off improvising! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #27 - "Villager"

    27/06/2018 Duración: 05min

This one is also fairly recent (March 2018). It's got a nice open, sort of mountainous sound to it. I'm using this killer program called EZ Drummer - check it out! It's really changing my game because I can add drums to my riffs and really show you the kind of vibe I'm going for. What do you think of the improv over it? The whammy bar is still so fresh and new to me, I love it! Someone add some vox over this! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #26 - "Hive"

    25/06/2018 Duración: 04min

This next original riff is about a month old. The name is super fitting I'd say! I think this piece would work well in a spooky kooky film. Maybe an eerie silent film - not sure what would be happening in this particular scene though. What instrumentation should be added on to this? Bongos and congas? Cigar and a waffle? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #25 - "Nexus Things"

    21/06/2018 Duración: 04min

This next original idea is a song intro paying homage to legends like Ravi Shankar, Paco De Lucia, B.B. King, and Ben E. King. I'm thinking it should lead into some kind of tabla/sitar breakdown with some nylon guitar dancing around! Simple chords in E, a bit drone-y. How about some Tambura? Mmmm! Anybody got one? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support

  • Riff Talk #24 - "Desperate Is The Rainfall"

    18/06/2018 Duración: 05min

This particular riff is more of a song idea. The lyrics aren't really official, this was made over 6 years ago! Are there any other instruments you're hearing here? Where else could this song go, or does it stand alone as it is? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/danbarracuda/support
