Carson Lake And Pasture

Nevada's Premier Youth Outdoor Skills Camp
07/05/2021 Duración: 27minThe Maison T Ortiz Youth Outdoor Skills Camp is back! Founded in 2011, the camp, near Pyramid Lake, is designed to immerse kids in outdoor skills training. The camp is named in honor and memory of Maison T Ortiz, a 15-year-old Galena High School student who tragically died in a snowboarding accident in January 2011. In this week's Nevada Wild, Ashley Sanchez and Aaron Keller sit down with Maison's father Tom Ortiz, and Conservation Educator Zac Campbell to talk about the history of the camp, what it means to Tom and other camp organizers to see the event grow year after year, NDOW's involvement, what changes campers can expect this year and more! NDOW Heroes
23/04/2021 Duración: 29minIn this week's Nevada Wild, Aaron Keller and Ashley Sanchez speak with two NDOW heroes, Game Wardens Zachary Blackwood and Sean Flynn. Both were recently involved in rescues and saved lives on Lake Mead. Zachary happened to be in the right place at the right time and worked with National National Park Service Law Enforcement Rangers to rescue a kayaker who had spent more than an hour in 40-degree water after his kayak capsized. Sean rescued a three-year-old girl from under a capsized boat on Lake Mead when more than a dozen members of a church group were thrown into the water. The two game wardens recount these intense rescues and share important information that you can use to ensure you and your family's safety while boating on Nevada's waters.

Pyramid Lake Bighorn Sheep Herd
26/03/2021 Duración: 26minIn a historic moment in January 2020, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW)and Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe (PLPT) partnered to release bighorn sheep on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation. The goal was to return bighorn sheep to an area where they once thrived. In this week's Nevada Wild, Aaron Keller and Ashley Sanchez sit down with NDOW Bighorn Sheep Staff Specialist Mike Cox and PLPT Biologist Emily Hagler to talk about the status of the bighorn sheep released on tribal land and the work being done to keep the population growing. In celebration of Women's History Month, Emily also tells us all about her background and role as a biologist for PLPT, and the discusses the work she put into this project. Mike talks about other work being done around the state to keep Nevada's bighorn sheep populations thriving!

New Maps Document Big-Game Migrations Across the Western United States
05/02/2021 Duración: 28minFor the first time, state and federal wildlife biologists have come together to begin mapping the migrations of mule deer, elk, pronghorn, moose and bison across America’s West. In this week's Nevada Wild, Aaron Keller and Ashley Sanchez virtually podcast with NDOW's Mule Deer Staff Specialist Cody Schroeder, and first time Nevada Wild guest, Dr. Matthew Kauffman with U.S. Geological Survey's Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.
