  • The Mummy (2017) is not Kendra's Mummy

    12/02/2019 Duración: 39min

This week Ken and Kendra talk The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy (2017). Kendra talks about how Brendan Fraser version is the best and Tom Cruise is lacking. Ken says Tom Cruise is the best. (Cue Kendra’s sigh.) We give quick tips for what to do if you run into a sandstorm that has a mummy’s face in it. The most famous Nick (Jake Johnson) is in The Mummy (2017). Nick Miller then has to talk to Tom Cruise’s character who’s name is Nick Morton. It’s a nightmare. And our connection to Peri Gilpin that took us an eternity to figure out, but we cut all that out. Jake Johnson and Annabelle Wallis were both in The Mummy (2017) and Tag (2018) with Hannibal Burress. Hannibal Buress was in Broad City which Peri Gilpin was also in playing Abbi’s mom. • The balloons in Killing Eve still have Kendra floating on air

    05/02/2019 Duración: 34min

This week Ken and Kendra talk British shows with the series Killing Eve, a quick plug for Sex Education on Netflix, and an even quicker love note for Big Dreams, Small Spaces, a British garden show with host Monty Don. Before we get into all that, Ken and Kendra dive into their dreams and goals for Zac Efron’s career. We want him to only play people in high school or college. Once he gets too old to play a college student we will allow him to do the Rodney Dangerfield back to school thing. This is just a lot saying we don’t want to see “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile”. In our conversations about Killing Eve (BBC America, Hulu) we discuss the performances of Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, while also discussing our general reverence for Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Kendra’s favorite part of the whole show Villanelle’s apartment and her absolutely perfect taste in balloons. That doesn’t mean Kendra didn’t like the show it means Kendra truly LOVED the fancy spherical balloons.  Next up, Kendra recommends th

  • Kendra forces Ken to lip sync and shimmy in honor of Lizzie McGuire

    29/01/2019 Duración: 37min

Ken and Kendra quickly review the Oscar nominees and say, “ehhh, not for me, but good for Glenn Close.” Ken talks about how he was at the same coordinates as Peri Gilpin and his biggest fear was having to explain to Peri Gilpin his own degree of connection to her.  This week Ken and Kendra watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie (2003) which according to Kendra was an absolute hit and according to Ken he would have preferred being hit. We have a real fun time going through the movies artfully made plot holes and exaggerations. We ask many unanswerable questions like why was Paulo hanging out at the Trevi fountain? Why did Lizzie bail on Gordo for a full hour and a half? Why does Lizzie McGuire have a famous Italian doppelgänger who has a terrible accent? And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Lizzie McGuire Movie leading lady, Hilary Duff was in A Cinderella Story with Jennifer Coolidge. Jennifer Coolidge was in a season 8 episode of Frasier entitled “Forgotten But Not Gone”. That’s two degrees everyone.

  • We watch Eighth Grade and choose not to relive our eighth grades

    22/01/2019 Duración: 32min

The buttons are in and look very cool! Remember if you didn’t DM us on Instagram (@degreesofperi) to get a button you still can. Kendra tells the quick and sad story about how she went to Bumblebee to hear Dylan O’Brien and was severely disappointed. Ken revels in her misfortune.  This week Ken and Kendra watched Eighth Grade which has Kendra questioning how we spell eighth. We talk about how awkward eighth grade is and how well Bo Burnham captures the people who fill your adolescence. Fun fact Ken went to the same high school as Bo Burnham. And our connection to Peri Gilpin. The Bumblebee star who isn’t Dylan O’Brien is Hailee Steinfeld who was in Edge of Seventeen with Woody Harrelson, who was a KEY character in Cheers and was in the episode of Frasier entitled, “The Show Where Woody Shows Up” If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! • Johnny Flynn beat Napoleon at Waterloo; Kendra watches

    15/01/2019 Duración: 32min

Wow! We announce our biggest NEWS yet, beyond Peri getting verified on Instagram. We are getting buttons for the podcast. If you want to get your hands on a button you better follow us on Instagram and reach out (supplies are limited). Ken tells us about the movie he saw at the fancy Metrograph, Leave No Trace. It’s about a sad man who lives in the woods with his daughter. Ken related to this movie that starred Ben Foster (he was Angel in X-Men) the exact correct amount.  Kendra walks everyone through her favorite show that uses Waterloo as a backdrop, Vanity Fair. It’s based off a William Thackery book. The show stars Olivia Cooke (from Bates Motel or Ready Player One depending on your viewing habits) and Johnny Flynn (from Kendra watching youtube videos in college and Scrotal Recall/ Lovesick). It’s just 7 episodes and they are about 50 minutes. It’s all very British and charming and has a fairly happy ending. Yay! And our connection to Peri Gilpin. We really phoned it in on this one and asked everyone

  • Ken turns into SpiderKen in our multiverse

    08/01/2019 Duración: 31min

We dive into the Marvel universe. Ken and Kendra both watched Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and were very into it! And don’t worry not too spooky with the spiders in this movie. Hailee Steinfeld is SpiderGwen, so she had a busy promo month (Bumblebee) Then Kendra walked us through her new latest show pastime, The Runaways. The Runaways is a Marvel comic from 2003 that is now a Hulu Original. She likes it. It includes a dinosaur, a witch, and a guy with cool gloves and many more. Kendra is deep on the season 2 after watching last year.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin. Lily Tomlin was Aunt May in Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (she was great). Lily Tomlin was Rita on a call in episode in 1994. So fun! If you’re in the mood you can also support us via Listener Support! The first 25 Listener Supporters will get a t-shirt. • We wish you a Peri New Year!

    01/01/2019 Duración: 33min

We get into the New Years spirit by explaining our resolutions and talk about who has been called Kenny more in their lifetime. Ken discusses the films he saw between Christmas and New Years. It’s Ken, so its a long list and you should buckle up. He saw The Destroyer with Nicole Kidman, Vice by the people who made The Big Short, and finally Mary Poppins which he saw with his familia. Kendra would have joined the boys of Ken’s family in watching Bumblebee but was too busy showing her own family The Spy Who Dumped Me.  Kendra subtly brings up that she got her wisdom teeth out as a form of excuse for why she watched Netflix’s Tidelands in less than 24 hours. The show is an Australian casual mermaid show that doesn’t bother paying for any underwater special effects cause the whole story is just about drugs. Kendra would highly recommend and if anyone from Australia is listening we are extremely sorry about all the Tidelander accent stuff.  And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Angela Lansbury was the Bal

  • 2018 in review: Kendra talks TV, Ken talks music, everyone talks miscellaneous

    25/12/2018 Duración: 46min

We celebrate Christmas by unwrapping our favorite TV shows and music for 2018. Kendra leads with a list of her favorite television shows: American Vandal, On My Block, Sisters (from Australia), The 100, Sharp Objects, and End of the F—ing World. Ken puts Bojack Horseman, Big Mouth and The Good Place on his list with New Girl, Cheers, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, as his 2018 comfort food. Sliding right into music, Ken takes the lead cause he listens to music. Mitski leads his list (she follows Ken on Twitter) with REM, Sidney Gish, Jeff Tweedy, Ted's Diner, Kurt vile. And for original scores he really loved Nicholas Britell for If Beale Street Could Talk and Jonny Greenwood for The Phantom Thread. Kendra adds that the Greatest Showman is kind of 2018 and that it was truly the greatest show. Now to the very competitive and organized miscellaneous category. Ken saw the musical The Band’s Visit before it won any Tony’s, so good for him. Kendra is just happy with Phoebe Waller Bridges and her 2018. Ken and Kend

  • 2018 in review: Ken talks movies, Kendra talks podcasts

    18/12/2018 Duración: 34min

It’s almost the end of 2018 which means we are doing part one of our two-part year in review. We start with a softball, which Chris had the best 2018. Ken brings us through his top 5 list of best movies: The Favourite, If Beale Street Could Talk, Mission Impossible 6 Fallout, Ballad Of Buster Scruggs, and Bad Times at the El Royale. Ken’s honorable mentions are all Kendra’s favorites: The Spy Who Dumped Me, To All The Boys I Loved Before, A Star is Born, The Greatest Showman, and Sorry To Bother You. Then in the podcast category. Kendra talks about a few of her favorites like the advice column podcast Dear Prudence from Slate with Daniel Mallory Ortberg. She is convinced it is a quiz for your brain about interacting with conflict. Keep It from Crooked Media with Ira Madison III is one of our top favorite podcasts for a delicious midweek snack. For you news heads, Kendra recommends The Daily 202 by the Washington Post which is a quick daily podcast that tells you what things mean and what the ramifications wi

  • Vanessa Hudgens and Ken are doppelgängers and now Ken is Princess of Genovia

    11/12/2018 Duración: 44min

This week we discuss the latest Original Netflix Christmas movies that are pretty much Hallmark movies. The first we dive into is the Princess Switch. This movie stars Vanessa Hudgens and her doppelganger Vanessa Hudgens and their respective romantic interests Sam Palladio and Nick Sagar. Vanessa Hudgens 1 plays a baker who goes to fake Genovia for a world renown baking competition and runs into Vanessa Hudgens 2. There are lots of accents and a lot of confusing love plot lines. The second movie which we call a film is The Holiday Calendar. Kat Graham plays a photographer living in her hometown who is gifted by her grandfather a magic antique advent calendar. Over the course of the movie, she has two men vying for her love Ethan Peck (boo!) and Quincy Brown (yay!) We all have to wait till the haunted holiday calendar lets Kat Graham get with Quincy Brown. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Kat Graham was in The Holiday Calendar and also in the main cast of The Vampire Diaries (2009) with Matthew Davis. Ma

  • A Scruggs is a movie that can’t get no love from Kendra

    04/12/2018 Duración: 34min

Ken would recommend you watch The Ballad of Buster Scruggs and love it. Kendra would recommend you not bother and just listen to this podcast instead. We tell the general plot of the short stories and Kendra really gives away a major spoiler at minute 16:20. We also discuss the gender dynamics regarding critiques of the Coen brothers and ask why they aren’t called the Coen siblings. Unrelated to the Coen brothers we talk about Chris Pine’s visible pine in the Outlaw King. . And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Tom Waits was in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs which we really took our time talking about. He was also in Candy Mountain (1987) [which Kendra incorrectly said was related to the song Big Rock Candy Mountain] with Laurie Metcalf. Laurie Metcalf was in a Frasier episode in 2004 with Peri Gilpin called Caught in the Act. A couple of fun facts about the show. • John Grisham had The Firm grip on Ken’s adolescence

    27/11/2018 Duración: 35min

Ken and Kendra give their final synopsis on the holiday known as Thanksgiving and rate their favorite holidays (including the pagan ones). Ken watched the Firm which shockingly features Tom Cruise along with Gene Hackman, Holly Hunter, Ed Harris, and David Strathairn. Kendra gives The Lonely Guy with Steve Martin a quick plug. Kendra reveals the folly of Ken saying golly instead of jolly. She also really tears into a movie on Amazon Prime called One Small Hitch. Ken watched Juliet, Naked and extols the virtues of Ethan Hawke playing a likable screw up and Rose Byrne just doing anything because the woman is an exemplar of talent and spirit. Kendra likes Chris O'Dowd despite Ken not wanting to mention him. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Rose Byrne was in Juliet, Naked which we talked about. She was also in Neighbors (2014) and Neighbors 2 (2016) with the wonderful Hannibal Buress. Hannibal Buress was in Flock of Dudes (2015) with Peri Gilpin which we have now vowed to watch. A couple fun facts about th

  • The Spy Who Dumped Kendra

    20/11/2018 Duración: 36min

Ken and Kendra discuss our favorite Thanksgiving movies: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987) with Steve Martin and John Candy and Home for the Holidays (1995) with Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr. and Dylan McDermott. Most of the episode we talk everyone through our new favorite movie, The Spy Who Dumped Me. Ken likes it because he loves a fish out of water spy movie that reminds him of the 80s. Kendra likes it because it was practically designed around her likes and dislikes (the power of female writers.) To avoid spoilers skip minutes 20 - 28. The rest is NEARLY spoiler free. Happy Thanksgiving to all our listeners we are most thankful for all of youuuuuu. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... James Fleet was a villain in The Spy Who Dumped Me. He was also a mainstay in The Vicar of Dibley which aired from 1994-2007 and one episode featured Johnny Depp in 1999. Peri Gilpin was in an episode of 21 Jump Street that starred Johnny Depp in 1988 called The Currency We Trade In. We are going to try and find it

  • We genuinely ask Dylan O'Brien to teach us how to Maze Run

    13/11/2018 Duración: 36min

This episode we are all over the movie map. Ken walks us through Wildlife (written by Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan) and Bohemian Rhapsody (starring Rami Malek). We then masterfully move on to Maze Runner: Death Cure starring Kendra's favorite Dylan O'Brien. Which walks us right into the hairy arms of Teen Wolf a show that really gets good by season 3. Note: Next week we will be talking The Spy Who Dumped Me! You can watch it with us if you like! And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Gillian Anderson was a call-in for a 1999 episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin. And then Gillian Anderson was in the movie Shadow Dancer with Aidan Gillan in 2012. A couple fun facts about the show. • Robb Stark or Kevin Costner: Who do you want to guard your body?

    06/11/2018 Duración: 31min

Kendra talks the Netflix show The Bodyguard with Richard Madden. Ken thinks the strong jawline would be a safety hazard for every body he would be guarding. He is correct. If you were wondering when and how Ken first watched The Bodyguard (1992) this would be a key episode to listen to. If you wanted to know if his car had a CD player or a tape deck this would also be a key episode to listen to. Also if you want to hear Ken's very positive feelings about BoJack Horseman. And our connection to Peri Gilpin... Woody Harrelson was in an episode of Frasier with Peri Gilpin. And then Woody Harrelson was in a TV special for Earth Day in 1990 with Kevin Costner. A couple fun facts about the show. You can leave us an audio message by downloading the Anchor app, going to our profile, and tapping + Voice Message. We might include it in future eps. 30/10/2018 Duración: 33min

They compare the beginning episodes of both series. Ken does a quick review of the latest Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis. Kendra talks about her love/ hate relationship with Halloween, the holiday. By the end of this show, you will be haunted by backing up trucks and Ken's insistence on John Carpenter. A couple fun facts about the show. 23/10/2018 Duración: 33min

Ken is First Man’s first stan. Ken complains about Ryan Gosling's short hair and praises Claire Foy. Kendra has begun symbiosis with Venom and does an extremely good impression of Tom Hardy doing a New York accent. She also encourages everyone to watch Netflix's Elite for a possible later episode. A couple fun facts about our podcast. You can leave us an audio message by downloading the Anchor app, going to our profile, and tapping + Voice Message. We might include it on a future podcast. • Ken and Kendra are a pair of Smart Cookies but dumb people

    16/10/2018 Duración: 31min

Staying as relevant as ever, we discuss a 2012 Hallmark Channel movie, Smart Cookies. It features the one and only Patricia Richardson from Home Improvement. Ken embarrasses Kendra by mentioning her Hallmark Channel Original movie script that is half finished and features both peaches AND blueberries. We also dive into each other's broken aesthetics and the prevalence of October flies. Also, hackles versus shackles; You decide. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kendraken/support

  • Tell me somethin' boy, are you happy with A Star Is Born

    09/10/2018 Duración: 42min

We talk A Star is Born. To avoid spoilers skip from 22:00 to 39:00. The rest is totally SPOILER FREE. I will say, we do spoil how the Titanic ends. • What has two thumbs and hasn't seen American Vandal? Ken.

    02/10/2018 Duración: 26min

Ken and Kendra discuss American Vandal and what true crimes they would fake do. Ken talks about his weepy weekend which involved Cat Power and The Sisters Brothers. Kendra really enjoyed American Vandal season 2 featuring Taylor Dearden but would implore everyone to watch the 2016 show Sweet/ Vicious which was rudely canceled, but feels more relevant than ever. Also don't eat during the first episode of American Vandal season 2. WARNING: Next episode will center around A Star Is Born, which we do have premium tickets to. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kendraken/support
