There are so many comic books and graphic novels I have not had the opportunity to read before they were made into movies or television series.  We are all stuck on our traditional superhero and comic book stories but The Old Guard is something different but the question is:  IS IT WORTH WATCHING? The Old Guard is a 2020 American superhero film directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love and Basketball) and written by Greg Rucka, based on his comic book of the same name. The world is upside down right now and now more than ever people need to be aware of how they are perceived in the public eye. From law enforcement, to the military, public officials, and entertainment personalities. I want to focus on one specific symbolism and that is the Punisher from Marvel Comics. So, HBO Max made a debut to the fanfare of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut and now we have another streaming service ready to duke it out with Netflix and Disney+. Warner Bros., You had to go and do it. You actually plan on releasing a Directors Cut of the Justice League movie two (2), almost three (3) years after the fact. These movies skipping theaters may become the new norm and if they keep doing it with these kid friendly feel good movies it may be a trend that’s here to stay. I have watched and raved over so many Warner Bros. Animation Features because of their quality and storytelling. The DC Animated Movie Universe is everything that a DC Comic book fan would want and it does give some insight on what the live action versions could have been. This is the final film in the series and it did not disappoint. Before I start the review let’s track back to the beginning: I had no clue that this was going to be interconnected with all of the titles they produced. Some stories being extremely relevant but others being filler to introduce characters who would later become important in the end. Sometimes you just need to have a good no nonsense laugh. Real life is a couple episodes short of 100% being a circus clown show. In addition, stereotypes while they can be offensive have some humor hidden within them if done correctly.
