24/01/2019 Duración: 01h03minAs Marie Kondo says, “I love mess.” She might have a blast with what she’d hear in this week’s episode! Sarah starts the show with the Legend of Moll Dyer. A 17th century woman who lived on the fringes of society, Moll was accused of witchcraft. After being chased from her home by an angry mob, she was thought to have escaped into the woods. When her body was found, new theories arose. Stephanie follows up with the highly publicized disaster that was the Fyre Festival. Billy McFarland made a name for himself as an entrepreneur before meeting Ja Rule and conceptualizing what would arguably be the greatest musical festival the world had ever known. The reality turned out to be a bunch of rich kids trapped on an island with no running water and not enough food. Where did this lavish Instagram party extravaganza go wrong? Just about everywhere. E33 Weird Holiday Shit with Mariangela!
27/12/2018 Duración: 39minIt’s still the holiday season! For some reason, making a show every week and feeling like we’ve had to do so many holiday shows back to back really brings out the Christmas cheer. This episode was recorded on Christmas Eve 2018 with our very own Mariangela Saavedra. Inspired by our Krampus run down, she did research on all sorts of strange holiday traditions and figures. Some highlights include Belsnickel, Grýla and the Yule Lads, stew made from children, and the controversial Dutch figure known as Zwarte Piet. We also talk about holiday stories like The Nutcracker and The Little Match Girl. Don’t miss out! Listen to E33 Weird Holiday Shit with Mariangela! Subscribe, rate, and review today. E32 Krampusnacht'd On Deez Nutz
21/12/2018 Duración: 50minAre you ready for the holidays? If you're not yet, we're looking to get you into the spirit. Stephanie starts us off with a little lowdown on Krampus: a horned, anthropomorphic figure described as "half-goat, half-demon", who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Santa Claus, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. The origin of the figure is unclear. In traditional parades and in such events as the Krampuslauf (Krampus run), young men dressed as Krampus participate and such events occur annually in most Alpine towns. Keeping with the holiday theme of things that come in boxes, Sarah follows up with the godawful true story of Colleen Stan: the girl in the box. Cameron and Janice Hooker abducted Colleen in 1977 and held her captive for seven years. Listen to E32 Krampusnacht'd On Deez Nutz. Subscribe, rate, and review today! E31 Let's Hope We Don't Get Sued
14/12/2018 Duración: 01h05min“We’re going to find an incident in your life of which you have an exact record. Then by sending you through it at the time it happened we’re going to reduce it.” Through auditing, followers of the Church of Scientology believe they can discharge negative emotions from past experiences. You know Tom Cruise and John Travolta are famous members, but celebrities like Leah Remini have left the church and sought to out Scientology as a cult. Is it a church for rich weirdos or a cult preying on those that wish to better our planet? Find out more when you listen to this week’s episode. Listen to E31 Let’s Hope We Don’t Get Sued. E29 #We'reAllTired
29/11/2018 Duración: 38minWe all know what a crazy so n’ so Henry VIII was. Our first story tells of how Elizabeth I’s father created his own religion (the Church of England) in order to gain divorce power without needing the Catholic Church’s sanction. His second marriage was to Elizabeth’s mother, Anne Boleyn. Anne had quite a zany experience during her short reign as Henry’s wife, but left her mark before her execution at the Tower of London. Our second story is of Tarrare, a French showman with an absolutely insatiable appetite. Known to eat full meals for ten men or more, his condition, while never causing him to gain weight, shocked many. The government even tried to figure out a way to use his skills to their advantage. 27/09/2018 Duración: 47minWe made it to twenty episodes! We are so excited to announce the winner of our Instagram giveaway and to keep bringing you quality content. Thank you so much for sticking with us. Stephanie starts this week’s episode by bringing us back to her hometown of Wilmington, NC. Many places in the historic city are considered haunted. She gives us a mini tour of a few and tells of her own experiences there (none of them with ghosts). Sarah follows up with Locusta of Gaul, a notorious poison maker in the Roman Empire. Under Emperor Nero, she even taught her craft to young students. The legend of how she died is pretty rough. Luckily, it’s most likely not true. One of the previous owners is James Williams, who was the main character in the book/film Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. E18 Get Off My Jawn!
13/09/2018 Duración: 50minOur last two episodes were pretty intense, so this episode we decided to keep it a little lighter and bring it all back to Philly. Stephanie starts us off with the story of the Boy in the Box. In 1957, the body of an unidentified child was found in a JC Penny bassinet box in the woods of the Fox Chase neighborhood of Philadelphia. While the case has brought on sporadic media attention through the last six decades, it remains open to this day. Sarah tells us about the Hag of Pine Street. Possibly a ghost of one of our two hosts from the future who went back in time, she chases children and happy couples through the Society Hill neighborhood. Her only motivation seems to be to wipe the smiles off of their faces. Our stories are kept short while we butter you up with banter, spoilers about horror movies Sarah has never seen, and educate you with some Philadelphia culture. Listen to E18 Get Off My Jawn! E17 Moving Is Terrible, And So Is This Story
06/09/2018 Duración: 47minSarah adds her bid to our “Most Messed Up Story On Our Podcast” non-contest. (Stephanie still kinda thinks she won, but we’ll leave it up to the listeners.) She tells us about Gary Heidnik, a man who preyed upon the vulnerable, and imprisoned six women over the course of four months, killing two. He did pretty unspeakable things to them before he was caught. Supposedly one of the inspirations for the Buffalo Bill character from Silence of the Lambs, this very true story is a tough listen. Stephanie follows with a lighter act. Foregoing storytelling, she surprises Sarah with a soon-to-be-ex-roomies-but-still-podcast-partners tarot reading. Learn a little bit about the art of tarot reading and how it can be used to bring you insight on your future. Listen to E17 Moving Is Terrible, and So Is This Story.
